@Pitpingas Chips surprisingly he isn't too hard! if you spam normal buster shots at launch octopus, he won't be able to hit you with his normal missile shots. when he does the whirlpool spin attack just make sure you have a fully charged shot while dodging the attack and unleash it on him as soon as he lands again. It takes timing but eventually it makes the fight very easy. if you are brave enough you can fight him first! this is also made easier if you cut his tentacles off with the boomerang cutter. since he will only be able to fire normal missile shots and jump. just dodge and spam normal shots on the ground and you have secured yourself a victory!

I beat all 7 other mavericks without the leg upgrade. Just to show how every stage in X1 is brilliantly made in order to give the players as much selection freedom as possible without compromosing too much difficulty. Some bosses are harder to beat without dashing but its all doable even without their weaknesses. Be it you kinda need to know their attack patterns before hand to pull it off.
For those wondering about the weaknesses of the bosses in Sigma's fortress, they are the following. Vile: Electric Spark Bospider: Shotgun Ice Rangda Bangda: Chameleon Sting D-Rex: Boomerang Cutter Velgauder: Shotgun Ice Sigma (1st form): Electric Spark Sigma (2nd form) Rolling Shield
You can do it without obviously. But you put yourself at a disadvantage because if he has his armor I think he is invulnerable while rolling. If you use Spark to destroy his armor you can get free shots off while he rolls. If you're good enough at dodging his rolling attack though, more power to you.
There are two more bosses in the underwater level: CRUZILIER, the green whale; UTUBOROS, the name of that "Mech Eel" you fought; and ANGLERGE, the huge fish that appears twice.
When I first saw my older brother playing the Storm Eagle level, I noticed that this game had something innovative, the dynamics of the levels and the way the player needs to control the X to defeat bosses is different from other games, which is why Mega Man X is very good

the boss order in this game stuck with me for some reason. Eagle to mammoth to penguin to mandrill to armadillo to octopus to kawunger to chameleon. I remember someone telling me that Storm Eagle took more damage than usual with the mega buster. So thats why he was sort of the starting point.
Whenever 9 year old me played this game i would usually do: Chill Penguin (Buster) Spark Mandrill (Shotgun ice) Armored Armadillo (Electric Spark) Launch Octopus (Rolling Shield with armor upgrade because i sucked lol) Boomer Kuwanger? (Ho *r* ming Torpedo) Sting Chameleon (don't remember boomer's weapon :sad:) Storm Eagle (Chameleon Sting) Flame Mammoth (don't remember storm's weapon neither :sad:) But now since i got the chance to replay it i just pretty much go for whatever i want to, since i no longer suck. (Maybe)

If you go into storm eagle stage, dash off of a wireframe tower you will land by a fire wall. Destroy it using your x buster, go inside, and get the helmet upgrade

Europe had a 1/6 of their speed reduced thanks to PAL and shit, so if you played that Version, the soundtrack here is a bit faster, if that's what you meant. If it isn't, then yeah, it's probably an emulator thing.

If you go into storm eagle stage, dash off of a wireframe tower you will land by a fire wall. Destroy it using your x buster, go inside, and get the helmet upgrade

Europe had a 1/6 of their speed reduced thanks to PAL and shit, so if you played that Version, the soundtrack here is a bit faster, if that's what you meant.
