    GRIII is very capable and customisable camera, even though it looks simple, it's quite complex and feature rich. multiple focus modes and button customisation options make it a very flexible camera.

    Rather than set your Ricoh to snap distance priority it is better to choose manual focus, auto ISO, 1/500 of a sec(for example), snap focus and then change the aperture to vary DOF.
    This to me is better than snap distance priority because it allows you to have snap distance priority by changing aperture at your chosen exposure speed.
    I do not like to shoot at 1/40 of a sec. This is a common exposure speed the Ricoh will use in snap distance priority. If you use my method it is the same as snap distance priority. Set the camera to snap focus, can choose the exposure speed and the camera will choose the appropriate ISO for your aperture (DOF).
    This also works if you have a camera set up with back button focus. My Z8 shows me the focus distance in the viewfinder. So, I could set the focus to 3m by manually focusing. Then set the camea to manual, auto ISO, 1/500 of a sec. Then changing the aperture will vary my DOF with my camera set to focus at 3m. This means my Z8 is now set to snap focus priority. Simple if you use back button focus.

    Focus is an important Mode in photography and it needs to be practiced. Great point Matti when you said to experiment, that's the only way to nail it. Very important subject is Focus and you presented it beautifully. Thanks for this video. 😊.

    Love your video! Are you able to help me with how to edit exposure compensation when adding Ricoh recipes? Do you have a video on this?

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks. I have no video on the recipes but I should probably make one. I think you can't save the exp comp value in a recipe but I might be wrong. After all, exp comp is something you'd dial in after you first evaluate each photo situation. I have a GR playlist, please take a look: ua-cam.com/play/PLkkZKkR0lgqkRwelW-mDgztjsEu3Im5TS.html

    I thought one of the modes you talked about was going to be what some manufacturers call trap focus where you set a distance and the camera takes the photo when the subject is at that distance.
    It would be handy if the camera could automatically set the focus to the hyperfocal distance for your selected aperture and distance range. That's something I'd actually use.

    • @mattisulanto

    That was very helpful. At this moment I'm thinking to turn my GRIIIx into more like point and shot camera where P mode is not helpful at all. Any recomendations how can I set my camera to being more point and shot?

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  5 місяців тому

      Thanks. I don't understand why P mode is not helpful at all. What do you mean by "more point and shoot"?

    Very constructive advices as usual Matti! I love GR III x as well. Just a question Matti: do you know how, in Mode M, changing the EV corrector position from the wheel? My fingers are always touching the wheel and then, changing the EV correction in a un-expecting way..

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  7 місяців тому +2

      You could add exp comp to the ADJ menu. So when you press the thumb "wheel" you can access the exp comp.

    What is de difference between SDP and set your aperture manually? When choosing DOF1/2/3 it sets a aperture as well.

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 місяці тому

      If you watch the full video you should be able to understand. In Snap Distance Priority you choose the DOF you want and the camera sets the appropriate aperture.

      @@mattisulanto I did watch the full video bit still don't understand it. If you choose snap focus in aperture mode, and i dial in F8, the aperture (distance) stays always the same.
