Cheers Jonathan. I have had my PC for approx. 11 years and I have never backed it up. But, after watching your video and following your step by step instructions I have now backed up my PC. Albeit that I am now 67 years of age, the video gave me clear guidance how to achieve a BACKUP ON A COMPUTOR.

Thank you heaps for making this tutorial Jonathan. Now the learning really begins with backing up!!! I too couldn't work out if my data was overwritten using "from last backup date" or a complete back was made each time. I'm guessing earlier backups drop off if you've set say "keep for a month", so there would always be space for a new back up. Lots of interesting questions from interesting and lovely people.

Thank you Jonathan. Very clear video. I have a Samsung all in one which has Windows 10. I’m retired and don’t use it as often but decided to back up to an external drive. I purchased a Maxone (received today) and followed your excellent instructions. My question is when I plugged it in and backed up everything, it now shows 2 drives both named Maxone but I’m unsure why it duplicated. Should I delete one? I’m hesitant to do that, of course. I appreciate any advice.

  • @bettermost

Ok so those of you saying nothing is happening after you click on back up now for the first time here is how it goes. First it takes a couple hours for the two units to figure out how much space is needed and to configure the back up drive. Once this happens it’s going to read 0% because it hasn’t saved anything yet it’s just configured to save. Click back up now again and the true back up will now start. When it’s done it will say back up complete on the date you did it and you are all done. Now backups should be automatic.

I am trying to set up some backups for users at my organization who are very computer illiterate and crybabies when it comes to any data loss ie it's IT's fault when they don't back up their files have a system failure and IT can't recover my files. My other concern is that they won't have their external HDD plugged in or computer turned on when it is time for a scheduled backup

I suspect you solved my problem (I say suspect because tomorrow, as you know, the problem may come back to haunt me again because computers possess their own form of bipolarism multiplied by a gigabyte factor and may repeat problems all over again). Case in point -- My WD Passport was scanning my computer but not giving me the source drive (C: hard drive) to save to the target drive (D: passport external drive). Your video instruction appears to have solved the problem as it gave me the option I was looking for. In either event -- thank you and, yes, I subscribed.
