Unless you want to suggest that the AP rankings are completely useless across the entire season (I wouldn't necessarily disagree), those are all still top 25 wins. As for Georgia Tech and BC, their own websites show those games as Georgia Tech vs #10 Florida State and Boston College @ #10 Florida State, respectively, so yeah, they're BOTH claiming Top 10 wins, as they damn well should. Ohio State would NEVER do such a thing. No, their loss at #1 Oregon still shows as a loss at #3 Oregon. Their win at #7 (sticking with the AP) Penn State still shows as Ohio State at #3 Penn State.
4 was inferior when you have 5 power conferences, independents and group of 5 teams in FBS. 8 or 12 wouldn’t eliminate controversy but give teams that perform well a shot no matter what their regular season schedule was.
@@doncoroleone7815 Yeah but how is SOS actually measured in todays age? Like whats the actual calculation? BYU has played more and higher ranked opponents to date; BYU's opponents have gone 34-38, Miami's opponents have gone 38-39. If you take FCS teams out of their schedules BYU's opponents have gone 32-31, and Miami's have gone 33-36. How is Miami's schedule tougher? And how in the world is 17 spots difference harder to justify the SOS rank? We use this metric all the time, but imo NOBODY even knows what it actually measures anymore......

No one with actual power to make changes want to build an actually fair system. The colleges with name recognized programs would rather have cupcake schedules, power conferences would rather not have to play outside of their conferences, and no one wants a division structure that puts them on the outside looking in because it would hurt recruiting. So this controversy will always happen.

Notre Dame plays absolutely no one and doesn't deserve to be anywhere close to the top 12. Beating up on navy and Purdue does not make you a good team!
Indiana hasn’t played a single top 25 team. They’ve played two 5-4 teams. The rest are below.500. We’ll know if they are legit in 2 weeks when they play OSU. Honestly being ranked #8 is generous.
We are so tired of hearing that same old SEC talk there are other conferences. It’s sad, discrediting other conferences for SEC teams that have losses.
college football the only sport that can allow someone with a worse record, to be in front of a team with a better “but its all about acc vs sec vs big 12” make it make sense, pitt got slapped by smu but they’re still in the top whatever tf
I think we all just have to decide do we want the best teams or is record important. I think winning games shouldn't qualify you to be one of the best teams the same way losing shouldn't disqualify you. I want the best teams not who can stay undefeated longest
They should have done the major conference champions, top two minor conference champions, and top six remaining teams for wild cards. No one should be whining about not getting in unless they're undefeated.
Notre Dame over SMU is crazy. Losing to Northern Illinois should disqualify them from the 12-team playoff. SMU lost to a top-10 team in the committee's eyes by a field goal. The brand over the resume is crazy.
u mean bama over smu 2 loss teams should not be unloess no other 1 loss teams. wheres undefeated army ??? a 1 loss army who is confrence champ should be in over 2 loss bama

UT has three top 25 wins as they were played. NC state, OU, BAMA. do not care where they are right now. If you can only play the teams in front of you , then those should count as top 25 wins.
At the end of the season, the rankings will basically only matter for spots 5 through 12. Since Miami just lost and with their schedule, they will potentially have to win the ACC title game to get in. Same thing with SMU. SMU doesn't have the respect to get in without winning their conference title game, especially with the close loss to BYU. I would say that Indiana has to win out and even if it looses the Big Ten title game, Indiana would still get in at 12 - 1, as the cinderella team. We might see a few levels of favoritism with one or two 2 loss teams getting in when a 1 loss team feels like they were left. But, the only way to guarantee your ticket is winning your conference title game of the 4 conferences.
Finally someone speaking the truth about Indiana. If they had all white helmets, Buckeye helmets, or crimson helmets with a number on the side, or an SEC team period……..they’d be #1 or #2
What if byu wins out, then plays Iowa state in big 12 championship and Iowa state wins by a field goal.. byu and Iowa state are both 13-1 … but you’re telling me only one big 12 team gets to go? But likely 3 or even 4 SEC teams? Wild
The problem is last year, Georgia and Michigan were both over 100 in SOS at the first rankings and were ranked 2 and 3. They change the rules based on which team they’re judging
I disagree. If you have four teams worthy, so be it. B10, if predictions hold true, will have a 12-0 Oregon, and three 11-1 teams. OSU only loss is to number 1 on road by 1 point, IU only loss will be on the road to number 2 , PSU only loss is to number 2 by 1 score. Hard to say those three 11-1 teams are not among the best 11 (not counting group of 5 team) in nation.
People need to chill. This taking will look nothing like this by the end of the season. Like Texas or Georgia will not be ranked as high by the end same with Tennessee.
Ind v tOSU is very important. If they win, they are in. If they lose, it depends. Did they look competitive or was it a blowout? If it was a blowout, they aren't in, even with 1 loss.

Tennessee beat #24, #15 and #7. Those are all Top 25 wins.
The real joke is at the bottom of the CFP 25. Missouri ranked ahead of Army (or even ranked at all) is pure comedy.
Dude you gotta throw out the random preseason rankings 😅 clearly Nc State and Oklahoma are not nearly top 25 teams. Imagine Georgia Tech or BC claiming FSU as a top ten win this year
@buckeyefan3894 week 4 (#15 Oklahoma) and week 7 (#7 Alabama) are hardly pre-season rankings.
How/when is SOS determined? They threw #1 next to GA, but UF had #1 SOS going into the season
They're going by SOS of the games already played, which has UGA at #1 and Florida #8. The SOS for the remaining games has Florida at #1 and UGA at #5.
Makes sense, thanks!
@@doncoroleone7815 Yeah but how is SOS actually measured in todays age? Like whats the actual calculation? Cuz it comes off as complete candyland pixie magic fairy dust for how what that ranking actually means.
Like per ESPN SOS, BYU ranks #63 and Miami ranks #46. Ok - how does this make sense? BYU has played more and higher ranked opponents to date; BYU's opponents have gone 34-38, Miami's opponents have gone 38-39. If you take FCS teams out of their schedules BYU's opponents have gone 32-31, and Miami's have gone 33-36. How is Miami's schedule tougher? And how in the world is 17 spots difference harder to justify the SOS rank?
We use this metric all the time, but imo NOBODY even knows what it actually measures anymore......
@@MattBuild4 No one that makes models are particularly transparent about their contents. Regarding your stipulation about relative/comperable wins and losses: SoS via any model applies a massive cluster of data beyond baseline opponent win/loss and number of ranked wins.
@@EulogyfortheAngels If this metric is going to be used as a criteria for selection of teams then these people better figure it the f*ck out......
Any calculation that isnt crystal clear can f*ck all the way out of being considered a legitimate tool for selection.
Literally no other sport in the world has the problems of FBS DIvision 1 college fotoball for selection of teams, and its in large part because they actually have legitimate, consistent and easy to understand metrics for selection.
Failure to provide the necessary transparency leads me to believe the metric is complete total bs used entirely for the purpose of ensuring increased favorability of larger market teams for selection. This is a problem - you wanna run this sport as a business - this practice is legally speaking anti-competitive behavior and fraud. And considering that this particular league has been sued twice in the last 25 years FEDERALLY and CRIMINALLY for these kinds of violations that does not inspire confidence in the system.
Byu beat smu in Dallas. What if byu wins until losing in big 12 championship game? They'd have only 1 loss with at least 2 top 20 wins.
Who cares? I'd so much rather argue about the 13th best team in football than the 5th. You can always say "should've done more" to the 13th team, you can't say that about undefeated 5ths. This format is better no matter what
Strength of schedule can really only be determined at the end of the year at least towards it
Partially yes, partially no. Collective team talent and performance function as indicators throughout a season.
Yes! And they need to be transparent with how they get the data. Rankings and ranked at time is meaningless!
Indiana has a chance to prove themselves when they play Ohio State.
No one asked for it but here we go!
My top 25:
1) Oregon (9-0)
2) Miami (9-0)
3) Ohio State (7-1)
4) Georgia (7-1)
5) BYU (8-0)
6) Indiana (9-0)
7) Penn State (7-1)
8) Texas (7-1)
9) SMU (8-1)
10) Tennessee (7-1)
11) Notre Dame (7-1)
12) Boise State (7-1)
13) Iowa State (7-1)
14) Pittsburgh (7-1)
15) Alabama (6-2)
16) Army (8-0)
17) Washington State (7-1)
18) Kansas State (7-2)
19) Colorado (6-2)
20) Texas A&M (7-2)
21) LSU (6-2)
22) Ole Miss (7-2)
23) Arizona State (6-2)
24) Louisville (6-3)
25) Clemson (6-2)
Damn, there’s only one team in that entire top 12 with a strength of schedule ranked in the top 10.
S/o pat for pronouncing Louisville the right way ! 5:06
on the eye test for college rankings, USC Gamecockd should be up there, they would beat the crap out of 12 of those teams with a freshmen QB.
Indiana has not played anyone stop it Tone
They're about to hit the strongest part of their schedule. We'll find out really soon if they're legit or not.
Georgia had a 108 sos last year at 8-0 and was treated better.
They’re getting their shot with OSU and possibly Oregon. It’s early yet.
Just like basketball there should be ONE show after the regular season is done to avoid recency bias. If Oregon loses a pair of close games are they ranked higher than Bama? Probably, because Bama has to climb the standings that are now set several weeks before the end of the season.
It seems a little early in the season for this conversation....but it's fun to talk about. 😊
The biggest problem about the college playoffs will always be the selection committee and the fans. They will always agree to disagree.
Suits on ESPN just get on TV and talk like Kamala we don't understand them we had to turn it to Pat 😅🥂 Dude always keep this show going. We need you dawg! Peace! 💪🙏👑💯
Look at Wazzou Kansas state UNLV and Iowa State's schedule and cross reference and you will notice Wazzou and UNLV did better against common opponents and both deserve rankings higher than the two big 12 teams. No arguments accepted. LOOK AT THE SCHEDULES AND CROSS REFERENCE.
They could put the whole top 25 in the playoffs and people would be complaining about number 26 not getting in
No matter what controversy will always be created. No matter what the media will push that controversy. Controversy sells
Notre Dame plays absolutely no one and doesn't deserve to be anywhere close to the top 12. Beating up on navy and Purdue does not make you a good team!
Navy was ranked when they played, beat A&M on the road, and beat a ranked Louisville team. Who has Indiana, Penn State, and BYU beat
As an ND can I really wanna play Miami. So whatever needs to happen for that bracket needs to happen.
“If you win, you’re in this thing” yeah BYU has no room for error while ND and other overrated teams can lose to NIU and still have a shot. Rigged.
Indiana hasn’t played a single top 25 team. They’ve played two 5-4 teams. The rest are below.500. We’ll know if they are legit in 2 weeks when they play OSU. Honestly being ranked #8 is generous.
Very
We are so tired of hearing that same old SEC talk there are other conferences. It’s sad, discrediting other conferences for SEC teams that have losses.
Mich and georgia had similar SOS last yrv and they were 2 and 3. IU coming for OSU
And fsu michigan was 50th fsu was 56th…
college football the only sport that can allow someone with a worse record, to be in front of a team with a better “but its all about acc vs sec vs big 12” make it make sense, pitt got slapped by smu but they’re still in the top whatever tf
These are meaningless and will change significantly over the next few weeks.
@1:25 absolutely not 😂😂😂
I think we all just have to decide do we want the best teams or is record important. I think winning games shouldn't qualify you to be one of the best teams the same way losing shouldn't disqualify you. I want the best teams not who can stay undefeated longest
Wow these rankings are a joke. For one why the hell is Colorado in the top 20…
Get rid of committees!!-Mike Leach
IT'S NOT THE FINAL RANKING
CALM THE EFF DOWN
Over half the players drafted in the NFL are from the SEC, it’s not bias, they have better players and competition.
They should have done the major conference champions, top two minor conference champions, and top six remaining teams for wild cards. No one should be whining about not getting in unless they're undefeated.
There will be a ‘who’s in, who’s out’ controversy until EVERY team is included.
There was always gonna be more to talk about with 12 teams.
South Carolina had a crazy hard schedule and could honestly take out half these teams
But they didn’t so shut up😂
@@OSU2010you're weird bro
College football is so disorganized that it's frustrating. Teams get screwed every single year.
Personally I love the disorganization and chaos! Makes it a lot more fun for the fans
I don't understand why preseason matters. Teams haven't even PLAYED GAMES.
ND beat Texas A&M (14) and Louisville (22) that would beat SMU. Who did you SMU beat? Pitt is ass and you guys lost to BYU and played close against Duke. Why are you complaining about ND when Alabama has 2 loss and ahead of SMU 🤡
Pitts with have 2 more Ls by the end of the year.
UT has three top 25 wins as they were played. NC state, OU, BAMA. do not care where they are right now. If you can only play the teams in front of you , then those should count as top 25 wins.
Expanding the playoff is pointless if you are just going to increase the amount of AQ's that you get. just saying.
These idiots aren’t watching the games!! That’s the whole problem!
Wazoo is the biggest dark horse with a legit shot who doesn’t have to play a conference championship
Should be 24 total teams with 12 teams divided into 2 brackets or 4 teams divided into 6 brackets.
Easy to pass the eye test when the other boxer never throws a punch.
@pat McAfee if Oregon runs out along with boise state and army do 2 group of 5 schools deserve a seat at the playoff table?
Worst season yet. High school ball but with salaried players.
As long as no undefeated team gets left out of the playoffs this year, I'll feel better about this model.
I’m from Indianan Louisville level I am shocked at how we have been doing
7 out of the 9 teams iu has played have losing records. The two with winning records are 5-4.
Indiana hasn’t played a team with fewer than 4 losses. Play Ohio State close and it will change. An “initial” ranking is rather meaningless.
If initial rankings were meaningless then it really doesnt make any sense for Penn State to be ranked above this team.....
Finally someone speaking the truth about Indiana. If they had all white helmets, Buckeye helmets, or crimson helmets with a number on the side, or an SEC team period……..they’d be #1 or #2
Lets be honest ,,, Indiana hasn’t played a team near as good as Vanderbilt
THIS is what you think people are upset about!? thats the problem right there
S.O.S for Indiana is bad, if every one else had IU’s schedule they’d also have the same result. Therefore you get penalized
I can't believe the love for Penn State. Who have they played? They would have 3 losses if they played in the SEC.
What if byu wins out, then plays Iowa state in big 12 championship and Iowa state wins by a field goal.. byu and Iowa state are both 13-1 … but you’re telling me only one big 12 team gets to go? But likely 3 or even 4 SEC teams? Wild
If IU were Bama with the same resume, they would be a unanimous #1.
Had they beat GA, Vandy, and Tenn they would be #1.
Resume? IU has played two teams with a winning record(both 5-4).
The problem is last year, Georgia and Michigan were both over 100 in SOS at the first rankings and were ranked 2 and 3. They change the rules based on which team they’re judging
My only issue or concern is that no conference should get 4 teams in. 3 is a good cap.
@@scottbowden963 Don't lose multiple games and don't lose to Vandy.
The top 6 sec teams are better than byu
The conferences are not equal
But why? Clarify.
If Indiana beats Ohio state than that will speak highly for itself
Funny how many people haven’t watched Indiana but still takes the time to tell you they haven’t played anyone.
America loves to hear local Indianapolis sports takes
How is Colorado in the talk over Iowa state? Iowa state is ranked higher in the big 12 and only has one lose right now.
I hope America knows how special Haynes King is at GT. He is what college football is all about! Go Jackets!
