Awesome! Im new to commander and i really like that you give options on the upgrades. Leaves some brewing to the player.
Would love it if you could add a indicator in the top right taht says budget or expensive depending on the cost of the card, just a suggestion
Even though at 4 mana, I really feel like Elusive Tormentor will be pretty good with Otrimi
Thanks for the suggestion. Elusive Tormentor has been AWESOME! Glad you said that and I was glad to finally grab one out of my pile of 6 that haven't been used for much if anything the last few years.
Relentless dead is a very funny pull back because everything that was mutated on it comes back to your hand when you pull relentless dead
Great video, great channel. Keep up the good work!
Nice vid btw can't wait to build this deck, i love the Precons even though they can be underpowered sometimes
Great video, definetly helped me figure out what to do with the deck.
I really want to build a lands matters deck for Tayam. I think that Overgrown Estate along with Sanguine Bond would make for a great combo
Have you try to add creatures with infect...it's sick
What would be the win cons for this one
Otrimi 😉
@@CommandValley so beat them out with commander damage
@@pitzenberger90 That's what I aimed for with my build. He's actually a pretty terrifying voltron commander. I'm not a big fan of voltron but I have had a blast with Otrimi and pretty consistently kill someone with commander damage. Just gotta protect him really REALLY well.
@@pitzenberger90 Otrimi is often hexproof or indestructible, and bugger than almost all commanders and has pseudo haste. You can easily kill somebody in 3 swings due to the counters you can get on otrimi
Great video and super helpfull
Thank you 😁🤙🏽
WTF! Heroes' Bane is bonkers good in this deck, especially to mutate Otrimi onto. I can't believe you suggested taking it out. 😥
Unfortunately the Tomebound Lich interaction doesn't work this way. Otrimis ability needs to target something when it enters the stack. So if u stack it before the Lichs ability u won't have the card discarded yet, and its the same case if u swap the order (need to target before the draw and the discard resolves). Ofc it doesn't mean its a bad card in this deck, but u need to have some mutate cards already in the graveyard (what can happen from the Lichs etb).
Good catch. You are absolutely right. I have actually had this come up in a game and we played it correctly but I completely forgot that I said this in the video. Haha. Thanks for watching and for your comment.
Why is Animist's Awakening is a bad card? Because from my point of view I don't see the downside of the card. I am not done with my Kalamax deck and I was thinking of putting it in that deck and looking for to owning a snapcaster mage soon
Great question. Animist's Awakening is definitely not a bad card. It really depends on the deck you run it in. It would fit much better into a Kalamax deck where you can copy it to get a bunch of lands and then storm out on the next turn or cast something crazy like Expropriate so I'd say it's a good choice for your deck. I really wanted to drop the average CMC of all the ramp in the deck so that I could get Otrimi out swinging faster. I wouldn't feel comfortable casting Animists Awaking for anything less than X=3 or 4 and it would feel really bad to whiff. I would definitely consider it for a deck where I am stacking/knowing the top few cards of my library and/or copying spells, though.
I hope that answers your question! Snapcaster is awesome! I hope you enjoy it.
If you mutate an evoked creature, do you still sacrifice the creature?
I live in Provo my guy haha.
great vid
Do you know, if path of ancestry works when you mutate a creature?
I am not sure, I mean you cast it, but on the other hand the body doesn't hit the board
All in all a great video. Got some nice inclusions for my deck
Thanks for the comment, Chris! From studying up on the comprehensive rules it looks like casting a creature for its mutate cost creates a “mutate creature spell”, which means that effects that trigger when you cast a creature trigger off of mutate casts. Since Path of Ancestry checks when the creature is cast and not when it ETB’s, it looks like it works to me!
Thanks for the answer. Then I will play it so. That makes the creature choice more importantly
@@genbu2870 it's not worth it, about 60% of mutate cards are beasts but unless 90% of your creatures are one type, path is a dead card.
@ in the worst case its a multi color land.
I'll try it and when it's not good I change it
Strrax can get Ridiculous in my opinion
Kaleb here. I just replied to XenoFireStar who said the same thing and I realized playing a version of this upgrade on Friday that you are totally right. I put it back in for testing. ;)
What's that?
sorry but 1 thing i have to disagree is removing starrix and archapalegor both cards are mutate staple and by far the strongest mutate trigger of all time their are expensiv but the eff is just that strong
Archi is only good if you've got a massive mutate stack. Sleep is objectively better in every way. It costs like 20 mana less to tap the entire board for another turn.
@ Sleep is a 1 time use also keeping the mutate Stack high which Most mutated Deck lick to do archi is oblegitivly better in mutate Deck cause of the plusses
I quit watching when he said to remove Starrix. Man hasn't seen what that thing does to know it is WELL worth its high cost.
Kaleb here. Funny you should say that. I just played a version of this upgrade for the first time on Friday and there were multiple instances where I thought, "Holy crap the Starrix would have been great right there." and I actually put it back in for testing. The main reason why I took it out at first is that I wanted to focus on Otrimi as much as possible and I realized I can still do that and mutate the Starrix onto a huge Otrimi pile later in the game for additional blockers, ramp, etc. Thanks for watching and for the feedback (you should finish the video). Lol.
Additionally, off-camera our meta is a little bit quicker (usually) than what you'd see on our gameplay videos and I thought it would just be way too late in the game to play Starrix but I was very wrong, I think. I'll let you know how testing it goes.
@@CommandValley I did come back and watch the rest of the video, and yeah, most of the rest of what you have here makes a lot of sense to me. I do question taking out the ooze since indestructible is so good. I understand that you are not likely to get it turn 3, but even so. Also, Mythos of Brokkos pairs really well with Brokkos since you can tutor Brokkos to graveyard, then get 2 from the graveyard. It essentially is a 4 CMC spell that says draw 3 cards with mutate. Or you can go find Starrix. Poliwag Symbiote makes your mutate spells cheaper and loots, helping to draw more mutate.
@@XenoFireStar Awesome! Good to hear. Yeah, I don't know how I forgot to talk about the Pollywag Symbiote but it did make it onto the Upgrade Decklist. My actual Otrimi deck is quite a bit different than the list I provided a month ago. I was happy to open Mythos of Brokkos in my prerelease prize support and a Brokkos in the box my wife got me for my birthday. All three were must-have adds. =) I will eventually post my personal Otrimi decklist either here in the comment section or in the description. Thanks again for the watch! Have fun with the cards from the new set!
@@CommandValley Hey, Kaleb. Let's us know when you post your upgraded personal list. I got curious about it, haha. And nice video btw! Thanks for the content.
plague stinger ;)
Spicy. I'm seriously considering adding infect but I was already working on brewing another Sultai infect deck before this came out. Stop tempting me! Lol.
The great henge doesn't seem very good. When you mutate, a creature isn't entering the battlefield. You'll get some triggers, but not that many.
Never remove mutate cards from the deck. Never. It's the main theme of the deck. It doesn't matter how good or bad the card is. You don't have that many options. So you need as many as possible.
