  • This video is my new beginning with UA-cam uploads. I've now equipped myself with some basic equipment to make proper vlogs and I decided to do a brief review of my Triumph Tiger Explorer.
    Leave your thoughts on what I can do to improve my content and any suggestions for what you might like to see.

    Thanks for bringing me along! The new camera is great- very clear. I want to see one of your favorite places to ride and/or a brand new path for you. Off roading sounds fun, but I am much too chicken to try that on a motorcycle. BTW you were making me very nervous standing up on that bike, those seats are there for a reason! LOL

      Sara Moot you can get the chance to check it out soon (I hope)! Don't worry, we can sit down. Off road trail video coming up!

    Nice review of the TEX, Keith. The video is clear & crisp with little or no pixilation and the audio is sharp & clean. I guess all I need to do now is subscribe. Ride safe, bro!

    Nice review of your bike! Can you share more details about your GPS device? Maybe I'll buy one, currently using my phone.

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures
      @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures  7 років тому +1

      Dimitris Zotos Sure, Dimitris! I use the Garmin Zumo 660LM. It is a motorcycle specific GPS unit which is hardwired directly into my bike and activated by the ignition. It isn't the newest, biggest, flashiest GPS on the market, but it does everything I want and does it quite well. My only complaint on this GPS unit is the screen washes out a little in direct sunlight, but I never seen a phone or GPS which didn't. Since the 660 is older now, you can get it fairly cheap also. Hope that info helps! Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the review - really enjoyed it - Q: which camera / setup do you use (=where exactly is the camera mounted) and how do you get such great sound? Would love to make such good videos of my own rides - thanks!

      W V hey, I really appreciate the kind words and your questions. It took me a while to get my setup to where my videos came out clear and audible. My final and current setup is a HJC full face helmet, a GoPro Hero 3+ Silver with GoPro Bluetooth backpack that runs through a Sena 20S communication device. I used to get a horrific wind-type noise and couldn’t figure out why and it cost me numerous videos which were useless because they sounded so bad. I’m about to change helmets but I’ll be keeping the audio/video equipment. The problem turned out to be a flawed Sena firmware update. You have to use an older version to eliminate the noise.
      Oh and the camera is chin bar mounted directly in the middle. I like that point of view best.

    • @TheQ427
      @TheQ427 6 років тому

      Hi TEX would you mind to show the Setup in one of your next Videos? I haven´t found a chin mounting from GoPro and wonder how you managed that plus i don´t get how all this stuff works together (eg. how you get the Sound in the video-file. Thanks a lot!

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures
      @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures  6 років тому

      W V sure, I can do that. I think I already have a video on my home page that shows my setup but that was a while ago. I’ll do something updated. Subscribe to my page and press the bell button so you get the alert for when I post it. I’ll have it up over the next couple of days. Thanks!

    This is a great review. I'm considering buying a first generation Tiger Explorer, and you provided some very helpful information. Thanks so much.
    Having lived in Florida for 30 years, you've lost all of your upstate New York accent! I still hear a little bit of it on some words though. Did you grow up in the eastern part of the state?

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures
      @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comments! I suppose only a person from the north would recognize my accent slipping. Anyone from Florida always tells me my accent is weird. Anyway I’m from the area where Fort Drum is located.

      @@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures I moved away a long time ago too, but I'm also from central New York (Finger Lakes region) originally. I bet you don't miss the lake effect snow! But man, the salmon fishing on the Black River is some of the best in the world. Thanks again for the awesome review about your Tiger.

    Great video 👍 Gloves 🧤! Why aren’t you wearing any? Kids watching might think it’s ok not to wearing any!
    I’ve got the same bike and love it 😍 I agree with you that it’s on the heavy side and on sand I wouldn’t chance it 😐 green lanes and gravel tracks ok and like you I’m mostly use it for road work.
    Thanks again for your video 😎 ride safely 👍

    Good review, thanks. I took a 2012 Explorer for a test ride a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately the back road was damp so I had to go easy on the throttle. As I was riding back through town I was getting a fair amount of heat coming from the engine, do you experience this with your bike? Cheers.

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures
      @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures  6 років тому

      TheSteps62 the engine heat issue comes up from time to time with other guys too. I personally do not have an issue with it, although the fan does kick off some heat if I find myself sitting in traffic. Now I live in Florida, so heat to me might be quite a bit different for you depending on your location. Triumph has made some changes to the bike in newer model years but I’m not sure the problem has been totally eliminated. The 2012 and 2014 year bikes are the same however. Just keep in mind the 1200cc engine will run hot and the heat tends to be up high near your thighs/knees. If you found it to be an issue on a test ride, you might never get over it. I recommend the bike though!

      Thanks for the info and your quick reply. The heat was hitting my legs but not all of the time, not sure if it's a deal breaker or not, it's a great bike! I'm also looking at getting a test ride on the Tiger 800xc asap. Cheers.

    Is a 2014 1200 worth 7800$? Looking at one this weekend 2400 miles

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures
      @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures  5 років тому +2

      Fisherman978 according to Kelly blue book this morning, a standard 2014 is worth $8185. This of course isn’t the full picture but if the one you’re looking at has only 2400 miles, I’d say yes. If I were shopping today and came across that bike, I would probably buy it knowing what I do about mine.

    Thanks for the Video. 2018 hows the explorer doing? I'm going to test ride one with 7K on it on 3/13/2018. Any issues I need to be aware of? Appreciate any advice. Thanks.
    How do you like this bike for riding 2 people? Thanks

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures
      @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures  6 років тому +2

      Freddy D there aren’t any real issues I can tell you about. I still have this bike and enjoy it. I did experience a transmission issue though. 2nd and 6th gears went bad due a faulty selector fork. It’s a known issue so look into it on your test bike. Also some of the 2012-2013 models had faulty heads. Triumph warranty fixes those but by now you probably won’t find many out there. Good luck and I hope you find something you like.

    • @iftogo
      @iftogo 4 роки тому +1

      @@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures Thanks for the solid review and the info on those problematic items; the 2nd gear seems to be an issue on the 2012s and 2013s too, according to some of the other reviews and forums I've been researching this bike on.

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures
      @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures  4 роки тому

      ira farnham yes, it plagues the early models, Gen 1 at least. I’m not sure how Triumph fixed it on later models (if they even did). I have to admit, after having mine fixed under warranty, I still occasionally have the same problem. I try to be deliberate in my shifting as much as I can so it doesn’t need repairing again. Overall, i still love my bike! Thanks for the comment!

    • @iftogo
      @iftogo 4 роки тому +1

      @@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures That being known, would you trust it on a long international trip? Can you push it through the gear selector issue - up and down shift it to other gears, beyond the effected gears - or is this a get you stuck on the side of the highway issue and have it hauled to the mechanic level issue?

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures
      @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures  4 роки тому +2

      ira farnham I’ll put it to you like this: even though I’ve had the issue, and sometimes it mildly reappears, I’d think nothing of jumping on my bike tomorrow to ride it anywhere. I have never once been stranded on it. Even though I don’t have the time to ride it like I once did, I put 31,000 miles on it the first 3 years I owned it. The gear box is merely a quirk to me. If I’m cognizant while riding, I can manage it well.

      Chris Brown yes it does! I appreciate your input! I was still breaking a habit developed by riding a BMW with a dry clutch. They preferred high RPMs instead of cruising along or the splines would go bad on the shaft.

      Phil Clarke if you can’t make it down your driveway without possibly crashing, you might want to consider a new means of recreation.
