Even if we imagine gods existed, it wouldn't be the most important thing. If a god popped out of the sky today saying "worship me or else" I'd be repulsed by the thought of a being that demands my obedience. I'd question why that "god" is making those demands. Ultimately I'd dismiss them as a "god". The likelihood would be that they're some sort of rogue alien from an advanced civilization posing as a "god", seeking worship for the ego trip. Odd scenario but more plausible than actual gods.

Great discussion between these 2 men.I don't wanna sugar coat my comment by saying that this is coming from a Christian (I am), but I find it sad when Christians live in fear of exploring possibilities of God not existing and thinking that watching videos of Atheists might make them stop believing in God. God either exists or doesn't. It's either the most important thing, or no importance, and that is the attitude that people need to have.

Science is about asking questions and trying to answer them. Science does not leave questions unanswered because it thinks they cannot be answered. And science also doesn't accept silly explanations without evidence in place of real answers. Science is not about knowing everything- it is about never stopping at "I don't know."

On the same token, the other side says that having an imaginary friend is what makes humans unique. We have the ability to project what scenario may or may not happen with a private conversation in one's head. Therefore, imaginary friend, is a practice to help one socially as a child until you grow up and use that projection as a rehearsal, as long as you know its not real.

And what I do know is that I'm alive right now and I can make a difference in the world at this moment. While it can be fun to make wild speculations about things we don't know (and it certainly makes for good coffee-shop philosophizing) it's easy to become obsessed with it if you're not careful. I consider it very unwise to stake all of your hope in one idea unless you are awfully darn sure that idea is correct!

  • @muhhest

I don't ignorantly generalize. I arrogantly generalize. I'm aware that there are a majority of people, who worship some kind of deity, that are perfectly capable of differing between what's right and what's wrong etc. etc. My opinion, which was a paraphrase to begin with, was merely, that religion sets up rules that must be followed, even sometimes against common sense. And in it is that capacity, that religion's inherent problem is. Even buddhists have issues effectively limiting it's followers

@EvelcyclopS (Continued further) And as for the '460 degrees', the surface of the earth (particularly at the poles etc) would have undergone periods of heating and cooling. Yes the temperature may have been near this level at some point, but by the time the earth had cooled the environment was suitable for the 'building blocks' of life to form. For more info you might want to search "Abiogenesis".

@EvelcyclopS (continued) This plus the heat from the nearby star (the sun, formed in exactly the same way, by aggregation of mass), sped up movement at a molecular level to facilitate random collision of gaseos molecules such as: CO, H2O, H2S, CH4, NH4 etc. This resulted in the formation of the first amino acids (simulated in the 'Miller - Urey' experiment, which shows the formation of these amino acids in a sealed container of the same gases). These are the mose basic organic molecules.

    harshvgaus ,
It clearly states in the info box that this is uncut. Maybe you're not familiar with the processes of making TV programmes but you may also have noticed many of the questions being asked and answered slightly differently. These may be because an interviewer or interviewee decide on reflection they'd prefer to ask/answer them differently or because the producer thinks a different approach would edit better into the final piece. It's just TV!

A few years ago I was driving toward an underpass when I got the urgent feeling I should slow right down, even though I was already under the speed limit. Suddenly a van came out, speeding and on the wrong side of the road, with a very small child unrestrained and standing up on the front passenger seat. If I had been doing the speed limit I would have been unable to avoid the van, we would have crashed, and the child would have died. So, what was that? How could I have known?

There's also a great book called "The Intention Experiement" which contains references to many scientific studies of 'mind over matter'. There have been plenty of such studies actually but the prejudice in the scientific world runs SO deep that it is almost impossible to get them peer reviewed. A gifted healer I know was sucessfully tested by London Uni in six double blind experiments but 'Nature' dismissed the experiments BEFORE reading the papers/looking at the details!!!

I challenge you to find a single quote from Richard Dawkins where he specifically says that all religion is "evil." I would not doubt that he's said that all religion is "bad," but I don't think "evil" is a way he would put it.
Saying all religion is bad may be generalizing a little too much, but saying "some" religion is bad is a gross understatement. An argument can easily be made that Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism(in practice) are all bad for society, which includes most people

Paradoxically, I too don't believe in the statement in general: "if you don't know about X, how can you know it is unsafe?" There are plenty of instances in life where you have to play it safe, put your trust in authority, rather than risk something awful. And it hypnosis certainly has the can be harmful, if used for the wrong things. It's not that I believe hypnosis should not be studied and practiced; it should. But the claim of believers cannot be dismissed so easily in general.

We know the mind can alter the details of past memories and even produce entirely false memories. We know the suggestion of something happening can alter a person's behavior causing them to act out the very thing suggested, ( without them consciously realizing they are doing it ). We know rare coincidences do rarely happen. We know the human mind is terrible at doing intuitive statistics. We know there are electromagnetic waves in the air we can't see. Etc, etc, etc...

Interesting stuff, I used to give 'palm readings' to friends. I used it as a way to deliver motivational words. It's quite nice to say "you're a bit insecure but for no reason", yet if you give such affirmation openly, you come up against a huge defense. I also do my own tarot readings or consult the i-ching when things are a bit blurry, but if something is untrue & react strongly against it i learn about myself. These things have a place, but not as psychic tools, just as banal pointers.

The question then becomes is it acceptable to create or maintain a deception if it makes other people happier ? Some people find comfort in believing that evil people will be punished and good people rewarded, and that all this will make sense one day, but is it fair to live in a lie ?

The passion, with which he acquires, stores and conveys information and knowledge just really blows me away. He's so thorough, without ever getting boring.
The reason many people hate him, or dislike him, is because he IS an elitist, or as he puts it himself, and intellectual snob. He lifts the veil. Ignorance truly is bliss for most people

Also, that day there was hardly any traffic on the road, in fact that was the only vehicle that came out of the underpass, there was no other traffic other than him and me there at that time.

Derrens "gift" in hypnosis comes from studying it for a long time. Him being very charismatic, good linguistic skills and effective use of NLP-Neuro-linguistic programming.
