It is perfectly normal to pay more for an action movie actor if he is a men because he can sell the movie better therefore can make more money. Same thing with in a porn industry but there the women get payed more even if she working less. This is a business, first and foremost it has to make money.
She should have been paid more because she can act. But good looking girls who can be replaced by another one should be paid less. Like male models. Have you ever heard of male models bitching about low pay when in a movie with bruce willis? No. She should have been paid 10% of profits. You cant have alien without sigourney because she is weaker and cant manhandle alien (neither can men), so the dynamic of fear is applified by a woman lead who has to become a survivor and not a fighter. She only fights to save the little girl in alien 2 and its motherly. The alien franchise amplifies the female traits whilst keeping tense fear high in isolated space where no help is possible. Alien would not be good with a male lead (they would call him a bitch for not wrestling with it). Having the men gutted everywhere while the female survives is very clever. Sigourney was a perfect pick.

Alien can be good without Ripley or female lead, Terminator can be good without time traveling, Star Wars can be good without light saber, there is some franchise what can't exclude it's lead like Indiana Jones but in most cases it is just the usual narrow sighted suit mentality what makes people think everything has to be the same. In the case of alien nobody in the sane mind thinks men can fight against a xenomorf and win with bare hand.
