    I was having issues with my 2024 300 xcw running too rich. It sputtered badly at very low rpm and thats where i ride it a lot in the tight woods. Dealers are clueless on his to remedy it. I bought the TPS tool, reduced the voltage and it helped a great deal. I ended up going with Two Stroke Performence medium comp head. Havent ridden it yet.

    Good advice on cold starts. I built a 23 300SX last season and your guidance on cold starts is spot on. Also thanks for showing tps settings using common tools. 🤟🏼

    FYI, setting the TPS correctly will also stop your bike from having the shut-off backfire issue as well. And, when the TPS is set up correctly like this the bike runs so much better overall, it doesn't just idle better it runs much better. Enjoy!

    These 300s are the coolest! The end of this video is really valuable thank you. Im sure glad i changed the oil after only 1 day of riding the bike doing break in procedures approx 1.5 hrs on the clock. The oil coming out of the bike wasnt nearly as thick as the top speed T4 I replaced it with. Chomping at the bit to go take it back out again and see how she runs.

    Simple and effective thanks! For me I found if I keep more heat in the pipe I don’t file plugs. Just add a little more braaap more often and no more fouling.

    I was fouling plugs early on. Dealer changed tos under warranty. Its been fine until lately. I just adjusted mine. It was at .368 volts adjusted it and took it for a ride. Once it cleaned out it seems to run way better!

    I picked up a tps dongle (model 3) off of amazon ($36) and was able to hook my meter to it easily. Used the ktm wake up dongle to get the voltage readings. Brand new 23 250 XC from the factory it showed .671 before making any changes or zeroing out the idle screws.

  • @johns3557
    @johns3557 10 місяців тому +5

    Pull the seat and plug in the dongle, the ECU will stay powered up and you won't have to constantly bump the estart to read the TPS voltage. Doing this does run the hour meter so don't forget to unplug it when done.
    I have the 250XC version of your bike. Waayy to much spooge and inconsistent running. At times it would bog or miss when giving it throttle, other times it would run normally. I'm using the KTM recommended Motorex Cross Power oil at 60:1. Installed an RK Tech head and the running issues are gone - but the spooge issue remained. It was getting all over the swing arm, brake caliper, rear wheel and the inside of the rear fender, just a mess. It has never fouled a plug. Two days ago I set the TPS at 0.34 volts and doing that has cleaned up the part throttle running and hopefully the spooge will be much reduced. The bike has the latest map update from KTM, which didn't seem to make much difference in how it runs. KTM needs to address the fueling issues on these models. We shouldn't have to resort to an aftermarket ECU tune to have them run properly.

      I have been dealing with this for a year with my 23 250xc. I'm desperate to get it resolved after hundreds in diagnostics and updates. At about 10 hours, found cylinder scored up, new top end, runs good for about 30 minutes after adaptive reset/calibration. Then it's back to sputtering and spooge everywhere.
      Have no good idea how the cylinder was damaged, suspect getting on the pipe to soon, but I was always careful so who knows..

    Used to clock the TPS to richen up things a smidge on bike like the 500 exc, made it run much better as it was to lean, especially after yanking out the screen that was on the end cap of the stock exhaust.

    Hey thanks for the great info. 23 300 xc is very finicky and wants to foul cold. Getting rid of a screen sparky and going to a Spanish Fly helped immensely, but after last wash fouled before I could get if fired off. Cold start engaged. Plug looked like it was dipped in Le Brea Tar pits. Checked the TPS voltage using safety pins with electrical tape on them to prevent shorting, everything backed off dead nuts on at .4000. Dialed in red idle to .5000. Yellow cold start was .68 so hoping that's been my issue. Dialed it back to .60 we'll see for tomorrow. Running Motorex at roughly 55:1

    Good advice on warm ups, a buddy of mine with his TPI 300 would fire his up and give it a couple quick revs and take off wide open thru a few gears till it ran clean. I was surprised he got 70 hrs on it before it started running badly, scuffed the piston and cylinder pretty bad, a Nikasil job on the cylinder and new piston to get it going again.

    Update and something to put in your data base!!! I made mention on thr live cast yesterday about my bike now fouling plugs! The only thing that has changed is i let a friend ride my bike at the track and he adjusted my throttle cables because he thought it had to much slack for his liking.. so apparently for anyone adjusting the slack could probably potentially throw this settings off.. so for everyone who is fouling a plug one of the first questions to ask is did you adust the slack in your thotttle. Just reporting back bud 👍👍👍👍

      @highlandcycles after going through this process and looking to check cable tension ect I have a brand new theory. This one is not yet tested but makes the most sense. Last year, during the colder weather when I first got the bike I was running the recommended pre mix (cross power) at 60:1. Middle of the summer I had a friend introduce and suggest his favorite oil Klotz R50. This oil seemed just fine at 50:1 all summer long in warmer temperatures. But now fouls plugs on warm up process after looking deeper in the flash point on R50 is 550 degrees 😳 a little over double that of Cross Power 212 degrees I believe. Anyway this makes the most sense and I am going back to this or a oil of equal flash point values. Don't mean to pester you with this and I don't see how you take the time to respond to so much.. But this should be the first question asked when someone is constantly fouling plugs suddenly especially on these FI 2 smokers💨 in the colder weather

      @@highlandcycles cool. I’m in a troubleshooting worm hole and ran across the instructions. My 2023 300xc with 35hr has decided to start cutting out, last week on a big double jump..not good. Ive done the tps, powervalves reset, changed fuel filter AND pump filter. Also changed ccps and it has obviously been leaking ever so slightly where it seals at the bracket it pushes into. The foam sticker seal is melted in one spot and there is a clean path where fumes has pushed out. Also, when i pulled my fuel pump the old filter was kinda black and the heat shrink around the wire just fell off, its been dissolving in the gas i guess. Weird. • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  3 місяці тому +1

      @@brunoantunes2430 yeah that’s true. The .4v is when everything is closed. Idle screw all the way out, slack in throttle cables. It’s when the butterfly is all the way closed so it won’t run like that. Then you turn the idle up til it will idle and that sounds like about the right voltage for that. The .4 is the base setting

    Thanks for the video! Question: even though the bike is running rich due to temperature wouldn’t opening the throttle with the cold start add more fuel (plus air)? I’m guessing the idea is to get to temperature faster to prevent fouling plugs? I have fouled plugs using the cold start button on my 2024 TX300. However, I just got the latest update from KTM and the dealer also adjusted my TPS. I’m riding next weekend at Hatfield, hopefully she rips and doesn’t foul a plug during warmup !
