I've been listening to Yngwie since the Steeler album. I literally called my best friend at 1:15 in the morning and said, "turn on WHJY! You've got to hear this guy!" My life has not been the same since. Met Yngwie in Providence on the Eclipse tour, and Yngwie is one of the nicest, most down to earth guys I've ever met!
Realizing Yngwie uses patterns changed the game for me. One of these vids, he mentions almost in passing how what he does (on the speed runs) is patterns. That immediately unlocked a door for me. From struggling to increase my speed (alternate picking, synchronization between my hands, etc) to NOW is incredible. For some reason, these patterns feel like they were made for my hands. Thank you, Yngwie, for that insight into your playing. Changed the world for me.
I immediately knew Yngwie was on another level when I first heard him in 84'. I grew up with Blackmore, Schon, Gilmour, Page, Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, et al. Yngwie totally took me to another dimension. I've been to his soundchecks, the man can play anything under the sun. Will listen to the Maestro till my last breath.
How do you know If a guitarist is the one......when Fender and Marshall endorsed and do everything you tell them....a master of the craft...skill and knowledge on the guitar unmatched...truly and only the G.O.A.T...Yngwie J. Malmsteen
Every single person I've met who knocks Yngwie, either can't play guitar, or they suck at it. Real musicians know what they're listening to. And despite all of his unique and soaring talent; it's his compositions that make him immortal. People seem to forget that it takes so much more than mechanical skill to be able to write original music, and specifically, original melody. I'll never forget my first guitar teacher at 16 (which lasted one month). I told him I wanted to play Malmsteen and he said with a straight face, "You'll never be able to play like that." I was absolutely furious. After that I practiced like hell. And eventually, with much hard work, I taught myself (by watching and listening to Yngwie) how to shred and sweep pick (I can play four different instruments, now). So now, when people assume I'm good at guitar because they hear me messing around with phrases from Arpeggios From Hell, Trilogy Suite, Paganini, Bach, and Mozart, I say, "If you think I'm good, you ain't heard nothin'."
This guy doesn't get enough credit for his art skill and talent and history of himself. He is his own style orchestrated. Fender guitars are the most comfortable. Necks are perfect
It's wonderful to hear a man with that unique talent from God praising other musicians. He could be a narcissistic jerk, but instead gives other people credit. That's a true sign of greatness.
Like him or not, agree with him or not, the man stuck to his guns. In this day and age, that's a sure way to be inspired. With all of the distractions we all have to deal with, by sticking with what you TRULY want with an unwavering PASSION, Yngwie has shown it IS possible to achieve greatness. Good for him. Great musician!
Yngwie....The first, the pioneer and the most loyal to his influences, who were all around over 200 years ago! Anybody who has half a musical brain, should know he is unique and has not being influenced by Guitarist's of the 20th Century. An absolute master of his craft!
When I heard far beyond the sun (first time I heard YJM) I was blown away completely . It sounded scary to even imagine to play. At that time I had already heard 70s 80s bands. Yngwie Johann Malmsteen is a trademark in the musical world.
Maestro... in addition to being an amazing guitarist, you are fabulous, iconic, singular, unique and genius. His work writes in existence a majestic and unspeakable legacy that will extend through eternity... Long live the "flying swede", Y.J.M. !!! Maestro... além de incrível guitarrista, és fabuloso, icônico, singular, único e genial. Sua obra escreve na existência um legado majestoso e inenarrável que se estenderá pela eternidade... Vida longa ao "sueco voador", Y.J.M. !!!
There are no words yet coined to describe how much I love, and respect this Man, and his music!!! The Niccolò Paganini of our era, in my opinion... "Thank you for your music Maestro...thank you so much" Forever YJM ❤️
Great interview, but the questions are all silent. Luckily we can still absorb lots of great info from Yngwie's answers. Absolutely one of the greatest players and people ever.
Maestro I am so happy, impressed of your progress way beyond the music. Having met you when you were still a teen and our chat of your experiences. Without going into detail i have carried that moment and defense of cruel things said through the years about you. But I knew the truth and as most could never handle the great pressure you were placed within outside of your guitar...Proud to say "No circus bear" love you man and keep it coming.💔🐉🎸
Just a Beautiful Movie Y....Heard the rhythmic tone of Blackstar through the walls of Army Barracks...back in 85?... and just started whipping out blues scaled licks to that tone....and didn't even know...for sure if it was YOU or the Name of the tune...until last year....36 years later... Seen a few Live Performances on UA-cam.... Just Beautiful Y
Thank you for sharing this Sir!!🙏 I believe this is the best instructional/informative video I have ever seen of you!!🙂 and I'm 52 yrs old, lol! As a lifelong guitar lover/player I have followed your career since it's inception. In that phenomenal and storied time, there has been SOOO much gossip, speculation, and media manipulation about you and your influence...and influences. Thank you for sharing this side of you that is so seldom seen.🙏 In my VERY humble opinion, You are easily the Segovia of metal/rock electric guitar.
Yngwie is such an authentic, great, self made guy! People neglect how musical he is, other than being virtuoso beyond this world. His tone is such a beautiful thing in itself - people hold dear SRV for strat tone, I'm willing to argue Yngwie's tone is just as unique and good. The phrasing, the composition. I've seen him live a couple of times and he gave 100%. Nothing but live for Yngwie, a living God.
doing all this on any guitar is one thing, but creating the master pieces he has made on a SCALLOPED fret guitar is in a whole other ballpark. I own 2 scalloped guitars and it is extremely difficult to do what he does on them. his compositions and creations are proof that he was gifted from God to bring such beautiful music to our ears
Wow! I didn't know Yngwie uses Behringer Tube Compressors too in his rack at 17:15. I have one of them but an older model as I have the plastic rotaries under the meter section. If it works, it works.
Gotta give him credit for actually using his signature gear, seems like all of it lol. Tons of artists have signature this, and that and you never ever see them use it.
Loved hearing the curiosity was compounded early on in the 70s by hearing Genesis- that stuff was most definitely flavored by Tony Banks’ choral church music influences.
Thank you very much for the content Yngwie, as far as I'm concerned you are the best guitarist in the world. It's hard to believe I have been a fan of yours for over 35 years! Thanks Again Bro!
I think Hendrix, Van Halen, and this cat Malmsteen are the true game changers in the world of electric guitar players.
Yngwie and Steve Vai have the coolest studios

音楽には育った民族性が出てくるものだと思いました。そして彼は自分のやりたいものをきちんと持っているミュージシャンだと思いました。「自分でやりたいものを見つけろ。」というメッセージ、私の心に響きました。
Most enjoyable interview I've ever watched of Yngwie.
How do you know If a guitarist is the one......when Fender and Marshall endorsed and do everything you tell them....a master of the craft...skill and knowledge on the guitar unmatched...truly and only the G.O.A.T...Yngwie J. Malmsteen
I didnt believe it till I saw someone playing his solos on the piano and violin. All purely classical melodies. Beautiful.

My very first concert as a kid was Yngwie opening for ACDC. My favorite band and my favorite up and coming guitar player
The one and only. Completely unique!! Love Yngwie ✌
Confident, well spoken, still brilliant player.
Great musician.
‘No one ever did that before.’ He is absolutely right, always.
This guy doesn't get enough credit for his art skill and talent and history of himself. He is his own style orchestrated. Fender guitars are the most comfortable. Necks are perfect
The man that transcended & evolved classical music beautifully harmonically.. Absolutely amazing and inspirational. ❤️❤️❤️ from Singapore
I still have same white guitar pick from his concert… warms my heart… true unique genius … first of the first!

Good for him. Great musician!
Theres only one Yngwie Malmsteen. Lets make this perfectly clear.
I can honestly say their was only one Yngwie Malmsteen, haven't come across anyone else with his skill set.
Nobody else will ever sound like Yngwie.
damn his home studio is so cool, rack effects everywhere and medieval swords and shit
YJM loves blues and jazz and can play them well but the core of his playing is rooted in classical and violin as he says.
👍Wow! Sweden folk song is so beautiful from Yngwie’s strat, hope someday he will do an whole album about it👍

We love you Sir!
I agree 100% with Yngwie, his style is original! The one and only Malmsteen! The living legend of neoclassical rock! 🤘🎸

Not a big fan of shredding but gotta recognize what he did for the electric guitar 🎸
Yngwie is truly an original, a force of nature.
3:52 you are that good when you try to mess up on purpose and you can't.
It's good to see that the Maestro has smoothed his edges a little bit since the 90's.
#LongLiveTheMaestro
When I first saw Yngwie in the 80's he was with Alcatraz. I was like what! He was amazing.
Thank you for the decades of inspiration.
That home studio is so cool, epic guitar collection too!

First time seeing this amazing guitarist in a interview. Amazing!!!
Great interview, but the questions are all silent. Luckily we can still absorb lots of great info from Yngwie's answers. Absolutely one of the greatest players and people ever.
Whatever people say about him, he is the best guitarist ever, the best music composer. He is legend
Yngwie, you Magnificent bastard.. This guy is the best guitar player still alive, ROCK ON!!! 🤘🏼 ⚡
Speed king 🎸🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The vibe on this is crazy brooo🪐🪐🪐
Yngwie is a cool dude and a true legend, like him or not! NOBODY has done what he has!
The beast of neoclassical guitar shred.... I love your attitude man....🙏🙏🙏

Saw you many times in Cardiff in the 80's, Wales, even still have the pick you flicked at me.

Geez, even the first song you learned is relatively difficult. Rock on
Yngwie is a prodigy no avg. guitar player could even dream of playing like he does.

Happy for him. In great shape and full of energy. Moreover dude has so many signature product which is crazy.
Yngwieeeee......greetings from Greece 🇬🇷
This is an incredible video, I wish Yngwie would talk more about his echo/reverb setup
Yngwie Malmsteen, the great guitar maestro
Excellent interview
Awesome video beautiful tone, and playing

I really like him as a decent person and great guitarist musician.

One of the great legends, if not the greatest.
Interesting his guitars have all 5 positions pickup switch. When I got his 2012 model, it only had three.
What's the tittle of that first song?
Amazing guy, almost 60 and still going on....respect!
Was listening to Leviathan earlier. Such a great tune. 🤘🤘
Yngwie, Thank you for finally letting us see you play Bass! Love all you share with us! Keep Doing That Voodoo That You Do!!!
I have 2 of your picks!
One from a show @ Harpo’s in Detroit and one from the “I Rock” also in Detroit..
Gotta love the head bust of Bach in the background!
Yngwie forever one ❤
Loved hearing the curiosity was compounded early on in the 70s by hearing Genesis- that stuff was most definitely flavored by Tony Banks’ choral church music influences.

When I heard Yngwie back in the late 80’s early 90’s I honestly didn’t believe it was humanly possible to make a guitar sound like that.
Saludos maestro.y maestros de la guitar
Thank you very much for the content Yngwie, as far as I'm concerned you are the best guitarist in the world. It's hard to believe I have been a fan of yours for over 35 years! Thanks Again Bro!
