    This was a super informative review on how KVM works. I just discovered dual PC/Mac set ups is possible and now I am so much more clear on how I can go about that for myself. Not too many good videos on how to on UA-cam, only people showing hey this is what I did and what I used but not technical help/how to. Appreciate you guys!

    Found a solution for macOS users who are frustrated like I was when the monitor disconnects, it stops playing audio and is difficult to wake back up. I tried the Amphetamine app and it didn't even work for me. Here's what did:
    Open up the Terminal Mac app and enter this:
    sudo pmset -a disablesleep 1
    Obviously to revert, change the 1 to 0. It will prompt you for your password, just enter it and it immediately solves the problem. It was driving me crazy so I'm happy this works.
    This is working for me on the latest macOS Sonoma beta so hopefully it will work for you!

    if your m1 Mac goes to sleep while its closed it can be woken without opening the lid if you have a bluetooth connected mouse/keyboard. I use Logitech multi-device keyboard and mouse for a setup similar to this.

    • @avicotech-us

      That makes sense since the BT connection is straight from the peripheral to the MBPro. It doesn't rely on the USB ports to remain awake while the MBPro is sleeping. Thanks for the tip.

      Should’ve bought one of our KVMs, they’re headache free lol! I’m not familiar with AV KVMs but I do know not all docking stations work well in KVM environment, the KVM adds extra hurdles for the video connections that docks simply can’t handle. We usually recommend Dell, Targus or pluggable docks with display link software.

    I have TESmart - HKS0402A1U with a Wavlink UG69PD8-Pro docking station for a dual monitor and Windows 11 and macOS setup. The mouse/keyboard is Logitech MK710 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo. Everything works well, except the MacBook Pro (MBP) M1 Max (with macOS Ventura 13.4) doesn't connect to the keyboard/mouse after switching. I have tested it on another MacBook Pro 2018 15" with macOS Ventura 13.4, and both the keyboard/mouse works well.
    The problem is with the Apple M1 Max MBP. It doesn't recognize the KB/mouse. However, when I connect the Logitech Unifying receiver to the Wavlink UG69PD8-Pro docking station Apple M1 Max MBP recognizes the KB/mouse. Please note that I do not see "Allow accessories to connect" in macOS 13.4 under the Privacy & Security panel.
    Does anyone have a problem connecting the mouse/keyboard to Apple M1 Max MacBook Pro?

    • @avicotech-us

      The KVM needs two video connections from each device to be able to output both monitors, the DP is more flexible for desktop computers with graphics card on it and the mode 2 of the KVM allows you to have one computer on the first screen and the other computer on the second screen simultaneously, however you cannot drag the mouse from one monitor to another, you will have to "jump" from PC1 to PC2 with the hotkey command 'ALT+ALT'

      If you have a 2x1 setup (2 laptops and 1 monitor) checkout this video: ua-cam.com/video/AnyF5pGs4co/v-deo.html For the laptop with HDMI that'll be easy. For the other laptop, you'll need an adapter depending on what ports are available to you. We've never seen a laptop with no video output, unless it has Thunderbolt but there are USB3.0 to HDMI adapters you can use if you really only have USB3.0 for that laptop. buytesmart.com/pages/adapters

      Hi JC, you need 2 video connections from the Mac 1 to the KVM to be able to extend the monitors for it, and the Mac 2 should be connected directly to the monitor without being involved with the KVM, but this means you won't be able to share 1 set of keyboard and mouse and you will have to select the video output every time you swap between computers. Your best option is to use both Macs with the KVM.

    Am I understanding it right that the difference between the HKS0402A1U, the HDK0402A1U and the HKS0802A1U is that the first is 2 computer input/HDMI only, second is 2 computer input, HDMI and DP, finally the third is 4 computer input HDMI only? I'm a bit confused what the "cascading" refers to here? I think DP allows chaining of displays, but HDMI doesn't?
    PS: have you tried launching some pseudo-job with Caffeine or Amphetamine (the former command line only, the latter with a GUI)? It prevents Mac sleep from interrupting long running jobs, which I need to do for analysis and code jobs all the time. Even some task that runs in the background with a sleep() - so it doesn't gobble up CPU - should do the trick.
    PPS: Your website shows the HDK0402A1U as both in-stock *and* out-of-stock. Until you want to buy it, click on it - and then find out that yep, it's out of stock like everything else on the planet. 😭

      1) The HKS0802 is a 4 computer 2 monitor model and has all HDMI inputs and all HDMI outputs. The HKS0402 is the same but with 2 computers and 2 monitors. The HDK0402 is 2 computers and 2 monitors but each computer connects via 1 HDMI and 1 DP (so it's good for most desktop GPU's and docking stations).

      You just need a KVM then. Most likely your dock will work fine with the KVM. If you need specific help, you an always open a ticket on buytesmart.com

    Is it possible to remove the Mac from the setup (for when I travel and want to take the Mac with me) and have it connect to the monitors again easily ? Or will have to do the setup process all over again

      It's very easy. You just have to replug the Mac back in. While the Mac is away, the desktop will play. :P

    Hello,
    I have a Lenovo notebook (Legion 5i model). Do i need some drive to work with this KVM device or i only need to plug correctly and will work? I'm using Windows 11.
    Is there a problem using the KVM with only one monitor?

    • @avicotech-us
      @avicotech-us  2 роки тому

      Hey,
      No drivers are necessary, its all plug and play. The Legion 5i has an HDMI and thunderbolt 4 port that can be converted to DisplayPort(DP). You will need a Type C to DP adapter, we recommend to choose adapters from our approved adapter list(not all adapters work well in a KVM environment): buytesmart.com/pages/adapters
      Using it with one monitor is fine. Just keep in mind that when you're going to use dual monitors you need 2 video connections from each computer.

      Hey, if you have an USB dongle make sure is plugged onto the dedicated USB port (marked with a keyboard and mouse icon) don't try to connect them via Bluetooth because the KVM doesn't support such feature.

    Can you advise what that monitor stand is. You are using with the Lg monitors

      It's a combination of 2 (AMZ links below). The base is one piece and then the mounts on the arms are turned forward so the pin is facing the user. We drilled a hole in the back of the speakers to mount them to the pins. The monitors are attached with gas spring arms that also fit on the base. We didn't use the pole that came with the gas spring arms, just the arms. Gas spring arms are important because you can get perfect alignment for dual monitors.

    Can I add a single monitor kvm to my PC and Mac then add another monitor to my MacBook only?

    • @avicotech-us

      Yeah that's fine, you can use this KVM with a single monitor or dual. You will need 2 video connections from the Mac once you have the 2 monitors.

    Hello, I have a multiple monitor setup with up to 4 monitors (currently have 3), I have currently one Dell laptop with just a USBC output and HDMI output to my monitor
    Is there a KVM that allows me to switch between two laptops with output to the KVM to output to multiple monitors (3-4)?) That accept HDMI / USBC?

    • @avicotech-us
      @avicotech-us  2 роки тому

      You will need a docking station that is capable of making 3 video outputs if you want 3 monitors. Likewise, if you want to get up to 4 monitors, you'll need a dock that can do 4 video outputs. We aren't aware of a KVM that can daisy chain monitors using USB-C (i.e. MST technology).

    Hi, has the M1 charged when plugged into the D3100 Dock ?

    • @avicotech-us

      Yes, the MacBook was charged but it doesn't need to be completely charged to work with the Dock, if you have issues with it try updating the drivers.

    Is it possible to connect an audio interface (UA Apollo Twin) that runs my stereo monitors into the USB port of the TES and have it work for both the Mac and Windows OS's ?

    • @avicotech-us
      @avicotech-us  2 роки тому +1

      Yea, it will work. You will need a USB C to USB A cable. We don't have experience with UA specifically but I'm pretty sure the data rates necessary for the hardware doesn't exceed KVM's USB speeds. Audio usually doesn't take up that much bandwidth.

    Both of my monitors are dvi/vgi only. Do you recommend getting new ones that are hdmi or USB?

    • @avicotech-us
      @avicotech-us  2 роки тому

      We would recommend getting new one's because of the number of video conversions. Let's say you have Thunderbolt output on a laptop. The video signal will convert from TB to DisplayPort to HDMI to DVI. Sometimes this many conversions can cause issues with DVI monitors... and definitely will if you are trying to use VGA.
