cadsux Same engine. Juke had better suspension, and awd has torque vectoring and a full independent rear suspension. Buy the Juke... It's a lot more fun and same weight.
cadsux It may be that engine. ( manufacturers sometimes downrate horsepower for insurance purposes. I've read the dyno testing on this engine put out 200 horsepower so this may in fact be the 215 horsepower engine. reviewers has said that it's felt higher than 188.
It's a cool car, but unless you get it at a discount, the value proposition is tough. Though you get stiffer tuning, upgraded wheels and brakes, you don't get more power and it's still a Torsen beam suspension. As tom mentions, the Civic sport gets a newer design, similar power and IRS for significantly less (at least 2k). The WRX has IRS, AWD and significantly more power for just 3k more. And the Elantra Sport has a newer design, a little more power and better suspension for same $ or less.
I'm not really sure who would buy this car. The enthusiasts will do a ton of research and steer far clear of the Nismo due to its lack of true sport capability. The average consumer that likes the Sentra will realize that they can save thousands with the regular SR-Turbo and get all the same features. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of a hot Sentra like the original SE-R but this new Nismo needed to pack a lot more performance to be in the conversation with what the competitors are putting out.
I agree, I own a 02 Spev V and I'm not impressed. They went from 2.5L which has 175hp stock, to 1.6L 185hp with turbo. Not much of a great leap in power for the sedan. I wouldn't buy this car my opinion. Waiting for the new 240sx..
Keith Schwerin I wonder if there is less of a loss of power with the CVT versus are traditional automatic transmission. If so, then it is probably putting out around 200 horsepower. If it has has the same losses, then it may be putting out more than 200.
Hey Tom, Just want to say, really enjoy your reviews. I'm in Australia and some of the cars have no relevance here, but love your reporting style, always entertaining. In relation to the Sentra, you might be surprised to know considering this car is relatively popular in the US, our version (called Pulsar) was quietly dropped from the Nissan lineup at the beginning of the year due to poor sales. This is in a class that is the highest selling in Australia, Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla are consistently within the top 3 best sellers.
It's all about aesthetics and some twix. Hope Nissan did this Nismo ver. in their Maxima where it is advertise as a full-size sport premium sedan.😧 It looks meaner in black Tom, but I feel you with the gray shade - less to maintain and minor scratches are less obvious.
They are the same. Since there no extra power to tame I can see why they didn't upgrade. This from Nissan's press site for the Sentra SR- SR Turbo's 4-wheel disc brake system - 11.7-inch vent front (versus the 11.0-inch front discs of the standard Sentra) and 11.5-inch solid rear discs. In addition, the Active Understeer Control system has been optimized for the SR Turbo. And this, also from Nissan's press site (plus confirmed by engineers) about the NISMO- The Sentra NISMO also utilizes a 4-wheel disc brake system with 11.7-inch vent front discs and 11.5-inch solid rear discs.
To be honest. I am happy that Nissan is starting to go back to their sporting roots, but making a NISMO model with the same horses as the SR turbo. Not a good idea need to raise the horses.
Why couldn't they have just matched the concept at 240hp and 240 torque? i might be wrong on the torque. Replace the cvt with a dct or at least let it hold at red line without fake shifting
I was looking forward to this car for so long. Back since it was a concept about 4-5 years ago. I don't care much for the interior. But I was expecting bigger brakes and at least 200 BHP. A stock civic now produces 170-ish. For less. Aside fascia, it is an over-priced SR Turbo, which I drove and wasn't impressed, and is also over-priced. I guess Hyundai will receive my business with the Elantra Sport or the new Elantra Sport GT (hatchback) when it comes out for following year.
I have a 2017 sentra SR Midnight edition, has the exact same features just no nismo badges/appearance kit.(red). Glad I didn't spend a couple more thousand on that.
There are CVTs that do a pretty good impression of simulated manual snappy gear shifts. For those who needed an automatic transmission for some reason (heavy daily stop-and-go commutes or a spouse that won't drive a manual) it would help. A little.
for people who want more control of their gears, rpm, and transmission. but do not know how to drive manual? my parent's xv cross rek cvt has paddle shifters.
LMAO, I died laughing when you made the comment about taking people to the airport but them not reciprocating, my brother has a friend who is the shining example of that.
I have a 6 speed manual,I love it ,I get 30.4 miles per gallon.Fun to drive and when I get someone tailgating me U press the turbo button and leave them out of my eyesight.
An interesting car, but one whose purpose is shaky. No paddle shifters is a stupid decision, especially since it would cost so little to produce. Not exactly a novelty these days. It's a little bit stupid that they don't have better brake calipers on this car, especially since Nissan has access to their own parts bin for them. The pre-350 Z cars used four-piston versions that Subaru even pinched to put on the overseas WRX, later on the ones in the States too. All they had to do was slap those on there, in lieu of the cheap stock ones. Nice-looking seats, that's good, and a few style points but otherwise I'd call this a miss.
The only way this wouldve been worth the extra money is if they put a 2.0L turbo in it or a better tuned version of the same 1.6L with over 200hp. And CVT? Seriously? In a nismo? Common.. Shouldve just used a 6spd auto box.. And what is up with the lack of paddle shifters.. Like how expensive is it to put them on..? How can you matket this car towards the enthusiasts and not give them want they want
Paul Yuen that's honestly what drove me out of my cube (yes I know) but even the new CVT's aren't great their bland and really take away from the driving expirience.
After all these years, Nissan still requires premium gas for the "fast" Sentra . You get "nothing" for its use. I had the 02 Spec V with the garbage QR25de engine. Car engine was dead after 4 1/2 years. Anyway, the Japanese are nuts selling this car for this price with these specs with the present competition. Back in 02 the landscape was different. They need to get serious
Now that would be cool. But you can already get an Altima with the 3.5L. If they increased the 3.5L to the 370z's engine and output 350 HP with the Nismo badge and body work, now that would be interesting. But it would have to be released with a manual, so that it would be separate from the Maxima.
I have a Nissan Sentra 2016 S model there's not really a difference my car and the nismo just the body Kick and the LEDs I'm just going to buy the body kick and the LEDs and put it on my Sentra and it will look like a nismo car
Oh boy, not a fan of the looks with that body kit. I think I'd just stick with the SR Turbo if it were my money...and I weren't buying something else, which I probably would.
Yourenotalone Nah, sure you can get a moon roof with the SRTurbo, but there is a significant difference in the suspension tuning of the Nismo. it's been reported by a few respectable automotive journalists.
27k for a 1.6 turbo that puts 186hp...what kind of shit is that??? you can easily get a wrx awd with almost a 100 more hp for the same price....fuck this car....
lmfao yeah keep telling yourself that. The only thing I would see better than the WRX is the sound system. Fuck the civic si is better than this shit. Focus ST is another option...even the fucking ecoboost mustang. Fuck your overpriced and underperformed car.

Nismo offer a ECU Tune from the Factory, called a Nis Tune, I think it takes the power up to around 230 hp or so, I personally would have one of these cars, I like to be a bit different, why not, Drive safe.
Not sure why you care about dust on a black car. It is not yours, you are not selling it. Go for the truth, not the beauty ;-) I drove a rental Sentra two years ago - it was scary. Aggressive turn in with propensity to oversteer. Maybe Nissan fixed it since then. The Fiesta ST is much easier to drive, but its manual transmission linkage sucks, clunky and imprecise, and synchros are not tough enough for quick shifting.
It might not be mine but I have to keep it clean for photography and it's pain. That's my point. Also, it's a warning for those who might consider a black car and don't understand the concept.
I understand your point, I do not understand why do you have to keep it clean. Is it your professional credo? Why not show the car the way it looks in everyday life? Um, real news, not fake news ;-)
Jetta GLi is a much better car for the same money. Unfortunately they missed the mark with this nismo for me. No sunroof, a CVT? Cloth... That interior is awful for 28k.
Comparing this to anything from the likes of Mercedes Benz, Cadillac or BMW is an insult to all of their brands .. nismo may have been "the real deal" at one point but not lately .. the Juke, Z, and this thing are all a sad tale for Nissan, nobody who knows anything about a performance car will touch one .. No LSD, no irs, slow, ugly Corolla economic car looks, wheels which has worst offsets than the stock wheels, and fender gap higher than an suv, Nissan is so irrelevant. They do not know anything about sport since 2009. The Elantra Sport kills this in every way and is cheaper
@@chriswilliams3110 The 02-03 Spec V front end had a knockoff skyline bumper that looked like shit. The refreshed 04-06 Spec V looked way better from both front to back

lol same ;)
Farrad Mohammed I have the sr turbo I recommend it

But does anybody actually put regular gas in a GTI?
Keep up the great job, Tom! I've been enjoying your reviews for years.
So confusing that they wouldn't offer this car with 200+ hp with how fierce the competition is. It's like they didn't even want to try to compete...
Supertrooper697 it has 209hp...
188 hp in the Nismo here.
One thing I think you got wrong is the brakes. Heard it has slightly bigger brakes then the sr turbo. And yes I agree it should be 220-250hp

0-60 is 6.5 with the CVT, about 6.9 with the Manual. But I'm sure the manual is more fun.
interesting car. also interestingly enough, I had one and it was a lot of fun. I had a se-r spec v. loved it
188hp? That's not enough.
They should've made a AWD version.

Same and it has a great performance
Why is there a SR turbo trunk mat in a Nismo?
Because it matches the floor mats. Good eye.
Well done as always 👍
What purpose would paddle shifters have with a CVT?
There are CVTs that do a pretty good impression of simulated manual snappy gear shifts. For those who needed an automatic transmission for some reason (heavy daily stop-and-go commutes or a spouse that won't drive a manual) it would help. A little.
for people who want more control of their gears, rpm, and transmission. but do not know how to drive manual? my parent's xv cross rek cvt has paddle shifters.
Paddle shifters are only good with a DSG like the VW GTI. Not a auto or CVT
I think the new Hyundai Elentra Sport is a better value.
Looks good.
LMAO, I died laughing when you made the comment about taking people to the airport but them not reciprocating, my brother has a friend who is the shining example of that.
I've been waiting for my local dealerships to get a manual Sentra NISMO. ;_;
I'd say get the SR Turbo and customize it with the money you'll save. You're mostly getting body panels and a badge with Nismo on it.
I have a 6 speed manual,I love it ,I get 30.4 miles per gallon.Fun to drive and when I get someone tailgating me U press the turbo button and leave them out of my eyesight.
I feel like your just paying for the nismo badge on this.
That's exactly what youre paying for
CVT?! wtf, why didn't you review the 6-speed manual version???
Hope the next Sentra is at least competitive...and not so tall!

For reference, a Civic with the 1.5t (non-Si) is faster 0-60... ouch.
CVT?!!! Really!!??? 😡
I will never consider it simply because of CVT. A sports car (if you ever consider the Sentra "NISMO" is one) will NEVER use CVT!!!
You have 2 choices..manual or CVT.
Paul Yuen that's honestly what drove me out of my cube (yes I know) but even the new CVT's aren't great their bland and really take away from the driving expirience.
I'd actually prefer a CVT...but I have drive in rush hour traffic a lot and manuals would be a pain in the ass to drive
the cvt in my 2015 juke nismo is actually amazing,, no problems and it really does perform

Wow, for $27k this is WAY over priced IMO, many other far higher-achieving cars for that money (Volkswagen GTI, I'm looking at you!)

Tom B yes it is 1.6L 188hp is power for a small engine
This car is a joke... Nissan can do much better than this shit.
The Sentra is too fat. It needs to lose some weight and bulk badly.
all that toilet paper cant clean up what sh@# this car is,a true shame to nismo heritage.....
The Fiesta is ugly. Nismo looks good.
Good review...
horrible car
Nismo Sentra is WAY better looking than the Fiesta ST.
buildmorefarms100
Lmao try again. The old 2002 sentra spec v was the best look than this garbage
Nope, that old Sentra 2002 spec V had a shovel nose...ugly.
It attracted you to come watch! :)
@@chriswilliams3110 The 02-03 Spec V front end had a knockoff skyline bumper that looked like shit. The refreshed 04-06 Spec V looked way better from both front to back
Nissan is so irrelevant
Yet it attracted you!
snazari1994 not really, they're selling a lot of cars and increasing revenue.
A comment that couldn't be more wrong...
Yet the irrelevant Nissan attracted you to come watch this video! LOL!
You must not follow automotive trends....
Over priced and under powered
What a horrible car.
trash car
This nismo version is such a disappointment. So doughy looking inside and out.
Zz
Horrible vehicle
stock rice ,, im sorry nissan
What a failure of a car. No extra power for the Nismo... what the hell?
