    Hi James, thanks for sharing your latest video. I really enjoyed watching you paint, your style is so calm and relaxed , it's one thing to be a talented painter but also you are able to teach to others too.
    I feel as a beginner I'm stood in the massive watercolour library that is online, but realise I only want to read one book, yours .
    If I didn't I would be swamped and confused. So I stand half a chance to embrace watercolor painting.
    Thank you.

      Hi Steve,
      That’s very kind of you to say.
      There are so many different ways to paint Watercolour and so many teachers. The benefits of this way is that it’s quite a quick way of painting, so you can get the joy of finishing a painting more often.
      To me, one of the biggest benefits of it is that it’s more fun to do.
      Keep practising
      Best wishes, James

    I really like your style of painting. Can see the value in a sketch before you paint now. The looseness inspires to try it. I am very good at not knowing when to stop. I am in South Somerset so lots and lots of intermittent driving rain here still and it’s forecasted for the next three weeks, umbrella painting could be the answer. I can’t wait to get out and paint. I am looking forward to seeing your next tutorial. I find them relaxing.

    • @JamesPotterAboutArt
      @JamesPotterAboutArt  6 місяців тому

      Hi Christine,
      Glad you enjoyed the painting. I find the sketch a really good way of getting my mind around what is going to happen and knowing where things are going to be placed.
      Somerset is a lovely place to paint. I’ll probably be travelling through there on my way down to Cornwall in the summer.
      The weather is incredible at the moment, it just never seems to stop raining.
      Looking forward to brighter days and getting out!
      Best wishes, James

    Lovely painting. Rocks are not easy but it's inspired me to get out and have a go. I need to be brave and start doing plein air!

    • @JamesPotterAboutArt
      @JamesPotterAboutArt  6 місяців тому

      Hi Claire,
      Rocks are interesting shapes and they give the opportunity to include 3-D into the picture.
      You do need to be brave at first to get out and paint.
      Maybe start in small steps, going into your garden and start and go from there.
      Good luck!
      Best wishes, James

      Hi Gary,
      It was a bit cold, but very satisfying, great to start the first painting in Scotland, this year.
      It’s really great that you’re going to get outdoors to paint. It will teach you so much about painting. It’s definitely the right thing to do
      Good luck.

      Hi Stella,
      Glad you like the painting.
      Glad you’ve got out to do some sketching, it’s difficult weather to do Watercolour painting at the moment.
      I grew up in Midhurst and then moved to Chichester. So know West Sussex very well.
      Let me know how your outdoor painting goes, when the weather clears up.

      Hi Stella,
      We really liked Chichester, there was nothing wrong with it at all. It’s just that I loved Edinburgh and Scotland. We needed a change so we thought why not.
      The main thing we miss about Chichester is how easy it was to get to France and the rest of Europe in our campervan.

      Glad you enjoyed the video. One of the benefits of getting outside is that you have to attack the painting, otherwise you won’t get it done. I’m glad the style has rung a cord with you.
      Yes, I do all of my own framing, I feel you can have much more interesting frames when you do it yourself, I particularly like the handmade feel.

    Another fresh colourful painting. I find when the light goes there is a tendency to put the mood into the picture and I lose light and colour and the picture turns grey and grim and lifeless if I don’t see colour I can’t portray it - how do you retain that brightness? Something I have to learn. Nevertheless I enjoyed you demo thank you James.

    • @JamesPotterAboutArt
      @JamesPotterAboutArt  6 місяців тому

      Hi Robert,
      An interesting point.
      I think part of painting is to have a memory of effects.
      Painting outdoors allows you to use that memory so that you can continue to paint even when the conditions change.,
      I hope that helps.
      Best wishes, James
