On a sidenote, it's amazing how big a part of Homestuck its music really is. It's Showtime, which invites the player/reader, it's Doctor, Atomic Ebopyre, Endless Climb and Gardener/The Beginning of Something Really Excellent that told us about characters more than any words could, the Explore that kickstarted the whole thing into complicated convoluted time-loopey action, showed thet there's a lot more to it than just some kid stuck in his house... The soundtrack here is definitely the part of the story, not some crappy afterthought. The music team are real mages. This obviously includes George. It's astoundingly awesome from the begining to the end. As the whole story is.
Rest in peace, George. Your music's meant so much to me ever since I heard Doctor for the first time. It's gotten me through rough times, it's brought me joy. I hope you've found rest.
It's soon going to be a year since you passed away. Thank you for your amazing work on Homestuck, and inspiring the youth. May God bless your soul, rest in piece.
bruh. I just want you to know that even thought this comic has been around for seven years Doctor is my absolute favorite. Doctor is my favorite out of at least like 2 thousand songs from this comic.
+George Buzinkai very powerful song. fills me with a "sensa wundah" and adventure like no other song (not even just HS). Reminds me of when I would play "Zelda" in the woods with my brothers years ago.
When you passed away, i just had started reading homestuck. Didnt know anything about it, and went into it blind. This song inspired me so much. I hope i couldve gotten the chance to thank you.
Doctor and Showtime have that particular power to instantly recall one's to the moment they were first heard. The wonder I felt at first seeing the Land Of Wind And Shade remains intact in my mind, summoned each time I hear this song.
We'll miss you forever, Buzinkai. You've inspired countless artists through music like this. It is undoubtedly responsible for capturing the hearts that grew to love homestuck so much. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Rest in Peace, but I wish you were here.
I think if you were still around, you'd feel pride to know that I've started using what time I'm able to try to learn making music, and that this is the FIRST piece I used to help familiarize myself with the program I got. I made a pretty faithful orchestral-sounding cover of Doctor in Mixcraft 9 Pro. It was a really great learning experience. Rest in peace, rest in power.
When I first heard this song in the flash, it cemented the moment when I became a homestuck. The music had a mystical feel, but also gave me a sense of nostalgia. I hadn't ever played cave story, I still haven't, but the song gave me the same feeling I had when I played Yoshi's Story, on the cave levels. The music isn't that similar, but it gave me those same feelings.
Hey. It's almost the tenth anniversary. My friend proposed that if nothing real big happens on it, that we'll do a re-read. And I went to say that I'd get real emotional when I got to act 4. I'm already getting very emotional. We miss you so much.
This song is very interesting. By the time I got to LOWAS, I'd already been sucked in, cemented by 'Sburban Jungle'. But it was this song that really stuck out from my experience. I remember loving the song, but hating how it looped. In any case, it's the one song from Homestuck that always comes back to me, and each time it comes back, I love it even more. It's so mysterious and inviting. And I really have to say my favorite part is the arpeggio. That's the part that expresses just how large LOWAS (and by extension, everything else) can be. You did a fantastic job of creating a simple song that says so much. It may be Cave Story fanart, but it still stays true to Homestuck, which itself has spawned countless pieces of fanart. One more thing: I'm utterly shocked that this video only has just above a thousand views. You'd think the meat of the fandom would have found it by now.
Doctor has always been my favorite song from the Homestuck soundtracks. I remember when I first loaded that flash and realized that the story was about to get a lot bigger. It just has that calming and mysterious atmosphere that gave Homestuck its extra level of depth. Great job George!
I don't usually write comments for things like this. In some cases I didn't get the chance. But you gave a lot to the world, and I wish you'd gotten to really experience it as yourself. RIP Usagi. I dunno which world is after this one, but I hope you're you there, and happy.
George, it's really nice to hear from you again after the whole 'house burned down' thing happened. Hope you're doing ok. My question is, what do you think about the Doctor remix 'Green Ghost'? It's my favorite Homestuck song and it always felt like an exponential version of the effect Doctor has on me. Lots of crazy stuff in the background too.
This is utterly fantastic. Thanks for explaining it to us! There is something really amazing about Doctor as it really is sort of the quintessential song of the early acts of Homestuck. It sort of just boils down the whole fantastical and cosmological experience into sound. Whats extra amazing about this song is that its practically a new Cave Story song. This song is so good it could be be on the Cave Story OST. There have been a ton of remixes of Cave Story songs but nobody *makes* new cave story songs, nobody really has the talent. This song is accomplishment in both media, it's utterly fantastic, thanks George for the amazing work. Keep us updated if you need help with the website.
I requested to be a part of the Cave Story remake for DS and 3DS, actually submitting several examples of my work with remixing pixel's work. But I never got much back from them other than Pixel saying he really liked my stuff, haha.
That's fantastic that Pixel said he liked your work. That's a one of the dammed near highest honors in my book. Have you looked into doing music for any other game projects? Are you going to do more homestuck themed songs?
Kardlonoc I've been trying, but to no avail, really. It's been a rough past year, so actually trying to write music in general has been a hard thing to do. I plan on writing more, but I'm not sure if it's going to be related to homestuck, I'm planning on releasing a personal album.
I find now matter how tough things are, I force myself to work a little each day on something creative. Even if its not all that great, I feel worse if I don't do something, and its best to keep that engine going so to speak than waiting for some non-existent perfect time to work. I am personally looking forward to the next album. How many songs do you have planned out and are they all going be done in Pxtone? I certainly think it doesn't need to be related to homestuck, rather if Hussie or the fans want it can be related to it.
Doctor is my favorite letmotif in Homestuck, and I always love it whenever I hear it pop up. I never knew it was inspired by Cave Story though. I guess I really should play that game. :D Thanks for composing such an amazing track! (Also, I always found Doctor sounding oddly similar to the cross-examination music in the first Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney game. What a funny coincidence lol)
Oh my gosh, this is so friggin cool! Doctor is one of my favorite songs from Homestuck. Seeing this process is such a cool insight into your creative process. I can't believe that this had so many instruments from Cave Story! No wonder it has such a perfect video game feel to it, I should've picked up on it earlier, haha! It's such a great song. Thank you for making this video!
doctor is technically not my favorite homestuck song (that spot is reserved for black or eternity served cold) yet, doctor is the song that gets the strongest emotional reaction from me. thank you.
this song (and video) was one of those that got me into making music in pxtone in the first place, it's incredibly important to me and my musical development. thank you for everything, i hope youre doing well wherever you are now
This is such an excellent song. I was brought here by this guy who brought my work and your work together. It helped me find this song. Had it stick in my head all day and I don't care.
after watching this, i noticed that during the beginning of savior of the waking world there is the heartbeat monitor notes, but then they stop, and the rest of the song picks up. i found this incredibly fitting, as this is the moment when john dies and ascends.
I'm a great fan of all your work, you have made some really amazing stuff in the past, including Doctor especially! My personal favourite remains Explore, it's just so damn catchy and amazing to listen to, and it was accompanied by an amazing flash as well. The song remained my top favourite Homestuck song for a very long time (and it still is very high, only bested by some songs like Descend or Eternity Served Cold). Thanks to both Explore and the accompanying flash, I immediately realised that the rest of Homestuck was going to be an amazing thing. So, thanks for all you've done for us!!
God I miss George and I didnt even know them. Sometimes I wonder if things would have been different if one of us reached out to George. If theres an afterlife I hope they're in the best one possible. George deserves good things.
Hi! I'm a huge fan of Doctor, and many of your other works. I want to make music, but I can't do it well. Do you have any tips? Thank you. I'm a huge fan.
Yeah i tried to do that part you were talking about being really hard in a remix and i tried to make it work as best as i can so im going to post that song on my channel as soon as i can. Its called "Windy Skies and Shady Lakes".
If anybody has the music sheets for it in a form that could be performed on a keyboard (not necessarily the arpeggio part, it's way above my abilities), I would be most grateful :)
Hi, again. Coming back with a question, this time. You said that this song is inspired by "Moonsong" (and no doubt it is). I've noticed that the repeated notes in the lowest layer that you mentioned "just to make the song interesting" are very similar to what Moonsong has when it repeats the refrain. I'm wondering, is that also a more direct callback, or was that on accident?
Doctor, Definitely my favorite Homestuck song. Hell I actually set it as my ringtone. It just sounds so... I don't really know. It seems mellow and energetic at the same time if that even makes sense. Basically, It's my favorite Homestuck track. You did a great fucking Job.
George!!! It's so awesme to hear from you again. Also, one little request: could ou please do the same for Explore? Almost every remix or cover or sample of that song I hear sounds off, although on the first sight it's a pretty easy song. It must be something people just don't get about it.
As much as I want to make it open, I can't, since technically, the creation I made is owned by the company What Pumpkin Studios. However, I can talk about it to no end.
George Buzinkai Yeah, I had a feeling. It's all good, I'll just come back to this vid whenever I'm referencing Doctor in the future hehe! And I can't wait to hear your new stuff too. c:
