Bud.....The American Education system is literally designed to fail you and create obedient factory workers. You've never experienced it because you weren't the student who ended up falling victim to it.
The curriculums are getting harder to understand/follow as each year passes and the students affected by them are getting *younger*. If you one day
experience sitting at the homework table with your 1st grader and getting frustrated with how complicated your kid's math homework is now compared to when you were in school, it is because of the above.
