I love everything about this song, it brings me right back to being a kid in the early 80s. However, as absolutely amazing and intricately crafted the music is, nothing for me is more impactful than Michael's vocals especially the harmonies during the verse. It's like hearing magic.
The greatest pop song of alltime imo. Remember hearing it for the first time. I bought it and wore it out. And bought it again. That bassline and production. Unmatched. And the music video. Then came the Motown 25th performance. And it was game over.
In my personal opinion I consider this a perfect album, from the mix, to the arrangements, there's no mistake or anything out of place in this album. I remember watching the videoclip for the first time and it totally blew my mind. Cheers!
THANK YOU! and please do a tutorial on how you mix the drums! or a general tutorial on how you process drum machines. i cant seem to get them right and tried already everything...
What is my fave part of Billie Jean? The last one, where it gets dramatic & everything comes together: the guitar, string hits and so on... Happy Holidays, Giovanni!
Please excuse this correction but the LinnDrumm was not used for for Billie Jean, Quincy and Michael used the LM-1 Linn Drum Computer. Listen closely, it's even used originally in the demo in a more pronounced raw drum track. In the final mixes they refined it, produced it more precise, almost to hide it, for the album. Quincy tuned up the LM-1 CLAP up high pitched and tight for the main chorus. Similarly in 1982's Donna Summer's Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger) he also pitch tuned up high the clap.
Hey, thank you so much for this amazing piece of information. I wanted to use the Linndrum to exemplify the song and actually I will make a comparison using the LM-1 vs the Linndrum using the same track. Cheers!
@ Cool! Thank you for not taking it the wrong way. I appreciate that and I really enjoy your videos. They’re very well done and are wonderful explorations like you name your channel. They’re going into these wonderful machines. Thank you for all your videos and your hard work!😎👍
@@Modernaire Absolutely! I truly appreciate any additional insights or constructive comments-it’s what makes this channel such a great space for learning and sharing. Thank you so much for your kind words! These videos do take a lot of time to create, but it’s a passion of mine. I've always loved how the hats pump and, you have nailed this really well! Is it just the Cabasa giving it a pumping sound or, did you get the pumping from a compressor? Thanks for posting; a very interesting video..
Thank you so much for watching and the support! There’s no compression on the Cabasa; it sounds that way because it features lower and higher volume buttons designed to emulate the dynamics of a real Cabasa.
Billie Jean by Michael Jackson and Get Into The Groove by Madonna are my two favorite electronic pop basslines. This video, as well as your others are great! Thank you for making them. Question... So all of the drums in this video are Linndrum?
Hey! Thank you so much for the support and the kind words. All the drums on the video I made are indeed the LinnDrum, the original track was recorded with the live drums and LM-1 which I will make a video about it so hear the difference between one machine and the other. Cheers and Happy Holidays!
