      Now, as for the thing about blacks paving the way for civil rights and other immigrants, that's a reasonable statement. But I don't see how that justifies giving blacks an unfair advantage over Asians today. The whole point of the civil rights movement was to eliminate discrimination by race, not perpetuate it with racist policies like AA.

      @@jackjohnson4386 He’s definitely mistaken, for several reasons. First, if this were truly about “merit,” then why are legacy admissions still allowed? Legacy preferences often benefit W applicants, not B ones, and don’t align with a pure merit-based system. Second, Asian applicants were not impacted by A.A. but rather by negative action, stemming from competition with W legacy students, not B students.
      Additionally, the B students reflected in these statistics are often immi-, benefiting from multiple admissions criteria-as immi-, legacies, and B under the modern label, but not directly impacted by sl- or J.C. laws. Notably, after A.A. was removed, Asian admissions actually dropped, further exposing that A.A. wasn’t the real factor limiting Asian enrollment; instead, it was negative action favoring legacy and other non-merit-based preferences...

That’s why the need for the program existed. The Black kids are top rank students that are exponential talent but because of skin color they were denied admission. Because Black students were not welcomed at PWI hence the need for affirmative action. The white & asian kids are subpar students in comparison to the top Black kids. You forgot about the college admissions scandal. Those were white wealthy kids buying admission into elite colleges. Wrong again. 71% of blacks admitted to Harvard are rich, so no huge roadblocks there Harvard doesn't like poor people, much less poor blacks. Among the "black" population at Harvard, a good portion aren't even American. They are African, and most likely come from very rich families, even by American standards. I'm talking like the son of the Nigerian prince or son of the Kenyan diplomat. They prefer black kids who come from wealthy, well off families from the professional class, like the Obama girls (who went to a very elite, prestigious private school in DC). Additionally, among the "black" students, a disproportionate number are actually biracial, so only one parent is black.
      Of course, a number of black students got in on their own merits, but the number would be substantially smaller without the affirmative action bump for race.

Yet, as a whole, East Asians in America are thriving. How would other schools admitting the brightest students "bite them in the behind?" It's when schools admit students who can't do the work and who also don't want to do the work that they suffer. No one is owed a university or college admission to anywhere. It must be earned.

    I have zero sympathy for students of any race who are not getting into colleges because their grades to not qualify them to attend. For decades both Whites and Asians had to deal with getting rejected from their college of choice with 3.75 or higher GPAs. If that was not bad enough it was even harder for both of those groups to qualify for any kind of financial aid or scholarship.
    I went to college in CA in the early-mid 1990s and I remember both Hispanic and Black students being shoe ins to the UC system if they had a 3.0 and sometimes they would get in with sub 3.0. Both of those groups also had scores of grants and scholarships available that were simply never awarded to White or Asian students.
    Stop belly aching about how "oppressed" you are when the reality is you have been more coddled and privileged than other "advantaged" groups.

    At least it won't be a topic of discussion anymore. My thing is that there are so many students that fight just as hard as any Ivey grad in China. Way more. Also in Taiwan, India and other pressure cooker places. India has way more people. If meritocracy really worked, are we not in the wrong country? Did the US become rich on merit?

    • @tyresebrinson8584
      @tyresebrinson8584 2 місяці тому +7

      You have it wrong. None of the Black kids are in those Ivy’s because they’re Black. Black kids were overlooked due to racism. Some of those schools did not admit minorities until the 70s. They were denied based on their performance not because a Black child was admitted. Black children have to be twice as good to be admitted. Being Black is not a prerequisite or a leg up.

    • @chrissyg55

      I'm glad the DEI dept is leaving. It's predominately white people. Black people never asked for DEI. Affirmative action was suppose to be for Black people Only, but everyone benefitted from it far more than Blacks, mainly White women. So, yes, a lot of Black people didn't care about Affirmative Action and won't miss it.

    It shouldn’t be about meeting a racial quota . It isn’t fair to allow students that didn’t hustle in high school to be admitted solely on race . In high schools , SAT and ACT is free for students to take it . Their high scores should be considered for admissions along with involvement in extracurricular activities. If these students aren’t hustling taking ap courses , they aren’t ready for the Ivy League universities. NBC is only focusing on Ivy League schools . If students want to go to college they can apply at universities other than Yale or MIT . Community colleges are also a great opportunity as well and less expensive.

    • @chrissyg55

      The students made the grade but was denied because of their race, they were trying to change that. It was never about accepting Black students who were not qualified just because they are Black. I'm glad Affirmative Action is gone, everyone benefitted more than Black people who it was meant for, White women were the highest benefactors of Affirmative Action. More Black people are attending HBCU's now and I'm thrilled. I hope they continue to attend and support HBCU's and watch how fast the tides change and the Government try to find a way to change the rules.
