The Rhino-Rack Backbone Mounting System for the Jeep Wrangler JL is an interior and exterior structure that utilizes exterior mounting castings, connected to an internal frame that mounts to the Wrangler roll bar and body tub. The Backbone Mounting System transfers the load from your roof rack through the hardtop and to the internal frame allowing you to carry up to 219 lbs of dynamic load (748 lbs static) on your Jeep Wrangler JL's roof! Had I known about this video, I would have likely installed my Rhino Rack myself instead of taking it to a shop to have the work done.
Are the platform racks interchangeable after installing the quick mounts/backbone system? That is, could you put the larger 84 inch (versus the 76 or 72inch) on the mounts without changing the placement of the mounts? I don't use my freedom panels and would prefer more real estate on top for overlanding.
My jeep is a 2023 Rubicon with One-touch-sky top. Will this Rhino-Rack backbone system fit to my jeep? Tks a lot
I saw the install for the Gladiator, but did not realize the Backbone System was available separately. @ 6:45 and @ 10:05 torque the nuts/screw to 3-4 ft/lbs for now. Perhaps the instructions have the final torque requirements. Wonder if Rhino-Rack recommends the use of thread-lock? Really liked the split screen to clearly show selected parts of the install. Thanks for sharing.
3-4 ft/lbs is the final torque requirement. No thread lock needed with the lock nuts provided.
Rhino racks video says remove hardtop. I am going to do it on the jeep🤞🏽
How hard is it to take this off if you want to ride topless?
Can you still remove the hard top after installing this? I love the system but would still like to run my soft top when I don’t need a rack or hard top.
Yes you can. Just have to pull out the long bolt that goes up through the roll bar when you remove the factory bolts to remove the top.
Who makes the rims on tge Jeep you used? Do they come in different colors?
