Speed Control Override Module (SCOM) Speed Test On A Personal Watercraft Jet Ski

- We installed the RIVA Racing speed control override module "SCOM" on our Sea Doo personal watercraft jet ski, and now we put it to the test. It lived up to its reputation for enhancing the maximum speed on Sea-Doo 300 HP machines, and performed great on our 2018 Sea-Doo RXP-X 300.

Does the scom override module work with a 2001 seadoo gtx?
I don’t think you’d see any benefit with that machine. Just in case, I suggest you contact the folks at Riva Racing directly. Good luck.
How much do they sell for? Nice video by the way👍🏽
Thanks. $200 US. Check out www.rivaracing.com
Have you been able ro run the SCOM and bilge pump together? If so, do you have a video or any information on how this is achieved? Thanks!
We haven’t done it yet, but there should be no problem. The SCOM is just “daisy chained”, so it shouldn’t create any problems.
Awesome 👍🏼 what mods did you have done I heard you have to replace impeller to gain higher speeds with riva scom I just bought one for my RXT X 260 could it gain a few mph without modification??? Thanks 👍🏼
No other mods done to get to the higher speed. The 260s also benefit, but I’ve heard that it’s only 2-3 mph more. You should contact RIVA directly to see what you can expect. Also, we’ve changed the impeller pitch on another machine with the limiters removed, but it caused other problems so although it can help to extract more power, there’s a lot of other fiddling that may need to be done to “re-balance” the machine. Good luck.
@@3ftDeepChannel thanks so it's best to just install scom and leave it and enjoy the 2-3 mph lol
That’s what I would do.
best $100 mod I ever made
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Are those haggis emojis?
Once again thanks for great videos..my question is, I have a 2021 seadoo gtx300 limited and I have installed the seadoo ski/x module on it but have herd rumors with that I can't run riva scom at same time. Do you know if this is true ?
Hmm, I'm not sure. I suggest you contact RIVA Racing to check.
My Yamaha goes about 70 tops, couldn’t even imagine going 100 holy shit!
Well, to be clear we are talking about reaching 77 mph or 123 kph with the SCOM. The stock 300 HP machines can normally reach (just shy of) 70 mph. Still, it's a bit horrifying when you hit choppy water at 77 mph. The biggest rush though is how quickly you can get to full speed on a 300 HP machine. Thanks for your comment.
I’ve reached 75 on my stock RXPX 300. Is it still worth it to buy the governor remover?
That's a tough question to answer. It depends what you really need. My machine is like yours in the way it can occasionally "cheat" the speed limiter (although I don't know how), but most of the time it can't (you'll hear the revs drop when the speed gets too high). This prevents the revs from dropping to reduce the speed, so it can consistently get above 69 mph, which is supposed to be the limit of those machines. Your call.
But is it necessary ? The engine and everything are built for stock speed by engineers, you are changing speed limit, it might decrease engine lifespan and cause engine malfunction.
Remember, we’re not changing the rev limiter. As long as you don’t exceed the maximum revs as set by the factory, increasing the speed makes no difference to the machine (ok, maybe a bit of extra stress on the hull, but it’s designed to handle waves, speed, etc.).
@@3ftDeepChannel that is correct. Not changing the rev limiter or any internals. Mine will hit 8050 rpm and 76mph. I do not feel I am doing any damage to this 300hp motor. The only reason it limits to 68mph is because the coast guard made a “gentleman’s agreement” with the manuafacturers. That’s why anyone that tells you that their Yamaha or Kawi is doing 81mph right out of the box is full of it
Are they hard to install?
Very easy.
Hello I have the '14 Kawi Ultra 310x will this hook up to mine easily??. I'm confused you said it doesn't raise the RPMs but goes faster. If you go faster the RPMs must raise don't they?
It looks like they make one for your machine (see rivaracing.com/riva-kawasaki-ultra-310300-speed-control-override-module-rk11110-scom.html). There are actually 2 limiters on a Sea-Doo (not sure about Kawasakis). One limits the revs, the other the speed. In good conditions, it is possible for a machine to approach the limited speed before hitting the maximum revs. The speed limiter will kick in and lower the revs, even though the maximum revs have not been achieved. This can make a few mph difference in some machines. Good luck.
@@3ftDeepChannel Okay great thanks for the info will do some research. I know Kawi had some early model piston issues with the 310 I don't want to raise the RPMs or stress this out too much I'll have to look into it and go from there 👍
@@3ftDeepChannel It's also no fun raising the speed and not watching a speedometer go higher because it's limited at 68 on the Kawasaki.. If I'm doing 73 I want to "see it", ha....
@@3ftDeepChannel Just talked to them, for mine I can get 4 more miles an hour and not raise the RPM one bit, it just blocks the GPS from limiting the top speed and right up my alley thanks for the video👍👍
You’ll definitely see the speed increase, not to worry. You just won’t be able to stress your engine beyond what it was built for.
Does this eliminate engine warranty or not because all it is doing is getting rid of the governor
Good question. I agree with you, but you never know what the dealer will say.
@@3ftDeepChannel
Is anything else needed besides scom to get these speed levels
Of course it does, bud.
@@Sour75 checked with dealer and they have no problem with it
I have a 2020 gtx 170, you think it will work on mine to give me more speed and power??
I don't think they make one for your machine, which suggests it won't work on your machine. I suggest you contact RIVA Racing and asking them directly. Good luck.
Only 300s have a limiter that the SCOM removews... 230 and lower top out below 70mph max speed.... the 170 isnt getting anywhere close to that.
Most of the models have limiters, but you’re right some don’t reach the speeds that make it worthwhile. If in doubt contact the manufacturer to see if it’ll work for your machine.
can this go on a 2009 yamaha vx?
I don’t think so. There’s one for Sea-Doo and Kawasaki, but I don’t see one for Yamahas. I suggest you contact RIVA Racing and ask them. Good luck.
Does this void my warranty? Lol
Actually, it may. It depends what you make a warranty claim for.
work with yamaha
...whatever that means?!
$200 for 6.5 mph is kinda steep
Not when you consider that you’ve paid >$18,000 for 69 mph. 😁
@@3ftDeepChannel but is there a noticeable difference between 69 and 77mph?
Yes, for sure. Especially if you hit some chop!
@@3ftDeepChannel Where you in normal or sport mode?
3ftDeep I have the same one but yellow and I hit 74 and it’s stock
