Thank you for the tips. 6 boxes there are, does this mean I could save 6 different settings in these 6 boxes, and then I could recall (assign) any one of 6 of those to Mode Dial U1, U2 or U3 ?
Hi.I am glad I found your channel really useful tips and clear demonstrations. However, in this one, something is slightly confusing. When you set up "asdf", in Box 4, the video showed that Box 4 was already assigned to U2. You then said " In this case I'm not going to (Save) do so. Then you showed how to put "asdf " into U2 and the grtaphics showed that this time ASDF is not assigned to any Box.
It is a bit confusing. When saving, you are asked to add the Box to U1,2 or 3. You don’t have to do that. You can just go back at that point. I urge you to keep practicing saving, recalling etc. Soon it will become second nature. This ability is a real eye opener!
THanks for the useful videos. What I didn't find yet is what happens after you use a preset and then return to, say A or T mode. Do the settings auto revert to what they were the last time you used this modes, or? This is what sometimes stops me from using presets. E.g. I might only want to shoot jpg in one preset, but raw for the entire rest of the camera (the modes and other presets). Do i have to go find this setting and change it back again if I return to A or P or T mode after using it? Thanks a lot
Thanks for that great question! M, Tv, Av, and P share most settings and will stay as set. A preset will always set the camera with the saved settings. With one caveat. In a scenario where you have switched to a preset and then CHANGED a setting. Even if you turn the camera off and on, the settings will remain changed. The best way to ensure the preset is correct is to switch modes quickly and back again. Keep tuned to the channel as I want to make more presets in the future! If you have any more questions, I'm happy to help.
@@photosoftaiwan thanks for the quick answer but: "...and will stay as set" Do you mean set by the preset, or kind of like their own "box" whereby they just remain as they were last used. E.g would Av (when returning to it from using a preset) be as you last used Av, or will it be as you had things in the preset (other than it's reverting to Av). So, will the ND stay on auto, will the anti shake stay as per the last used preset or as it last was when using the Av mode? The answer to this means that in moving back to Av from U2 would inevitably mean going via U1 or U3 on the way. It's essential for me to know where I'll be if I quickly just need M mode, which is why up until now I've not used the presets. Thanks again 🙂
The M, Tv, Av, and P share global settings like color, quality, drive mode, and focus method. They all remain as last used, even if you switch to a preset and back again. They are indeed in their own "box" that just stays as set. The presets are independent of the usual controls. If you used a preset and then went back to Av, all the settings would be the same as they were prior to you using the preset. Presets offer staggering possibilities. With just a little twist of a dial, you can switch between completely different settings for almost everything. It's almost criminal that many GR III owners neglect to use them.
Set up the camera then save the settings to a Box. Then assign the Box to U1/2/3. Spot on! That’s exactly what you can do. It’s what makes the GR 3 so powerful!
So good. Thank you for your super swift reply. Have a nice weekend!

Thanks!!!!!
Nicely explained - thank you!
I love this camera so much. I don’t know of another that saves the manual focus distance. U1, U2, U3 are incredibly powerful
Long time GRIII (and its predecessors) user and neglected this part of the camera. Maybe take another peek here! Thanks.
That’s great, if you come up with any good presets, share them!
Hello. Sorry, do you need to set to ‘M’ or manual when you set the recipe before saving it?
Whichever mode you create a preset in will be used for that preset. If you save in “M” that will be used for the preset. Hope this helps
Excellent instructions, enjoy your stay in Sunny Kaoshiung
Thanks for the kind comment. Kaohsiung feels like home now :)
so once I do "f8 and be there" do I then slide dial to U1? this is where I get lost.
Set up the camera then save the settings to a Box. Then assign the Box to U1/2/3.
