I will forever feel sorry for some of the basic battle droids of the Clone Wars. They could be a lively bunch, but they were stuck being cannon fodder against the Republic's forces.
My favorite part is even though its orders are to protect the child and be a nurse droid, it took the initiative to totally wipe out a towns worth of stormtroopers for the safety of the child.
That was all protocol. IG was a walking computer and had to follow strict programming, so his base command was to self destruct because he wasn’t permitted to be captured. He really had no choice. Super cool how it all was written and played out.
I was born in New Zealand, and it makes me so happy to hear the Kiwi accent in so much modern media. I have very fond memories of when I used to live there.
Ig-11 repeating "self destruct mode initiating" reminds me of my damn cat that keeps pushing a glass of water off the edge of a table lmao. Like NO MFER STAHP
He’s honestly my favorite new character and I love the idea of reprogram killer robots to be nursing droid. It sucks that he had to die, I think they could have done neat things with his character.
I always wondered how these clunky and rigid looking droids we're supposed to be feared assassins, because all we ever saw of them before was random shots or pictures of them standing still (well minus the junkyard level in the Shadows of the Empire game). Now it makes perfect sense.
Great to see the IG unit get some focus. I've always been intrigued given the inclusion in the Empire Strikes Back (all those bounty hunters are iconic!)
Hard to tell who would win in a fight between IG-11 and HK-47. Would be a hell of a fight to watch (and would be sad to see one of them go, if not both).
IG-11 before his reconstruction would have annoyed HK-47 whom is a hunter with a mission beyond the kill. HK picks his kills to get the most results out of the target’s death effectively calculating and banking on the sociological response to basically keep the galaxy in order. Not an in the moment and simple subsistence super turret that IG- acts like (even though his movements and targeting are precise and waste nothing) While HK would dislike IG being a nurse droid more (unless he respects the need to protect and nurture the child) the door was now opening for IG to evolve a personality that could comprehend and appreciate the ripple effects of a single drastic action, how to predict eventualities, and how to benefit from them. And not at least learning how to hunt the way HK does would perhaps be the most distressing for HK. As for combating each other I suspect HK’s more varied arsenal would help and his tendency to not mess around by relying on blasters and would go for ion weapons/stunners if he really wanted IG dead.
One thing I like about 'Star Wars' droids is that they often have that METAL MACHINE look, rather than that ultra-sleek, Apple Store like look of the androids/synthetics of other sci-fi 'universes'.
I absolutely LOVE when droids behave like droids rather than just a clunky human. Sensors scanning, things happening in different directions at the same time, and general aim-bot hackery. They did it pretty good with K2SO, but IG-11 was the pinnacle.
@@BearsNGym. ig series droids programming can be copied(ig-88a did it and activated ig-88b,c+d) so if that's been done boba would only need a replacement memory core
It would be really stupid to add this in with little explanation. What reason would Mando have to carry his parts in the first place? And how would he even know where to find them too?
Which goes to show that the whole "droids suck" narrative in Star Wars make no sense. Even a basic droid would essentially have 360 degree optics and aimbot functions, and if equipped with data links any number of droids could fight together organism. For example every droid could target a single square inch of a single target's approximate location, that way not even dodging or deflecting shots would save say a Jedi from getting hit. Droids can also have excellent tactical and strategic abilities, as R2-D2 demonstrated when commanding a squad of battle droids.
This is true. The in-lore reasons Battle Droids were lacking because Palpatine sabotaged their development. Your standard Battle Droids also had CPU's that were constantly strained, preventing any sort of competent thinking or aim. A droid army left untainted would've swept over The Republic with ease.
Most B-1’s were literally made as cheaply as possible. To say “droids suck” is like saying “knifes suck” when only looking at a random sharpened piece of iron. Or “guns suck” when only looking at a one shot pipe rifle somebody cobbled in their garage. The B-1’s could have been as good if not better than they were at Naboo. They would never have compared individually to many other droids, but swarms coupled with incremental improvements and good tactics could have been a war winner, sith machinations and Jedi powers not withstanding
@@watch50er some commando version of B1s were in fact pretty deadly! Really nimble, perfect aim, fast as heck, using hand to hand combat techniques, and moreover: logical thinking. They could take decisions based on the moment, they could elaborate good strategy, they learned thorought battle...thuss negating the only weakness of droids: imagination. That was the whole point of creating clones, human brains was technically best at this, while you could learn those individuals how to "act" as machines, they ended being more deadly than perfectly coordinated droids but laking this imagination touch. But commando droids are as smart as a human being PLUS all advantages of being droids, quintescence of what B1's should have been. If a clone is worth 10 classic B1, they equal at best to 1 commando droid if not less. But thats just not taking into acount we are here puting *commando* against *basic* clones. If you take a commando clone, then I think he's worth 5 or more commando droid EASY, so 50 or more B1s (when Jedi have been said to be worth 100ish B1s, wich is clearly an understatement imo, especially when you look at the best fighters of the order like Anakin, Ahsoka, Kenobi, Windu or even Yoda to some extent)

7:23 Lmao that 2-legged r2 like droid was so cute
Ig 11 is by far my favorite character. I hope another ig shows up in Book of Boba episode 7
I love how the captures the droids movements in this; truly terrifying! Loads of droids in the prequels but they all look so organic compared to this.
Love that the droids have personalities it makes them more likable
I will forever feel sorry for some of the basic battle droids of the Clone Wars. They could be a lively bunch, but they were stuck being cannon fodder against the Republic's forces.
@@Mike_Dubo honest to god, i'd love a B1 droid as a friend.
1:05 I don't think I'll ever get tired of this sequence
People who played played Shadows of the Empire had flashbacks when IG11 showed up
IG-11 was a highlight of the series. Seeing him just stand there in ESB made me think, 'what can that droid do?' My question was answered very well!
My favorite part is even though its orders are to protect the child and be a nurse droid, it took the initiative to totally wipe out a towns worth of stormtroopers for the safety of the child.
That was the ai paperclip paradime in action
Observation: The enemy is everywhere
Problem: They could harm the child
Solution: Become John Wick
That was all protocol. IG was a walking computer and had to follow strict programming, so his base command was to self destruct because he wasn’t permitted to be captured. He really had no choice. Super cool how it all was written and played out.
I was born in New Zealand, and it makes me so happy to hear the Kiwi accent in so much modern media. I have very fond memories of when I used to live there.
I loved this Droid!
This was a good character.
It acted and sounded like a droid.
No over-emotional tendencies like that in Solo and it's actions are logical.
Probably one of my top 3 favorite characters in Star Wars. Love IG 11
1:15
IG-11 “It appears we are trapped. I will initiate self-destruct sequence.”
Mando: “ *WHA* “
The coolest thing to come from the Mandalorian series.
Season 1 was "trying to talk IG-88 out of self-destructing". And failing.
Ig-11 repeating "self destruct mode initiating" reminds me of my damn cat that keeps pushing a glass of water off the edge of a table lmao. Like NO MFER STAHP
The IG Series was always one of the baddest.
We can all agree that IG-11 was made so well in the mandalorian.
Him with grogu on a speedor is just badass.
Another nod to Terminator 2, the protector robot.
“I love IG units”
Same dude!
Imagine an IG-11 droid covered in full Beskar armor
I'm so happy IG is back in season 3!
Damn, Taika Waititi is always a great choice for animated characters. 😁
That's Carl Weathers @5:22. Rest in peace Mr. Weathers.
This is how IG-88 should've been. A truly terrifying droid
I love the IG unites designs they are so fucking cool man
Ikr?!?
6:16
Imagine Grevious’ personal guards droids did actually make jokes
From a hunter, to a nursing droid, to a suit, to a freaking law enforcer...this IG unit is still kick ass
He’s honestly my favorite new character and I love the idea of reprogram killer robots to be nursing droid. It sucks that he had to die, I think they could have done neat things with his character.
It was helarious with Mando having to talk down IG-11 from blowing himself up 🤣
0:41 dude, you gotta love how he walks over the guy's leg. what a detail to think of
honestly my fav character from the mandelorian.
so sad when he was gone
I.G. -88 was truly sentient, and built as an assasin droid. That's what makes him scary af. In the novels he uploaded his mind into the death star.
I've always been intrigued given the inclusion in the Empire Strikes Back (all those bounty hunters are iconic!)
ig88: got in with the death star
ig11: became a hero
Hard to tell who would win in a fight between IG-11 and HK-47. Would be a hell of a fight to watch (and would be sad to see one of them go, if not both).
IG-11 before his reconstruction would have annoyed HK-47 whom is a hunter with a mission beyond the kill. HK picks his kills to get the most results out of the target’s death effectively calculating and banking on the sociological response to basically keep the galaxy in order. Not an in the moment and simple subsistence super turret that IG- acts like (even though his movements and targeting are precise and waste nothing)
While HK would dislike IG being a nurse droid more (unless he respects the need to protect and nurture the child) the door was now opening for IG to evolve a personality that could comprehend and appreciate the ripple effects of a single drastic action, how to predict eventualities, and how to benefit from them.
And not at least learning how to hunt the way HK does would perhaps be the most distressing for HK.
As for combating each other I suspect HK’s more varied arsenal would help and his tendency to not mess around by relying on blasters and would go for ion weapons/stunners if he really wanted IG dead.
K2SO and IG-11 remain my two favouritest Star Wars droids.
One thing I like about 'Star Wars' droids is that they often have that METAL MACHINE look, rather than that ultra-sleek, Apple Store like look of the androids/synthetics of other sci-fi 'universes'.
Exactly, they look like actual robots and not like.. for instance….. like in “I, Robot”
I absolutely LOVE when droids behave like droids rather than just a clunky human. Sensors scanning, things happening in different directions at the same time, and general aim-bot hackery. They did it pretty good with K2SO, but IG-11 was the pinnacle.
IG-11 ‘s story reminded me a lot about T-800. A killer who was turned into a protector and died an honorable death.
Press F to thin robot with flaming heart
Imagine If somehow his memory unit survived and boba rebuilds him for the final fight
I'd think IG units upload their memories before death? I don't know how the droids work in the world of star wars.
@@BearsNGym. ig series droids programming can be copied(ig-88a did it and activated ig-88b,c+d) so if that's been done boba would only need a replacement memory core
@@jameslennie5203 we hope, we wish
It would be really stupid to add this in with little explanation. What reason would Mando have to carry his parts in the first place? And how would he even know where to find them too?
Casuals barely finding out about how lethal IG droids are 💀
I love this droid :)
Man I miss IG-11, doesn't feel right as he currently is
Which goes to show that the whole "droids suck" narrative in Star Wars make no sense.
Calm down skywalker.....its just a TV show lol Go take a midol
You Will not think "droids suck" after Republic Commando.
If you take a commando clone, then I think he's worth 5 or more commando droid EASY, so 50 or more B1s
(when Jedi have been said to be worth 100ish B1s, wich is clearly an understatement imo, especially when you look at the best fighters of the order like Anakin, Ahsoka, Kenobi, Windu or even Yoda to some extent)
He died a hero and made the ultimate sacrifice to get himself not captured
You should do all Tarkin scenes
When we’re done with Bounty Hunters thing i’m sure he’ll release it.
