Something to note: Not every tip will resonate with everyone. This is more of a broad strokes video covering the whole category of Fantasy inspired fashion so obviously you can customize this to your liking. Take what resonates and leave the rest. Just because you wouldn’t wear it, doesn’t mean someone else won’t love it. Also: this isn’t reserved for men but anyone who dresses more masculine. If you’re somewhere in-between, check out the video I made before if you haven’t already seen it. You might be able to merge tips and ideas.
I'm actually super glad you did this one, dresses are nice and all but I'm definitely more of the Finn Ryder dashing rogue type. my pinterest board is full of silk blouses, waist cincher and nice slacks in knee high boot combos
Could be interesting to see you style your husband (maybe with accessories that you would still wear if he hates them) and maybe in comparison either how you'd do a similar thing in a more feminine way, or just the more masculine end of your own style.
Yeah that’s a good idea. I think I might shop for both of us and style outfits for us both (but make sure to showcase him equally or more) - and finding accessories we can both utilize 👌
Thank you for this! I’m a trans masc person and really appreciate the fantasy masc inspiration! If it’s okay, I have a tip for altering women’s plus size shirts and waistcoats if you’re some with a flat chest or some who binds: Most plus size women’s tops include extra fabric around the chest to accommodate larger busts, which you may want to remove for a more tailored look. I personally like to look for items with vertical darts or “princess” seams, as they tend to be easier to remove excess fabric from. Horizontal side darts, on the other hand, are harder to alter and can sit awkwardly on flatter chests. Alternatively, tops made from stretch/knit fabrics don’t typically have this issue, so sweater vests and knitwear can be good options if tailoring seems intimidating.
Layers! I have been telling my husband, my sons, my sons friends, who come to me to dress them up all the time! (If they come into my house I am sizing them up like big dress up dolls.) I have taken several to the thrift store and STRAIGHT into the women's section every time for first outfits.
Im non-binary and I love this video. Im struggling to find a style that fits me. And this looks awesome. I will also share this with my husband. He loves out of the box masculine fashion and fantasy. I think it will also be berfect for him.
I would definitely watch you thrift for hubby some inspiring pieces. Then, how to get my hubby to perhaps wear some of this stuff instead of tshirts and shorts. Lol 😂
I tend to dress more feminine whimsical, but I love seeing as more masculine approach, too! On a separate note, I stopped and went back real fast around 5:46 because my brain was like "I KNOW THIS! AND I NEED TO IDENTIFY IT NOW!!" I love that song 😆
I feel like steampunk is also an area of fantasy fashion that I see more masculine fashion in. Just like, top hats and cravats, goggles and outlandish gadgetry. I mean, I guess steampunk is sometimes viewed as scifi but it seems largely fantasy to me idk For medieval fantasy, I think the right kind of belts (like ring belts) and belt pouches can go a long way. A keyhole neckline (esp. with trim or embroidered details) or a pirate shirt are also gonna immediately give fantasy vibes. I'm not sure why, but I also get fantasy from fingerless gloves? And drapey hoods and other outerwear.
Oh yeah there’s definitely a lot of cross over with the different categories, including steampunk and sci-fi. I think steampunk is the most approachable of the aesthetics because there’s a lot more examples for masculine styles. And all good additions! Hooded cardigans with the drapey lapel are always a mood, a good casual alternative to a cloak 🙌
I have been seeing these more masculine creators on pinterest and UA-cam and they are just stunning in the way they style. I wish i could get my partner to try something like that out. But he's a cargo shorts and graphic tee boy till the end. I'll just have to be the wizard I want to see in the world myself.
yes!!! i'm hugely here for your ideas for borrowing your husband for a video. i'm exactly the guy you're marketing to with this one (lol) so i can guarantee you i'd probably watch that video quite a few times.
I'd recommend to look at Larpers outfits, for example photos and videos from the both biggest events (Conquest of Mythodea and Drachenfest). The historical range goes from caveman to victorian (=often steampunk inspired) and every time period and fantasy genre in between of course. On the arriving days, before the games begin, there are many people with an eclectic look of jeans and t-shirts, but with cloaks, belt bags, funky hats etc. One thing I also love is doing historical silhouette but with modern fabrics/patterns and vice versa.
Great advice. I've found a few great quality vintage wool capes and cloaks in the womens section of the thrift store that folks of any gender could rock.
My boyfriend is going to love this video, he has been struggling to curate his wardrobe but he wants to have a lot of these elements. This guide is also just practical for how to put together any outfit (advice on layering, sourcing items, finding inspo, accessorizing). Thank you for this!
Really enjoyed this, and glad that you pointed out shopping in the women's section! I would love to see a video where you find examples of masculine fantasy outfits 💜
I've been meaning to go hunting for some good cargo pants for literal years, and this might push me over into doing it. Though I'll definitely have more luck in the masc section for those - I'm hoping that they'll eventually be coming back into style for femmes as well. A big accessory I tend to go for, especially as it gets colder, is a scarf - there are SO MANY different options, and if you're feeling alt and you have one long enough you can use it in lieu of a belt. I definitely want to keep an eye out for good brown leather boots - I've been halfassedly looking on the marketplace, but I'm going to get more serious about it. Thanks for this video! It's sparking ideas lol
The Hair Forge!! (A Wisconsin business that had items included in a swag bag for the Grammys). They have beautiful, masculine hair accessories for men's long hair (and women's too of course).
I took two of my male friends thrifting to find things for our first renfaire this past summer, and we found the most perfect top, which was actually a nightgown, in the womens section!
I love the concept and am thankful for all the broad-strokes advice, but is there any chance you could provide some more examples, inspiration, or just plain more information on how to fit this to a body that is constructed in a broader/more masculine shape? It seems like all I can find is inspiration on thin, waif-ish frames that are much closer to androgynous/feminine builds than my own build. While I know a lot of the same basic principles apply, (like layering, and varying fabric textures) what works well on those body types is very rarely what works for someone who is broad-shouldered, barrel-chested, and generally stocky in build like me (regardless of weight, even). And honestly, I have no idea what I'm doing, nobody ever taught me the first thing about style and I don't have a natural talent for it
more male oriented content please! men dont show an interest because there isn't an outlet for them to get interested in it. but if make it they will come.
Will be trying to implement more! Gonna do a dedicated video for whimsigoth soon and will include a section for masc since masculine whimsigoth slays ✨💜🧙♂️
It’s from Knock Thrice, it’s the Harvest Witch in the cropped length. I have Knock Thrice linked in the description since they have a lot of cool unique items!
Hey, if you see this, you better get your measurements and look for that dress form you’ve been wanting for the past 2 years. Yeah, I know you’re in this situation. You can’t hide it. Come on. 😡😡😡😡😡

And remember hats! Never underestimate the power of a good hat :)
Oh yes!
Yes! I love it when my husband dons a good hat!!
I'm actually super glad you did this one, dresses are nice and all but I'm definitely more of the Finn Ryder dashing rogue type. my pinterest board is full of silk blouses, waist cincher and nice slacks in knee high boot combos
I love this! Even though I’ve got a feminine body, I like styling more masculine-looking outfits sometimes and this gave me so many cool ideas :)
Yay! I’m glad this gave you some inspo! ❤️

I would LOVE to see a style guide like this for people like me. Bearded bigger guy who loves fantasy and the like.
Thank you for this! I’m a trans masc person and really appreciate the fantasy masc inspiration!

I would definitely watch you thrift for hubby some inspiring pieces. Then, how to get my hubby to perhaps wear some of this stuff instead of tshirts and shorts. Lol 😂

I'm a crossdresser so funnily enough I never thought about this lack of info but this makes me wanna try more masc fantasy outfits!
It’s definitely fun to try different silhouettes and styles 😁 hope this gives you some ideas!
Great advice. I've found a few great quality vintage wool capes and cloaks in the womens section of the thrift store that folks of any gender could rock.
Yes! Capes and cloaks are so cool! 💜
There is such a lack of mass outfit inspos that are interesting, so thank you so much for making this video!
