To anyone wondering why, "I May Destroy You" is not nominated for the Golden Globes but "Emily in Paris" did is because the producers of "Emily in Paris" would fly the HFPA judges to Paris and send them to expensive holidays near their set. Even the judges admitted that they were being treated like, "kings and queens". And remember, HFPA judges determine which shows will be nominated for a Golden Globe.
Don't let it annoy you. Award shows, in particular the Globes, have shown throughout the past several years how out of touch they are and how little they know about true beauty in art. At this point, getting annoyed or upset at a golden globe snub is like getting annoyed that the MTV movie awards snubbed an actually good film. These award shows are completely obsolete now and I'm so glad that in my lifetime they'll probably cease to exist; at least in their current format that is.
Most shows that get nominated have to a lot of socialising and networking behind the scenes especially the people that are arranging the awards. People that worked on I May Destroy You may not have the time for such nonsense and as long as people enjoy the art of this show, then that's it ❤️
Emily in Paris flew Golden Globe voters to the set in Paris and treated them to a VIP tour it was manipulated and made worse by the fact that one of show’s Producers is Lilly Collins.
Imagine watching a powerful exploration of power dynamics from a wildly talented actor choosing to share her real pain and leaving a dry negative comment 🤷
Speaks to their unresolved pain and they don't like it or want to deal with it, whether that's unfulfilled potential, guilt felt from an action/inaction. I actually feel sorry for them.
What I would say is that - your comment is very good - and it is precisely this, that OP has a particular talent for being able to hit the right nerve (or series of nerves), and we must allow for the possibility that it is precisely that talent that "rustles the jimmies." If OP gave no reaction to people being not precise, we would not see such averse reactions. quite literally, it is the case in point that the proposition "we can not have a sane conversation with a person who is not sane", (which I attribute to my mother)........and, from whence it comes. I myself am prodromal - so this is not an attempt to be ableist, either. Any conversation with me may be speculatively sane or not sane, however, I have a particular talent for recognizing and compartmentalizing when others toxicity makes me want to throw monkey-poo ;-) Thank you for your comment. All the blessings, friend.
I don't believe that I have ever even heard of this show before, but this clip is absolutely incredible. It is impeccably written and powerfully delivered. Much respect to the actress and the writers.
This was such an incredible series that Netflix tried to steal from her. I’m glad she took it to HBO were she was given the rights and credit for her spectacular work. I’ve been a big fan of hers for a long time and I hope she gets more credit for her talent.
While Michaela Coel’s snub from the Golden Globes IS unacceptable and a total slap in the face to how wonderfully written, acted and directed this show is, I’m grateful for the attention this snub has now brought to IMDY. Otherwise, I may not have ever become aware of this exceptional series in time to view it while this oh-so-talented, powerhouse of a woman has only started making the kinds of waves Hollywood and society so desperately need, in what I hope will be a very long, bright career that brings about big changes. This monologue is 🔥🔥🔥
I literally had the exact same reaction lol! I started watching and couldn’t get into the first episode but boy was I missing out! I will definitely be revisiting this tonight :)

Goosebumps the entire time! I had to watch it twice because it was that intense. I feel like it’s moments like this that really show how in tune and how intensely this amazing actress has become this character.
This series was excellent in this entirety, but I was reminded of this today and sent it to my friend who recently came out of an abusive relationship.
Because sadly she's not white had this been a white woman saying these thing they would have gotten so much praise for such a raw performance But once again sadly because this wasn't a white lead people might not even bother to watch because white guilt is to inconvenient
She doesn't fit into a standard mold, structure or narrative. Boys club. She's not a white woman. Possibly being "too much" of something or "not enough" of something else. The judges or panel of voters didn't get wined and dined at all, or to their liking. Not enough promoting. Politics. Could be one of many reasons or all the above.
What is this clip about? In my opinion, it's about calling out narcissistic behavior and drawing the line in the sand for what you will take from abusers. About setting appropriate boundaries after you wake up and see peoples' behavior for exactly what it is and not being societies scapegoat. Society has snubbed this because society is overall narcissistic in nature and doesn't want to be called out or change their behavior. It thrives off of denial and deflection. 💜🧡💚 that's my opinion, anyways.
@@typicalexpert7715 So Africa still has t.v, data, and phones. We also have BBC. And stop acting like Africa is country, it's a continent with many many countries, economies, and leaderships.
the monologue is about how predators sometimes violate their victims by finding and using "gray areas", i.e. doing things that aren't clear, definite crimes or obviously violent, thus blurring the line between what's okay and what's not. it's super destructive because they tend to use this absence of definition and clarity to trick victims, justice and specially themselves into failing to identify abusive behaviour, and so they're able to continue preying so without facing any consequence whatsoever
She wrote, directed, AND starred in this series. Let that sink in.
@MoCo MoCo She. The black woman talking.
@MoCo MoCo Michaela Coel
@MoCo MoCo Did you see any men in this clip? I didn't.
This is the second show she’s done that with. Chewing Gum was her show also.
I'm in love, tell me she won something other than a place in my heart (which, while something, doesn't further her deserving career)

I was gonna like this comment but it made me angry 😠
Yep. A UA-camr did an expose on this. Prizes shouldn't be bought. Bribery was the only way Emily in Paris could win anything.
The golden globes having no black voters probably plays a role too.
That explains that then because Emily in Paris is a horrible show
@@tomryan4556 angry because it’s true?
Michaela Coel's talent is actually scary. I May Destroy You was a phenomenal series! So needed!
Scary is the right word. She is a fierce tour de force. I had no idea where this series was going. The finale floored me.
