  • Hello There! I decided to knuckle down and make a video of my Tarot de Marseille tips and resources for those looking to learn the system. Please bear in mind that this isn't every resource ever and not even every resource I have ever used, just those that I think will be particularly helpful to beginners.
    I hope you find this video of some use, let me know if you do! Just a little note, I say 'Camoin' a number of times during the traditional tarot recs, when I actually meant to say Conver. See time stamps and resources mentioned listed below...

    I wish I would've had you for a teacher when I was in school! Professor Kel Bearingtons' course on "the metaphysics of English literature" is fab! cool British accent, long flaming red hair wonderful speaking voice and a master of waffling, what more could you ask for in a cool college professor!!

    Vincent Pitisci at tarot maps has been KEY to my learning, especially in keeping it simple. Great videos and books and decks he’s created.
    Truth in Story has great videos on numerology in TdM.

      Vincint Pitisci has so much tarot knowledge and experience under his belt, it's so impressive. I enjoy his videos but haven't checked his channel out for a wee while.
      I really like the look of his decks too, I've had his Black Keys version of his Marseille deck on my wishlist since he released it (so many decks, not enough pennies!)
      I wish I could have added all of them to my video but wanted to keep it (somewhat) succint to avoid overwhelming beginners, but this is exactly why I asked folks to share their resources here in the comments. Thank you for sharing yours Laura.

    Hello, Awesome video, Many Thanks. Regarding Tarot Books, the one that helped me the most in my Tarot studies is not really a Tarot book. More of a Tarot reading based Novel. Italo Calvino, The Castle of Crossed Destinies. A small Novel, but Oooooh Gosh. That little book changed my Tarot Readings and my whole life as a Tarot Reader.

      I've been meaning to pick up a copy of that book for years, I really do need to get around to that because so many tarot readers recommend it.
      The premise sounds so cool too.
      I appreciate you sharing your recommendation, and thank you for watching. :)

    Kelly! I so appreciated this video, because I was struggling to learn TdM through Jodorowsky's book before I knew he was problematic, and was almost thinking of abandoning the system. His book is just 🙃 not great lol. So many weird aspects that put me off. Luckily I have much recs now thanks to this video and others' recs too. So thank you for this!

      Your video was also part of what prompted me to make this. I wrote a long comment on your video but for some reason it hasn't posted (my internet was playing up that morning so it may very well may have dropped out when I pressed reply and I didn't realise). I'm glad you have plenty of recommendations to help you on your TdM journey. x

    Loved this! I fell in love with TdM thanks to Tom Benjamin, fan girl here too. This is exactly the kind of video that I needed when I was first learning TdM. Very solid recommendations . It’s difficult to decide what’s a good reference material when you’re not knowledgeable about the topic and there’s so much rubbish available to confuse the matter more. Trusted content providers can really help newbies with their opinions on good resources. I have a friend who’s just dipping her toes into learning TdM. I’m gonna recommend she add this video to her must-watch list!

    Honestly there is so much wisdom in the methods of Marseille that RWS only readers have no idea about and tend to think they are “wrong.” I feel like… I have t heavily studied marseille but it seems like the marseille traditions don’t really focus on “right or wrong” so much

    • @lilpinkbear
      @lilpinkbear  4 місяці тому

      It truly is so versatile and maleable and magical in a way I did not expect when I first started learning the system. I still love my RWS decks but Marseille has really stolen my heart.

    I am obsessed with the Squid Cake and the Midnight deck. If I were to give a couple of things to someone who said they wanted to learn Marseilles, it would be The Marseilles Tarot Revealed and the Squid Cake, as well as a historical Marseille of some kind. Love this, thanks!

    So many good resources! I have to bookmark this video for future reference as I'm still waiting for the tarot de sirene to come back to print, as it is the only marsielle that speaks to me 😅
    In the meantime I have pip deck that I would like to explore. It doesn't really follow any of the systems, so I don't really know what resource to use to learn it?

    • @lilpinkbear
      @lilpinkbear  Рік тому +1

      Hiya! I'm glad you found this video useful!
      With regards to your pip deck there are possibly two ways to tackle it. You could still read using the Marseille system (for the Trumps, Courts and the numerology for the pips) but you'll have some different image connotations because the pip cards will not have the same decorative details/layout.
      Or, you could look into playing card style meanings and try using those.
      The Untold Tarot book I mention in the video has both more classic Marseille and more playing card/cartomantic options in it, so that could be a good book for you to start with. I hope that helps, I'd love to know how you get.
      Thank you so much for watching. x

    This is unrelated to the content in your video, but please consider wearing a microphone in your videos, I often have to watch your videos with my volume at full blast and even then I still have a hard time hearing you (and yes, I also watch with captions, but those don't always translate accurately). Other than that, thank you for creating this helpful resource video for TdM.

    • @lilpinkbear
      @lilpinkbear  Рік тому

      Thank you for your feedback, I've had several folks pointing this out to me lately and I apologise that the volume seems so low. I've been having problems with my sound these past few month, despite using the same microphone that I upgraded to a couple of years back (and it having been fine before). I've even switched to trying just the webcam mic to see if that helps. I can't seem to figure out why it's dropped in volume but am trying to get to the bottom of it.
      I'm glad you found the TdM video helpful.

    Looks like you had a similar experience with YBD and Caitlin Matthews that I’m having. I like the open reading, but am having a lot easier time with Untold Tarot. Coming from RWS I’m finding pip decks less difficult than I thought they’d be. Just requires a slightly different approach, especially if you’re including the pips and court cards, and not just reading with the trumps.

    • @lilpinkbear
      @lilpinkbear  Місяць тому

      Yay for Untold Tarot, honestly, that book got me so excited for reading pips. I know it covers a few different ways of viewing/reading them but that's what I enjoyed about the book. My current fave TdM book is the seperate guidebook you can buy for the Gay Marseille by Charlie Claire Burgess, that book kind of blew my mind and gave me really refreshing and exciting ways to see the Marseille. Always stuff to learn, right?! Tarot is so much fun for that.
      Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. x

    • @lilpinkbear

      Hi Laura. The spread I mentioned is the Tirage en Croix, Marilyn from Tarot Clarity has a couple of excellent videos where she demonstrates the spread:

      and Serge Pirotte has a great blog post about it too:
      cartomancier.com/en/2018/06/23/french-cross/
      And yes, the New Choice TdM was my first ever Marseille deck and what sent me down this wonderful rabbit hole. I don't use it as much as I used to as I have other decks I reach for more.
