Fantastic video of an important manufacturer. Ever since I held my M10 Monochrome, my first ever Leica, I have fallen in love with photography again. The, “that’s a nice camera!” Never gets old. Great video.
Brilliant video, Alan. Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Will never be able to afford a Leica camera but can always dream of owning one (or relabeling the one I use)😊 And a Leica watch!!!! They are the epitome of perfection.
Just amazing tour and history of Lieca. That was very special access you had. Thanks for sharing with us. Now if I only could afford a M. I finally got my Q2M and that is a jewel for me. Still, Monochrom calls so strong and your work inspires me.
VERY interesting video. Thank you for the Leica tour. Not having ever owned one I found the information about the camera and the watch fascinating. Very much looking forward to your shots on the street with the 1600mm.😅
Lovely video and nice view of Leica. I also use the M10M. Love it to bits. First time I actually really love a digital camera the same way I love my Hasselblad that I have shot for 20 years. I am not a fan of the shutter operation or sound on the M11. Perhaps one gets used to it?
Did Alan ask them why repairs are taking 12 months? Did Alan ask them why camera body paint just flakes off? Did Alan ask them why the M6 reissue scratches film? Did Alan ask them why the SL2 was allowed to randomly wipe memory cards for the better part of a year? Did Alan ask them why the M11 has continued to be plagued by random lock up issues?
Is Alan’s channel a news channel? Is this a place for investigative journalism? All products have problems here and there. Problem with the internet is that it seems to amplify negativity. Just look at any social media. Not saying there aren’t problems with Leica, or any other camera. But if you have 99 people that have no problems but 1 who does, you can be sure that’s the guy that’s going to go online and write about it.
It would be interesting to know how many lenses are made per day. I saw one estimate of 10,000 lenses per year, which would be about 43 per day (figuring in weekends and vacation). They run batches so they will make so many 50mm Summicrons and then switch the machines to make 35mm. I read that their rejection rate for their lenses is very high so they may only pass 43 lenses out of a much higher number through quality control per day.
Every time I hear someone say, "Photography is dead", I'm going to duct-tape them to a chair and make them watch this. For the rest of us, thank you, Alan, for a fascinating geeky-peek behind the curtain 😊
Nice watches but for the money I would go for the brands that you know are better investments that said in years to come they might be up there but time will tell
No camera brand makes a photo, photographers do. No cooking pan makes a menu, a cook does. No pen writes a Nobel Price, talented writers do. No tennis brand ever produces an ace, talented players do….and so on. I won a few photo competitions with a basic camera…and so on.
You're absolutely right! But you mustn't forget the pleasure of taking photos, and I'm talking about the tool that will help you enjoy photography... And taking photos with a Leica is an extraordinary experience. But if you're bad at photography, a Leica won't make you a better photographer.
There is a certain mystique about Leica cameras. If you think about it, most of the 20th century was documented by war photographers, using the rangefinder camera produced by Leica. I saved up for many years for my first M camera and then later SL cameras and Q cameras. They are a fine works of art worth every penny. Yes, someone with an iPhone can take a masterpiece of a photo. There is just something special about using like a that produces magic without software interfering.
I really like this channel but this was one of the weaker videos for me. I own a couple of Leicas and they’re amazing tools but I’m not at all interested in the watches in the slightest - feels like Alan had to talk about them to get the access for this video. I most enjoy Alan’s discussions of technique and approach - he makes me want to go out and shoot after watching his channel. This video didn’t do that.
Fantastic video of an important manufacturer. Ever since I held my M10 Monochrome, my first ever Leica, I have fallen in love with photography again. The, “that’s a nice camera!” Never gets old. Great video.
Yes they are very inspiring tools indeed 🙏🏼
Allan heard we wanted more videos and took its personally 😂
2 videos in 2 days.
Haha yep 😄👍🏼
Fantastic video!!!
Superb viewing.
Brilliant video, Alan. Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Will never be able to afford a Leica camera but can always dream of owning one (or relabeling the one I use)😊 And a Leica watch!!!! They are the epitome of perfection.
So much truth in Dr. Kaufmann’s statement about Leica people. I’ve made so many good friends in the Leica community. Great video Alan!
Cheers! And yes same here!
Wonderful insight into the Leica Time Machine , onwards and upwards Alan.
Thanks John ❤

Thanks Chris. Enjoy the Q2M, a very capable camera!

Fabulous video! Photographer but also such a brilliant journalist!
Cheers!
a fascinating video, I've always aspired to a Leica but never took the plunge , now at age 81 I'm rethinking time and priorities ...
Much appreciated
Another brilliant video, but I must say the watch shots are breathtaking.
Cheers, it’s always fun combining my style with different genres 😊

I love the insights. But I am hoping for more Photography in the wild content ;)
Thanks. Yes there will be more of that very soon 👍🏼
0:05 "Never mind me, I'm just taking my chonky Leica for a walk, it needs the exercise." 🤣
That 1600mm is 60kg 😂
@ omg that’s eve heavier than I would have guessed 🤣😆🤣
8:00 "Sorry, say your name again?"😂😂😂

It just smells bad

Duh
Yes, it´s not necessary to use a Leica to make good photos, but why not. May be you have won some more competitions. 😅
Whatever. You are just jealous.
10 microns is sloppy
😀
it must be christmas. 2 in 2 days!!
🎅🏼🎉

It’s such a pity they don’t hire more technicians to speed up the servicing at Wetzlar. It really lets the support down
Hey Alan i looked up the price of your man bags , makes the cameras look cheap 😂
