ive been reviewingthis camera for a week now and this is far the most informative review ive seen. great job!
That's very kind of you to say, thank you.
This is the most informative review of the XT-10 I've seen. Many thanks for the effort you put into making this.
I appreciate the kind words, thanks for taking the time to comment, it's always appreciated.
Glenn Grahame agree. Well done
the best review online!!Everything a buyer wants to know about the camera is presented! thanks for this video sir!
That is very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
I just discovered your reviews and I totally agree with the glowing comments that others have made. You convinced me to buy the T10 and now I want to watch other reviews just to marvel at your careful detail. THANKS!
It was a real pleasure to read your kind words, thanks very much.
I would like to thank you for the video and for your amazing style, that really gave a useful detailed overview of this camera.
+Dave Kelly Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate that.
Incredibly informative video! Thanks for making this!
It's my pleasure. Thank you for such a kind comment.
I love your essay type style to your reviews. Entertaining and very informing
+Chris Hu That's very kind of you to say - and you've seen right through me. I do script everything and then shoot to illustrate the script. It's also very nice to be recognized as entertaining - I certainly appreciate that!
+Kevin Sprich I'm sorry that you feel that I'm too fast. I'm glad to hear there are other reviewers who suit your slower pace. In addition to the pause button, youtube also provides a variety of playback speeds - maybe a slower one would work better for you.
+Kevin Sprich I appreciate your honesty. Clearly, this is the kind of helpful feedback one never gets from friends.
love your reviews!!! Great work! for me, the best ones in the net. Thank you!!!
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for your comment.
Thanks for the very informative review. Lots of good info.
I'm so happy to hear that - thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thanks, Maarten. Another excellent [and pertinent] review.
+Omer Terrason Thanks for the (continued) kind words - although I've always thought of myself as impertinent.
Very useful and detailed video. Thanks again.
+A Torrent of Videos I thought so too. Thanks for the kind words.
Another great review I enjoyed it a lot!
+peterzpictstube I'm very happy to hear that - thanks for the kind words.
just bought an xt-10 , excellent overview thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Excellent overview - thanks a lot - from the Netherlands.
+- FreeSpirit - Thanks for the kind words. It's always nice to hear from the country where I was born. Veel bedankt.
Excellent and competent review…simply put you do a marvelous job !!! I bought two xT-10's for everyday and street use, one kit and one body only, and they perform proficiently day and night on the street with the 18/2 and 35/2. The 18-55 kit lens is an exceptional value kit lens for travel and knocking around. I'm quite pleased with the CC and B[r] simulation JPEG's that require minimal editing in Lightroom and print nicely at A3. I have an Instax Printer in the bag for courtesy prints on the street. Though I have large hands the camera operates well enough, having set all four Selector buttons to Focal Point, and the [too recessed] Record button to ISO as you suggest, but Lock everything down when wearing gloves. I also use them for Still Life, Landscape, and Portraits with the 16/1:4 and 90/2, plus the 11 and 16 Macro extensions for closeup work. [Those lenses being too front heavy for extended carry without the accessory grip ].
+ordinaryimages Thank you for your kind words and sharing your insights. I share your appreciation of those modes - there's something very inspiring about the B/W modes on Fuji cameras. And yes, the Instax printer (although I don't take it everywhere) is quite the useful accessory. Good shooting.
Great review! Thanks
+Mrgomado Thanks for the kind words.
excellent review as usual
+itakeyourphoto That's very kind of you to say - thanks!
great review as always.
+D.jonson That's kind of you to say, thanks!
very detail and informative, thanks! currently i'm looking for info about HSS that working on XT10
I'm sorry I don't have that. You'll find the manual at Fuji's web site.
Hello Maarten, as I mentioned on a previous video, I recently bought my first digital camera (Sony A7-II) and I’m very happy with it. I have no intention of switching to a Fuji or any other camera for that matter, but I watch your videos because there is always something to learn, I always get photography ideas from you, your videos are very well made. Your reviews are definitely second to none. Keep up the great work.
Rick.
+RickBSO That's very kind of you to say - I can't think of a nicer compliment than you've provided.
You're such a nice guy and you explained everything very very well and in a very sweet way! Thank you for the video!
Regards,
Sam and Alma
:)
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
very informative, thanks!
Kind words are always appreciated.
Great review as always, cheers
+Brainfreeze I appreciate the kind words, thanks!
+Maarten Heilbron can you film with it?
It's digital, it doesn't support film. If you mean "record video", I show that in the review. Please watch!
You're correct about the movie/record button being hard to activate. I have to use my fingernail and really dig in to make it work. I assigned ISO to that button anyway, just in case.
+AdviceColumn Good suggestion, thanks!
Great review. You sold me it. Nice photos too by the way!
+aarthoor Thanks for the kind words, but I'm only trying to provide information, your decision to purchase should be based on more information than my review. However, I most certainly appreciate the compliment.
Thanks Maarten, I had read a few reviews and checked photos on Flickr but still had questions. That's the good thing about video reviews, you quickly outlined the major things I was interested in, like programmable features and ease of use, and gave us an idea about build quality.
I've had mine a few days now and we get along great, cheers!
+aarthoor Always nice to have an update from a viewer - if you post photos online, please send a link, either via comment or DM, or just post in the GooglePlus group.
I just purchased the Fuji xt10 but haven't received it yet. I am coming from a CanonT3I. I have always wanted something different and just took the plunge. I know that there will be a huge learning curve but I am looking forward to concouring it! You didn't mention time lapse. it isn't a big deal for me because I use my Sony Xperia Z3 for that but I was curious if you tried it. I'm sure I will reference your video many times when it arrives. I was worried about flowers because I mostly see street photography so I was very pleased to see you take photos of them. They do look over saturated. Maybe that's why not to many people use this for nature! lol! I never follow the crowd so I had to give this beautiful piece of kit a go! I think she and I will have a happy life together... after getting to know each other that is.😉 Thank you!
+millie williams I wish you a long and happy relationship. I found the viewfinder over-saturated, not the images (but if you do, I recommend you shoot RAW and adjust the saturation to your taste). I did play with the interval timer, it works, but I didn't have anything I wanted to show. Please watch as many times as you like!
Thank you for your reply! I hope that I don't have to do to much in post,as I am still learning that as well! Lol! I have the deal where you get Lr and Ps for a monthly fee but I tend to try and get my images pretty close to my liking in camera. However, as you know, that is not always possible and sometimes I want to create a certain mood that is kind of there but needs a little help. I don't mind bright but I don't like really over the top almost cartoonish color pops! Well, I guess I will find out soon enough! 😊 Thanks again!!!
+millie williams There's no need to take it over the top, but there's a lot of finessing you can do in LR. I tend to try to get the composition right in camera, take both JPEG and RAW and then post if there's something I think could be improved, or didn't turn out as spectacular as I'd like.
***** That's usually what I do also. I was nervous that you couldn't shoot both Raw and JPEG at the same time with this. I can't wait for it to get here! Lol!! Thanks again and have a great day!
+millie williams Always my pleasure, thank for joining the conversation.
one of the great reviews I've ever watched. Thank you. What do you think about the 16-50 mm kit lens? Is it sufficient for the beginners? or should I prefer 18-55 mm?
+Buğra Akbay That's very kind of you to say, thanks. I think the 16-50 is very suitable, and while the 18-55 F2.8 is a nice lens, you might prefer a prime or a longer zoom as a second lens as your interest and ability increases.
Great review Maarten. I find the placement of the navigation pad and the ease of in-inadvertent button press quite annoying.
Locking the pad helps somewhat but often I find myself looking at the menu in the viewfinder instead of the scene I want to capture.
+mweber2000 Thanks for the kind words, I share your frustration.
Hi Maarten, excellent review!
I'm deciding between this camera and the canon eos M6 (practically the same as the M5) both buying just the body + a 22 mm lens. Which one do you think it's the best alternative for street photography? Thanks!
I'd take the Fuji.
Thanks for the comprehensive review. It was best that I have seen for these days. I have two basic questions as I am new in photographing.
1.If I set max aperture in manual mode and then start zooming does that aperture change in relative to zoom scale?
2.And is that aperture change effect can be viewed in viewfinder and display simultaneously before taking a shoot? How about shutter speed change. If I change shutter speed while viewing the object is that change effect can be seen in display? I noticed that advanced filter and film effects can be applied and shown in display before taking picture. Is that the same?
+Budsuren Uuganbayar That's very kind of you to say, thanks! For question 1, it depends on the lens. Some lenses have a ramped aperture, and as you zoom in the aperture will change. The 18-55 in this review is a ramped aperture lens. Not all lenses work like this - better lenses will have a constant aperture. For the second question, yes, you will see the aperture change as you zoom (it's not very noticeable, if you use Auto ISO it will compensate.) It's even more difficult to see the effects of changing shutter speed, (unless you're longer than 1/10th of a second - which is not supported for video on the X-T10). The processing required for some effects will cause the display's refresh rate to slow - which may be the effect you're seeing.
Thanks.
Well done Sir.
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words.
I am considering this one over the X-T2 which in stores today here in Japan. I want the 18-135 mm lens because I am travelling a lot so do not want to change lenses. The XT2 + 18-135 mm + grip cost around 3000 USD here (after negotiating). The XT1 currently goes for 1500 USD with the 18-135 mm.
Those are complicated decisions, but all good choices.
im drooling with this camera thinking about getting this or the x70,which mic did you plug in btw?
The Fuji mic. More details on my Maartech.com blog.
Great camera, I have had one for a year now and have used it for a number of different professional shoots. Excellent detailed review, however it isn't exactly fair to specify which dials and direction buttons do what, since the camera is so customizable. For instance, I have my front dial set to change my ISO after compressing it, and my back dial to finely adjust shutter speed.
I appreciate the kind words, thanks for your note. And I highly recommend customizing it for your personal style ... but it would also be unfair to novice users not to explain how to operate the camera in its default mode.
i never had a dslr or a mirrorless , justa point and shoot , and i'm really tempted to buy this one. for a entry level do you think it's good ,or too much complicated? :)
zedominguez This is an excellent camera for anyone from entry level to intermediate. It is a good one to help you get accustomed to using manual controls and really understand your camera.
I'm starting to go through your reviews and loving them! Here's a question for you though, I'm debating between getting a Sony a6000 or the Fuji X-T10. For me it's more about the experience and image quality and not so much for videos. What would be your recommendation? Also taking into consideration lenses and whatnot. Thanks!!
Thanks, always nice to hear from a new and appreciative viewer (subscriber?). If there's anything about the X-T10 that you find appealing, then I would recommend that. The Sony is immensely capable, particularly for video and has lots to offer, but the Fuji's appeal goes beyond technology - it's a very photographer-friendly camera.
+Maarten Heilbron I am now! Thank you very much.
Video seems a bit better than from the X30. Thanks for the detailed review.
+ConsumerDV It's always nice to hear from a photographer who has enjoyed one of my videos.
Hi Marteen! Compare this Xt10 & Xt1 which one should I get if I'm more focus for video work. I do aware Xt2/Xh1 is more dedicated for video, but my budget not that high. Thanks
I recommend that you wait and save a few more dollars so that you won't be disappointed, or that you look at other manufacturers like Sony.
At the moment I've got a Canon 7D but I'm thinking of using that for my wildlife and using this for travel and portrait what do you think. Also love this video very informative
I appreciate the kind words. That sounds like a good plan - or travel,it's nice to have a smaller camera that's easy to carry all day.
I got a fuji xt10 today, and I think your explanation about this camera is sufficient. I agree with you, If this camera has HDMI out and video mode I will open a wine bottle. Ha... But still it is good photo camera and good for short videos..
Why put such obstacles between yourself and a bottle of wine?
Hello Maarten. Thank you for your great reviews. I'd like to know if you can plug an other external microphone as the Fuji ST1 on the X-T10 ? Would you recommend me this camera to do video shooting or the x-t20 ? Thank you for your help
You can use an external mic, but you will need an adapter for the plug. I'd recommend the X-T20.
Thank you !
Always my pleasure.
great video and review ! I have a question, what's the best settings to use for configuration in S and M mode + menu settings ? there's so much to get lost in. lol Thanks Maarten :)
+CJ Markrush Shoot in RAW+JPEG mode. Use AutoISO. Most photographers prefer A mode as aperture (a soft background) is their most important thing. And then they'd use the smallest Fstop possible. If you're shooting action, S mode is better, and in order to stop motion, you probably want 1/500 or faster - depending on lens and distance to the subject. If you have to ask, don't use M. Even for these, this is only a guideline. Go out and shoot and evaluate your photos, then keep shooting. In time you'll start to understand which settings are best for which kinds of pictures. The beauty of digital photography is that it costs you nothing to try all kinds of settings to see what happens and to understand that if this is not a good situation to use that setting, what is. That experience will also give you a great deal of familiarity with the controls so that when the situation arises, you'll be ready instead of fumbling. Good shooting.
+Maarten Heilbron Thanks for the response I really appreciate it ! I'm finding out that using S mode and also Aperture Priority works better for me and I do like using Auto ISO but the screen appears noisy which I"m sure that is normal right ? Coming from a Fujifilm S5 Pro DSLR and Nikon bodies, it's sure different to use, heck I even had an Olympus EP-1 ! haha. I'm sure I'll be enjoying this camera more and more and can't wait to get the other models and lenses soon, I have the 18-55 f/2.8-4 L OIS lens for now. Happy shooting to you too and keep up the great work and reviews ! :)
+CJ Markrush Thanks for the kind words, always appreciated. The screen is sometimes noisy, sometimes over contrasty, but the pictures nearly always turn out well - I could say that about most cameras.
I have just come from your review of the Sony RX100 III. Now I am even more confused as to which camera I should buy! Do you have a review of the LX100 by any chance? :-). P.S. Another fantastic review...
+Darren Saunders You're back with more kind words - I'm appreciative of your interest and support. Confusing, but unless there's a specific feature that draws you to one camera over the other, you'll find more similarities than differences (in terms of capability and quality anyway). Yes, you'll find my LX100 review at ua-cam.com/video/_Lhsrc9oG5U/v-deo.html
im getting one
I like the positive energy. Enjoy!
I used to own a Pentax MX-1. That is an older camera which rotated the lcd screen display when the camera was in portrait mode. no viewfinder though
+Jonathan Ashdown Thanks for that tip - I wasn't aware that anyone had that feature on the LCD - I wonder why it wasn't more widely adopted.
this is a great video thank you. i am buying a cam first time i see this cam second hand its suitable for my budget. i know its old and my knowlegde of cameras limited i want to ask you. after 5 years is it purchasable
I would recommend a newer model.
great review, you answered most of my questions in it. pls keep such awesome reviews coming.
I would like to know, which one will you go for a Fujifilm X-T10 or Panasonic GX8 or Nikon D7200 or Sony a6000 or any of your personal favorite and why?
I'm very confused at the moment as I'm planning for my first pro camera☺ I've been into mobile photography for a couple of years now and I now need an upgrade, so pls suggest me.
+Ashish Tiwari Thanks for your kind words, and taking the time to comment. Since, in my judgement, they're all good cameras, unless there's a specific feature or function that one offers that is lacking in the others, choose the one you love the look of, the one that you'd never leave at home and the one you'd be proud to be seen with. I truly have nothing bad to say about any of these ...
If you have an understanding of the basics of exposure and want to be in control, take the X-T10. If you're happy shooting with a viewfinder and the size and price of the D7200 aren't out of your range, take the Nikon. although I haven't shot with the GX8, (my G7 review should be finished shortly) Panasonic's firmware features go beyond the others in several ways. Personally, I own the A6000 because I absolutely fell in love with it when I reviewed it and it paired well with my NEX VG20 video camera.
+Maarten Heilbron thank you so much for the reply.
I personally love the Fujifilm XT10, but Nikon D7200 has an upper hand here with great battery, weather sealed and of course brilliant video quality. but the Sony A6000 is the most economical of the choices and does almost all the work.
I would love to hear your personal take, which one would you buy had it been your first Camera and why☺ and should I wait for A6000 successor?
I know I'm just being a super excited kid, but I like carrying the best gadgets with me which would never let me down so pls do suggest me whenever you can☺
+Ashish Tiwari You could always wait, as there will always be a new model ... If you love the X-T10, then by all means jump in - I'm sure you'll be pleased. Economics played a good part in my A6000 decision - it really delivers a lot for the price.
hello sir just wanted to ask what raw file converter are you using? *amateur here lol*
great stuff btw. such a soothing review
+Joops Miranda Anyone who asks about and is planning to use RAW files is at least one step up from being an amateur (not that there's anything wrong with that!). I use Lightroom to open RAW files. Although there have been occasions when a new camera's RAW file format isn't yet supported, in which case I use the manufacturer's file convertor. And thanks for the kind words, although I'm not going for "soothing", it's always nice to read my viewer's comments.
+Maarten Heilbron thank you for the reply! And please I meant soothing in the best sense. I appreciate what that you review the camera and then add in your own personal preference on how to use the camera to enhance your experience. Keep it up
+Joops Miranda Thanks, and I took it in the best sense too - I appreciate your reply.
Hello Maarten,
Great Video! As always.
I have a little situation: How do I get to this camera's shutter count?
Thanks and have a great day!
Thanks for your kind words. I am not aware of any consumer device that can display the shutter count on this camera.
Why is this a concern? At some point, the shutter or some other mechanism in this camera will break or fail and you'll need to replace it. Worrying about that in advance will not help you create better images. If it pleases you to take hundreds of images - then that is what your camera is for, regardless of its shutter count.
I understand that it's an interesting metric for purchasing a used camera, but I would regard the overall physical condition of the camera as the best guide to how much it's been used and how carefully its been treated.
@@MaartenHeilbron Your answer couldn't be more assertive, pragmatic and full of common sense than this one, Maarten!!
I unequivocally agree with you. Then again, there's this persnickety inquiring from second hand camera buyers. After having your answer, I won't heed to that kind of questioning.
Thanks a lot!!
Keep on sharing!!
After a considerable amount of deliberating, over a good while, I upgrading to my first full frame camera, Pentax K-1 from the A6000. Do you have any plans for reviewing that camera? I've come to rely on your indept review/tutorial for all things camera / Sony and thus was wondering if you would lend said expertise to Pentax's first Full Frame. Thanks for your knowledgeable, entertaining reviews.
+Rick Mentore Thank you so much for your very kind words. I'd love to lend said expertise to that Pentax model. I'll ping my Ricoh Canada contact to see if they have a K-1 to lend. What convinced you to go with the Pentax?
+Maarten Heilbron The 36 mega pixels, in-body stabilization and all for under $2000, got my attention. Now with the camera in hand, the Panzerwagon like built is reassuring, feels like a tangible investment. I am glad I got it, however at this time, I am somewhat lost in the menu. I appreciate your prompt response.
PS; I am well aware that this request is somewhat out-of-place at this Fuji X-T10 spot.
+Rick Mentore Yes, all good points. My Ricoh contact is out of office until Monday.
does rode mic is compatible with xt10? i confused because im searching for xt10 mic to make a video .
It likely is - but you'll need an adapter from the mini plug to the micro jack on the camera. The Fuji mic has the right plug.
Just wondering, I think you mentioned it, so if I turn the camera for portrait shooting, the EVF wont turn? or the LCD at least?
+DannySkateTV Sorry if I wasn't clear. 't course, both monitor and EVF work for both landscape and portrait. The overlay menu, with the settings display rotates to portrait mode only on the EVF.
Oh thank you for the quick reply! Just one more question, how does firmware updates with the x-t10 compare to the x-t1? Which one gets more and at what pace?
+DannySkateTV Sorry, I haven't been keeping track of that. Maybe you can tell by looking at the support pages on Fuji's site.
Good day sir Maarten! I'm a newbie to camera and I just bought a Fujifilm X-T10 yesterday and can I asl for your recommended lens for a film-like vibes photos? Thank you so much!
A 23mm prime would be nice and pairs well in size.
@@MaartenHeilbron yay! thank u sm sir maarten! would a TTArtisan 25mm do great for film vibes?
I haven't tried that lens, but I think it would.
Hi, Can you help me? Fujifilm xt-10 or Olympus om-d e-m10 mark ii. which one should I choose?
I haven't reviewed the E-M10, so not really in a position to provide good advice.
I was looking at Mirror-less Cameras... Leica is too expensive.. Thinking of getting a Fuji... Confused between X100t and xt10.. i know xt10 has interchangeable lens so that's an advantage , tho read some articles on attachable lens for x100t .....what would you suggest to start off with mirror less cameras ... x100t/xpro2/xt10
I think that waiting until after an announcement rumoured for this week might be helpful.
Really loved and enjoyed this video; Hi, im a begginer and i would like to ask you if you recommend me this camera. Yesterday was trying it at the mall.
It has a pretty cool desing and great great features, like it a lot. What you think, its good option for starters or you would recommend me another one, is for hobby nothing serious.
By the way, keep it up. ✌🏼
That's nice of you to say, thanks.
I think it's an excellent camera, particularly if you enjoy photography and want to be able to learn the fundamentals of exposure controls. Takes great photos too.
i never had a dslr or a mirrorless , justa point and shoot , and i'm really tempted to buy this one. for a entry level do you think it's good ,or too much complicated? :)
I'd be tempted too. I actually think that the control set on the X-T10 make understanding and using the camera simpler than other cameras. That said, there is a lot to learn (and by learn I mean try and experiment). I think that's both the challenge and pleasure of photography - trying the various capabilities under different circumstances and learning which helps you translate your photographic vision into an image. Hope this helps.
it really did ,thank you very much , you gained a new subscriver and admirer today ! i really like photography , and that challenge is what locks me the most in this challenge :) keep on the good work , cheers.
Always nice to hear, thank for the kind words. I'll do my best to continue to earn your confidence.
Maarten Heilbron sorry to bother you once again, but can tou recommend me a good book about photos, so i can learn more and get a wider range of information about it. thank you !
Too many books to recommend one. First, a book of photos by a photographer you like, then an "idea" book with suggestions of things to try, then a technical book about exposure.
One more thing...I am still learning. I am self taught going on 2 years. I am turning 50 in a couple months and this is a passion I put off for many years. I am starting to understand exposure but I am not that confident. I started to buy the Sony a6000 but in all honesty I didn't like the jpeg's and sometimes I just use those. It just...felt off. If I continue to practice do you think the Fuji will help me with learning exposure or is there a book you recommend? I let negative comments swirl in my head and build self doubt.
+millie williams I assure you, we are all still learning. I'm over 50 myself. The best exposure teacher is trial and error. And the beauty of any digital camera is that you can keep trying hundreds of options and combinations at very low cost. And the time you invest (ten thousand hours if you'd like to be expert according to Malcolm Gladwell) will reward you with both understanding, expertise and a faster reaction time when you want a specific shot. The best book to read? The manual. And try everything. Every setting. Best wishes.
***** Again, thanks! Great info and I have my confidence in check! I really appreciate your time. I am so excited to spend time getting to know my new addition! Happy Holidays!! Oh,I subscribed to your channel.
+millie williams Enjoy - and thanks!
Which lens were you using please?
+c0ldc0ne My apologies. (I was thinking Panasonic). It was the 18-55 kit lens.
Did you ever review that Nikon 1 series your wife was using? Interesting that people buy those.
It was a combined effort: ua-cam.com/video/AWYgc4zpTGY/v-deo.html. Pretty sure that Nikon has lost interest in the 1 series.
based on your experience, what is better camera Fuji X-T10 or Sony A6000 and why. Im having a hard time deciding which one I should pick. Thank you.
+garylparas I would have a hard time too, as they're both excellent choices. If there's no feature that makes one the obvious choice over the other, I'd consider the following factors: my wallet, the size and feel of the camera in my hand, and my heart. The one to buy is the one you're proud to own and would never leave at home.
+Maarten Heilbron Thank you for the quick response. Im not cosidering the price and size as of now and I cannot say which one feels great on my hand because I haven't yet tested them. In the tests that you have done which one has better image quality. Thank you
+garylparas Fair enough. For image quality, I don't really have the tools to do the kinds of measurement that dpreview and dxomark do, I suggest you check their results.
Do you get an acceptable bokeh on the 18-55mm @ 50-55mm ? THanks!!! Getting my XT10 with the 18-55mm :)
Not sure if you and I agree on acceptable, but Yes, if the subject is close, the aperture is fairly wide and the background is a reasonable distance away.
Maarten Heilbron thanks ! excited to get mine with the 18-55 kit. :)
Always my pleasure ... enjoy!
Yes - it's best to use a large aperture, zoom in, keep the subject close and the background far.
Hello my friend, good work on the video! I wanted to get your help if possible because i am really confused about which mirrorless i should get... Till now i only performed smartphone photography, and i want to upgrade to a mirrorless camera, but there are so many choices... Fujifilm X-T10, Sony a6000, Olympus E-M10 II, etc... I am interrested the most with the image quality, durability, and i need a camera that i can grow up with, and be a great compagnion as my first ever "real" camera. Thanks for you time!!
Thank you very much for your kind words, and I'm pleased to help - although assessing one camera as best for your needs is difficult without a longer conversation to understand what kinds of images and scenes you'd like to capture. If you have no brand history or investment in lenses, first make a decision about whether stills or video are most important. You'll find more differences in video than in stills. For image quality, I do recommend that you read the reviews at dpreview, which provide excellent comparable detail. The X-T10 is an ideal camera for someone who's decided to be passionate about photography - it enables you to get a better feel and quicker response if you are prepared to learn and use the manual shutter and aperture controls. That will help you understand light and exposure in a way that enables your creativity - a particular strong aspect of any Fuji model. Personally, for as much as I enjoy shooting with the X-T10, my recommendation might be to spend a little less and try the Sony A6000 or Panasonic G7 models. Their video capabilities are better and they are overall slightly better featured than the X-T10.
That said, after eliminating those that don't have the specific features on your must have list, I generally recommend that you choose a camera first based on your hands (try them on for size and finger positioning), and your wallet (don't forget to include lenses in your thinking). Then select the one that you would be proudest to own, the one that you feel a strong affinity for, the one you'd never leave at home.
Hope this helps.
+Maarten Heilbron Thank you very much for you reply and time! Well in my current position, i can get the X-T10 with 2 lenses (16-50mm & 50-230mm) for about 700$ and the a6000 with 2 lenses (16-50mm & 55-210mm) for 1200$... so the X-T10 is way cheaper than the a6000 for me... and i am more interrested in stills my friend. So do you think i should get the X-T10 for this price? Thank you again :)
Wow, great deal. Yes, at that price (and with little interest in video) that's an excellent choice.
Hi Maarten,
I'm a Nikon dslr shooter, but have been seriously thinking about get to a mirrorless, purely for holidays and street photography. Lugging around my D800 or my D600 with a battery grip and lenses is just not practical whilst on holiday.
At first I've been thinking about either the Xpro2 or wait for the XT2, with just one or maybe 2 lenses. But now, the XT10 seems very appealing, especially when looking at the huge saving in money, and being even smaller than the Xpro2 and the XT10, let alone a D800.
Please help. What do I do, considering I love my Nikon dslr's and I'll never give them up, and I'm just looking for a holiday and street camera that'll give me dslr type quality.
Oh, fantastic video BTW. You're the best reviewer on YT.
Thank you for the kind words, and for trusting my opinion. I'm with you on the holiday and street question - traditional bodies and lenses really put the lugg in luggage. When a viewer asks about trading in their DSLR gear for mirrorless, I usually advise them to hold on to the kit until they know they're happy - so I think that's the right decision.
I think the X-T10 is an excellent value for this purpose. I assume that the focus (sorry) of your work is stills - otherwise I may need to suggest some alternates.
***** Yes stills only really.
Very good, then I'd happily go with the X-T10. Personally, I like the 18-135 for travel, although the 35mm F2 prime is also an excellent lens and might be better for streeting.
I am looking for a mirrorless too and am currently thinking of the X-T10 too however my work is more video focused, would you recommend a different camera at a similar size and price point?
Before the X-T2, I would not recommend a Fuji for video. Panasonic G7 ua-cam.com/video/zKUZoV_xVYg/v-deo.html or Sony A6000 ua-cam.com/video/hkBnze9wUQU/v-deo.html might be better.
great review. too bad there is no iso-wheel. how fast can i switch from 200 to 1600 iso when i am on the street? it's the only setting i switch most of the time.
Thanks for the kind words. The simplest way is likely to use the Q menu and dial it in. You could also create a custom setting with each and use the Q menu to switch.
thx for the fast respns. i have to test the camera in a local store. i am used to the canon 600D where i only press the iso-button and use the wheel to switch.
If it helps, the X-T2 (announced but to yet available) has a dedicated ISO dial with a toggle locking button. ua-cam.com/video/VtMD0ysiIao/v-deo.html
+GARCIIIAmonster On the XT10 you can assign ISO Sensitivity to the front command dial (or one of the others) via one of the Function Buttons.
This Camera has very nice sound recording capability and to record video you have to hold the red Botton for a section.
You should make a video to show this.
You have very competent photo composition. Most ppl on YT do not, even the popular photo channels. R u a teacher?
+peachees What an extraordinary compliment - thank you! I'm not a teacher, but I am married to one, so maybe by osmosis?
+Maarten Heilbron lol 😅😅😅😅
I like your sense of humour.
Hello to everyone . I can't decide between X-T10 and X-T20. In the country I live in, the T20 is sold for twice the price of the T10.
Is it worth paying double?
It is not worth double - but it is the better camera.
Una bella recenzione
+Pier Giorgio Zuccaro Mille grazie per le gentili parole .
***** Thanks to your reviews / tests. I'm not very good with the English language but as demonstrating their cameras with the results of the shots and setup I can get a proper idea. Good job
+Pier Giorgio Zuccaro Thank you for your kind words in both languages - and your English is clearly better than my Italian!
8:52 Yes, it is perfectly okay to keep shooting in Auto Mode. :3
Thanks, I'll remember that. Not for video though, right?
@@MaartenHeilbron Yeah, it takes more than Auto Mode for a good video xD
@@thegrayyernaut Right.
great review as always - thanks - yes video is something Fuji just does not do well - and of course no 4K - and of course we will Never Ever see Fuji implement Touch LCD and Touch Shutter - Fuji is catering to the purists - with odd dial layout for beginners -
and to me a lack of FN buttons - yes there are programmable buttons - but unmarked - I think they could have added few FN buttons on the back - it looks pretty empty -
Also no C1 C2 C3 mode - which is so practical - like if one likes to switch to BW or some film simulation - it requires menu diving each time -
Fuji has nice lenses and quite a decent selection - but I think the sensor is getting a bit outdated although a decent sensor - the other thing is that Fuji will not implement IBIS anytime soon if ever - and most if not all of their primes do not have IS -
So time to buy a Backlit sensor from Sony - so at least to make up for needed higher shutter speed in low light - or they could buy the Samsung 28MP Backlit sensor :)
Samsung is struggling and rumors they are pulling out - although they come out with some oddly worded statement saying no they are not pulling out - but at the same time saying that they are checking the market etc. - Sony likewise is rumored to discontinue the APS-C size sensor with the A6100 rumored to be released next spring -
and resources site that Sony has not released any new APS-C E mount lens in a long time as one of the supporting statements - My guess is that Sony will take over Olympus camera division in the next few years - so they will inherit the M43 sensor -
So Sony might just focus on the 1 inch sensor and M43 - leaving possibly Fuji alone with APS-C in mirrorless :) well just speculation -
I appreciate certain things in the Fuji cameras but then other things just bug me to no end -
Will you do an overview of the Canon G3X ?
+igetsmart Thanks for the kind words, and the encouragement. I'm not sure that I agree with all your comments - there are 7 custom settings available (admittedly not on the mode dial). Except for video, I don't really see any deficiencies with the Fuji sensor, even if it is dated. You do provide some interesting speculation - let's see what happens.
Although Fuji is not perfect, neither are its competitors - each is missing features that would be nice to have. Canon Canada has changed their media relations team and currently does not have any of the newer models to review - but I continue to pursue.
thanks, great review! but .....
no emotions, no excitements, all robotic ..
do you like this camera?
will you keep it?
+Roy Kin Thanks for the kind words, but ... I didn't intend to be robotic, so I'm sorry that it comes across that way. I do intend to be factual instead of passionate. I did like the camera, it's particularly nice if you have a good understanding of the basics of exposure, and prefer to manipulate manually. For myself (it was on loan from Fuji, so it's been returned) I need to have more video features (particularly live HDMI out) to consider purchasing it.
x-t10 or x-e2s ?? :(
X-T10 :-)
Why x-t10?? Please help me!! :D
I think I explained it all in the video ... what did I miss?
plus de critique en français ?
My brain hurts
That is unfortunate. Try aspirin.
This title should be called TUTORIAL instead.
Thanks for the kind words, appreciated.
sir i lost by you..i cant even use this too hard for me
I'm so sorry to hear, but thanks for watching.
