- Lisa Gade reviews the Fujifilm X-T10 mirrorless ILC (interchangeable lens camera). This is a compact, high quality camera with Fuji's X-Trans CMOS II 16MP APS-C sensor with EXR processor II. The $799 Fuji X-T10 has the same imaging hardware and quality as the more expensive X-T1, with a slightly smaller and lighter body and no weather-proofing. The camera has a 3” LCD, a 3.26 million dot OLED EVF and full manual controls with a shutter speed dial, EV dial and drive mode dial (there’s no ISO dial unlike the XT-1). It can shoot 1080p video at 60fps in MOV format, and it shoots JPEG and RAW in photo mode. It also has an excellent auto mode and Fujifilm’s film simulations of Provia, Velvia, Astia and Chrome films. The X-T10 boasts a fast new auto-focus system with focus-tracking (49 point single point, 77 point for Zone and Wide Tracking modes). It has both PDAF and contrast focus detection. The camera has a built-in flash, WiFi and geotagging. We look it at with the 18-55mm f/2.8-4 optional kit zoom lens, 55-200mm lens and 35mm f/1.4 prime. Honest, detailed and illustrated, high quality review Lisa. I would prefer more photos but you more than compensate with the amount of detailes you discussed. Not only about the camera, but about the lenses as well. Which are equally, if not more, important.

10:15 Its not all doom and gloom about that flash as you can put it in commander mode meaning the built-in flash can be used to control optional remote flash units such as the Yongnuo flash units which are reasonably priced and have good slave functionality.
I'd really like to see one of your more comprehensive 'smackdown' videos of this and the a6000. I know you touched on it in the review here, but since these two are direct competitors I think a full comparison would be really helpful.

I just purchased the X-T10 today and I'm impressed. My only gripe is with the flimsy lens cap. Very easy to slip off. So I would recommend what I did and replace the cap with the Sensei screw on threaded lens. Nice and tight.

Even though the APS-C sensor isn't quite as big as a full frame, it's still a large sensor. Way bigger than a point and shoot. Huge step up from point and shoot.
Being a slow-talking Brit, Lisa came as a bit of a culture shock for me when I first saw her reviews.
I already own a Fuji X-E2 and knew I could rely on Lisa to not only talk very fast - but probably also talk me into buying an XT-10. I do reckon Lisa has been a bit harsh on built-in the flash. I think it will work quite well to do fill-in for faces on a sunny day. If you know you're planning to do that - you might need to buy a neutral density filter in order to get the sync speed you need. You could also improvise a little playing card size diffuser panel to soften it up. I've seen some really ugly stuff made for bigger flashes and you would not need anything like that - just stick to small and simple! I am gonna try this myself. If you're happy doing manual focus, you could always save 800 bucks on the 56mm f1.2 by using your old Nikkor 50mm f1.4 Ai or non-Ai on a metabones (or cheaper) adaptor for portraits. If you get the G type adaptor then the Nikkor 35mm f1.8DX and 40mm f2.8DX micro would make a nice cheap candid portrait lenses for slower more methodical shooting. You can shoot the 40mm micro wide open with no fear of losing quality.
I'm assuming the 'lower quality' kit lens you're referring to is the 16-50mm. It's actually a very good lens, I've used both the 18-55 and the 16-50 and other than the metal build vs plastic and the wider aperture on the 18-55 there isn't much to separate them. Image quality is almost identical and having and extra 2mm at the wide end and a much smaller and lighter lens makes it well worth considering over the 18-55.
Disagree Strongly. I've owned both 16-50 and 18-55 and I'd say the 18-55 image quality is much better. I've not tried the 16-55 f2.8.
the extra stop of light, better depth of field, metal build and higher image quality justifies the 18-55's price! It's not known as the best kit lens ever made for nothing :D
I just picked one of these up at a great price and going to pair it with my 27mm 2.8 for my grab and go camera. I have an X-Pro3 and X100V and going to give them a break...
Great review as always - I have the X100 X100s X20 Xt1 - so I do enjoy the Fuji colors - but I have my gripes with Fuji :) so really have gone more into the M43 format -
few of my issues is - No IS in primes and no IBIS - lenses are nice but quite costly although not as bad as Zeiss :) - No Touch LCD and Touch Shutter - and yes I prefer a Mode Dial - the shutter speed dial is not enough refined so often I end up going into LCD to modify - I think I would miss the grip from the XT1 - video still not up to speed -
So to me the biggest is really the no IS in primes - Olympus just got me hooked - and yes lots of Purists will say that there is no need for IS in primes :) I just happened to disagree - so if I had decided to go fully with Fuji I would get the X-t10 as a backup for my Xt1 - but no cigar until I see IBIS from Fuji
Nice video as always, my compliments! If I can add one thing, I just discovered That ISO is not an acronym, so it shouldn't be pronouced with separeted letters, but like "Iso", just one word. I was surprised, but it true :D

I would like to ask, if video wasn't a big requirement, would you recommend the A6000 or the X-T10? I would be using the kit lens, other old vintage manual lenses with adapters.

MobileTechReview: It's not weird at all that the 18-55 2.8-4.0 lens doesn't have aperture markings, considering it's not a fixed aperture lens. So it obviously can't show the A-numbers on the lens. It would work ofc if the ring turned by itself when zooming in, but I have never used a lens like that.
***** Variable aperture zooms sometimes have numerical values (aperture numbers) on the aperture ring (the camera will simply select lowest possible aperture number if the ring is set to an impossibly low value). Fujinon lenses are inconsistent-- some of their constant aperture zooms still lack aperture markings.
versus Sony Alpha 6000 and Olympus OM E-M10 Mark II which one is better overall? Which better to buy?

William Lee I'm with you on this even though is only two thirds from an inch sensor and noise is terrible in high ISO, I see that camera as an excellent close-up and macro camera but also as a good street and general phtography if you stay on 100 ISO. But for the kind of photography I do, that will be an amazing camera with those excellent film simulations 500px.com/funlw65
Still, I can't see Lisa reviewing that camera considering that she is a full-frame addict but it will be a pleasant surprise if I'm proven wrong.
peasant vasea Now, I have reviewed a few APS-C cameras including this one and the Sony a6000 :). Oh, and the 1" sensor Sony RX10 and Canon G7X too. Then there's the micro four thirds Lumix LX100 review (love that camera). You never know what might happen next... (said with a devilish giggle). I absolutely love APS-C when I need a long zoom range, a smaller kit or easy deep depth of field. And 1" sensors can be serious stuff for shooting video, but I personally don't enjoy them much for photography. But I do understand that 1" sensor cameras are more affordable and have a definite place in the world of photography.

But do any modern variable aperture zooms actually have aperture numbers on them? Or was that back in the old days? I actually didn't know about such zooms (or haven't thought about it). Seems smarter to just leave it blank though (and be glad that there even is an A-ring, rare these days), since the aperture can be seen on the LCD and in the EVF.

Hi, good review;) I'm currently looking for a new camera. I just can't decide between the xt10 and the x100t... I don't care about the fixed focal lenght. It's just about the body. Which would you recommend?
Three BIG differences: 1) The OVF with small EVF overlay on the X100t vs. the EVF on the XT10 and 2) the leaf shutter on the X1100T. 3) Tilting rear screen on the XT10. Image quality is the same on both cameras. You need to go to a store and handle both. Me, I love the X100T and the fixed 35mm equitant lens. You can't go wrong with either.
would you recommend this camera over the Olympus om-d e-m10 mark ii?
try for yourself at a local store to see. But Olympus is micro 4/3 cameras, which means the sensor size is 2 times smaller, less lights getting in and less bokeh for you images. Plus, a 50mm will be 100mm on a mirco 4/3, 24mm will be 48mm and so on.

this or the a6000 in terms of image quality? is it worth the higher price tag?
fuji is known for image quality. if you are planning to stick with the kit lens. i would try the fuji as sony kit lens is cheap and bad as you would buy proper lens to take advantage of its sensor. fuji however have expensive lineup of glasses. but you get what you pay for. all fuji lenses are sharp and well built.

Hello Lisa, would you recommend the Fuji X-T10 with the 35mm f1.4 OR the Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the Pana-Leica 25mm f1.4?
Salar Sayyad I personally prefer APS-C (Fuji) over micro four thirds (OM) for the added control over depth of field (more background blur). But they're both fine cameras!
Would you recommend this over the Sony a6000, then?

That said, if you're interested in shooting video the Samsung will be light-years ahead of the Fuji. Fuji doesn't really seem to care about video, they try to appeal to photographers more than anyone else.

Jason Hunter If you need waterproofing and a slightly higher magnification EVF, then the X-T1 is worth it... otherwise not so much.

If you are stuck up on sensor size then why go for the only marginally better "full-size sensor" vs the APS-C? You should be buying a medium format camera. This is one of the greatest bullshit non-issues ever. Unless you are printing huge prints, which most people never do, it'''s not an issue. If it is, then don't be a she-male go for a large format or wimp out and get a medium format. Sony can't approach the image quality of the Fujinon lenses or the SOOC jpegs.
As far as the grip goes, you can buy a very inexpensive thumb grip that slides into the hot shoe and allows you to grip it easily even if you have man hands.
