I love that passage (s) for a few reasons
1- the part abt the dark side is super cool
2- the whole thing put together basically describes the entire 6 episode saga

“There is selfless love, and there is selfish love. There’s love that’s about you, and there’s love that’s about how *I* feel about you, and Anakin fails to make that distinction”.
    Man, that’s powerful.

"How can one win a war against the dark when the war itself was the dark's own weapon?"
There is no piece of Star Wars media better than the masterpiece that is the ROTS novelisation.

this is my favourite book of all time, I have had to buy several copies over the years because I have read the story so many times that the front and back pages eventually fall off and I have to replace it. Amazing story taken to another level by Mathew Stover. After reading it enough times and although I will always love the movie; the movie basically just skims the story line and provides images to help you imagine the book better. THANK YOU FOR CREATING THIS BOOK, I AM ETERNALLY GREATFUL!!

Damn, this book has some disturbing descriptions. From Neimodian heads being smashed into their computers and the book describing the corpse to Anakin stabbing a Separtist in the heart and carving his other two hearts out. It's disturbing.... but it's awesome.

It's not that Anakin didn't have selfless love, he demonstrated it in AOTC when he did his duty after Padme fell off the ship because that is what she would have done. But, Sidious offered him the option of never having to choose, he could save her and the galaxy. Because of that, he started focusing inwards, like Sith do, because he was the was the one who was going to save them, and his desires aligned with their welfare, so it was okay for him to be selfish. Only he realised the difference after Padme died because he was only thinking about himself. That's why he was able to make a selfless decision with Luke.

      True.

The prequel trilogy is meant to serve as a cautionary tale with the point being that you shouldn't be like Anakin regardless of harsh circumstances and inevitabilities of life. We cannot control everything that happens to us, but we can control how we react. The character himself knew deep down what he was doing was wrong: "What have I done?" at the beginning of his descent and "it's too late for me" at the end. Those are not the words of someone who truly views their actions as justified or sees themselves as a victim.
One instance of Anakin putting his duty before his desires does not invalidate the point Stover is making. Besides in the scene you're talking about Anakin demands the craft's pilot to stop and pick her up. He only begrudgingly comes to his senses after Obi-Wan has to explain to him the mission at hand. In Episode 3 we see what happens when this individual is left to his own devices. The instant he realized Padme was not buying into his nonsense and she made it known she was finished with him, you saw his true intentions. If he could not have her no one would.

I just finished this book and it was amazing. I really liked that it had emotional depth of each character and explains situations with more detail. It also has some scenes which are not in the movie that added more to the story and how difficult was the situation anakin was in. Also, it was genius the way that character perspectives changed throughout the story. And it explored more the relationships between anakin and padme and palpatine and obi wan

One of my all time favorite books. I know ROTS is a film. Film is Film. Books are Books. Different creative mediums to engage with that have different results. Purely as a book, this is the most compelling book I return to often. His respect for the material, integrity, and focus on letting the psychology/perspective of the characters (not just Anakin as is the focus of the film) you get a 360 degree perspective of all the characters which heightens the enjoyment of ROTS story and dramatic function.

I really loved this book, especially the dueling scene with Anakin and Obi-Wan vs. Dooku. They made Dooku look like a fool lol. I also really liked the "The Dark is generous" lines. It shows that the Dark Side is only acting as it will. It may be negative at times, but that's how it is and it shows that it plays its part in the Star Wars universe.

I have to say, as a person just beginning to get into legends expanded universe, Matthew Stover is a phenomenal writer. He is definitely a master at capturing the characters internal pyschologies, motivations, emotions etc. I feel he gets right at the heart of the narrative for what it was and executes it at the highest standard possible.
What makes this better than the ROTS movie is that Stover takes the concepts that Lucas wanted to display and illustrates them in his novel better than Lucas ever could. The transition of Anakin Skywalker, the hero of the clone wars, to Darth Vader, the most feared being in the galaxy, was great. It was a gradual transition where you begin to understand why he makes certain choices and how the actions he's done leads to the monster he eventually became.
The description of the Republic and the Jedi as moral peacekeepers whose flaws eventually led to their downfall was amazing. We understand how the republic was now corrupted to the point that it paved way for the empire and how a democratic system, if unchecked, can eventually lead to an autocratic empire held by a totalitarian ruler. You understand why the Jedi lost and how the Sith were able to get their revenge.
Mace, Obi Wan, Yoda desperately attempt to save the Republic, save civilization but they fail. But hey have failed from the beginning, the Sith had changed and Stover artfully presents this to us. This is the book I'd reccomend to anyone insterested in the Expanded Universe. IT IS UNDOUBTEDlY A MASTERPIECE.
There is still too much I haven't even mentioned that the book does perfectly. If you haven't read it, READ IT. It will not be a mistake.

The book came out a month before the movie. I bought it the first day it was released, immediately took it home and read the entire thing nonstop until 7 o'clock the next morning (ended up getting sick from lack of sleep). When I finally saw the movie, it was... well, let's say it was akin to "wham bam, thank you, ma'am". The movie just felt rushed.
I think one of my most favorite parts of the book is when Palpatine's face was half covered in shadow, giving us a visual representation of the two-faced villain he was, as he revealed to Anakin that it was he who murdered Darth Plageuis in his sleep. That could have been a terrifying, sinister, ominous scene. I wish it had been in the movie.

If you want the real story of Han and Leia's children, you should dig into the Legends Expanded Universe continuity, beginning with Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command, (collectively known as the original Thrawn Trilogy) written by Timothy Zahn in the early 1990s, which includes the birth of their twins Jacen and Jaina Solo, and continue on from there. Those stories are far better written than the new continuity (save for a couple of stand-alone books like Heir to the Jedi, which is set between Episodes IV: A New Hope and V: The Empire Strikes Back).
