Trofoot: For real-----even white people are getting sick and tired of the same old narratives about white people done over and over again, and being more receptive to stories being told from people who aren't white or male for a change because they're different, which is really good.
"A theft of consent." What a brilliant concept! Nuance matters. Thank you both Michaela and Trevor for this great conversation. And Michaela for your AMAZING show.
In contract law, if you conceal or neglect to inform the other party of a significant fact that could affect their decision to agree, it's the same as active deception and the contract can be nullified. So the concept has existed for a long time, just not applied as openly to sexual relationships.
Netflix totally low balled this beautiful talented black women and I am glad she found a much better fit for her show than what they were offering. I hope this can serve as a lesson that you can't just say Black Lives Matter when you are not willing to pay your workers what you know they are worth.
They didn’t just low ball her, they wanted to completely own the copyright to the show. She wanted to keep ownership, or at least a percentage of the copyright. I’m also glad she didn’t take the deal.

Watching I May Destroy You without knowing anything beforehand was the best decision. Michaelas talent and insights are just unmatched. Love all of her work.
Trevor.. I think you may be one of the top 10 men out there. Your empathy and understanding of a women’s perspective and your desire to understand is truly healing to my soul. I really hope you read and take in this gratitude. It is very genuine. And as a comic especially... to be able to hold your own so powerfully without sexism and actually while dissecting and exposing sexism. You may be the only male comic doing this. And you are doing it powerfully. And you are making a big difference in the world.
yeah. I was happy to hear her here with Trevor. I have listened to some interviews with Michaela about this show and many interviewers were really phoning it in.
This show is so brilliant. I had no idea she was also the writer and creator of the show. That is a huge amount of work to take on. She’s an outstanding creative and powerful voice I hope we get to hear from for ages.

I’ve been a bit obsessed with her ever since watching her in Chewing Gum. Happy to see she’s being recognized for her amazing work in I May Destroy You.
The Best! Absolutely love her! What a brilliant show she created. It leaves such an imprint on you. The series forces you to examine so many important questions and challenges your initial reaction to certain situation in the best of ways. Just amazing work. And the music, the acting, the humour on top of everthing else - perfection!
Yes to everything! Yes to the conversation, the nuance of the show, and it being about everything! Cuz it really is. And a special yes to her depiction of periods and pulling a tampon out during sex and the discussion around the blood clot. This was the first time I’ve seen this type of reality depicted on screen
Excellent interview. I’m a soon to be 69 yr old woman and the series blew me away. It was very thoughtful, provocative and insightful. Her monologue in episode 8 caused me to burst into tears as it so aptly conceptualized some of my own experiences in a few different kind of relationships. They were tears of affirmation along with instilling a sense of confirmation. Needless to say, she brings a whole lot to the table!

Beautiful. My daughter introduced me to her show and ever since I was hooked. She have a lot to say about everything although society still wants to suppress us from discussing and understanding. Michaela, thank you so much for a Awesome new, refreshing open mind show. Love the part about the period, 100% true. Please, please, don’t stop writing and bringing these important discussions on your show. I can wait for your next. ❤️😊👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
Theft of consent and herpes. Do a show about that. I always told my friends who are victims of this that they were essentially raped. And that trauma literally never goes away. So, it's a small relief to hear it being spoken of publicly as a crime.
She’s absolutely amazing. That’s all I can say. I love the show! Haven’t seen a show in a long time that forces you think and consider and reflect. It’s just simply amazing
I met Michaela Coel in Ghana yesterday and she was just very thing. She so humble, kind, polite and down to earth 🌍. Just the few hours I communicated with her and I must say she is the nicest person I have ever met❤️
Whew, a friend suggested I watch the show right after I turned 18. The best suggestion of my life, I wish I could go back to the first time I watched the series. Such a/an captivating, uncomfortable, moving, educational, eye-opening, riveting and amazing experience. The writing of the show is the best I have seen thus far, it is simply the best show ever. It is also going to withstand the test of time because it forever remains relevant to everything happening in the world. Thank you so much Michaela for this undeniable masterpiece!

Hilarious comedy turning into social commentary in *"Chewing Gum"* , a criminal drama that turns into a closer look at war, racism and international politics in *"Black Earth Rising"...* And now, *"I may Destroy You"* - starting out being a story about sexual assault but then goes on to cover... well... Yes, it was certainly triggering as they say in places, but what is hidden shall always be revealed. Love her! Can't wait to see what's next!
She is the best actor I've seen in probably 20 years. She is OUTSTANDING. She first caught my eye in "Top Boy" and blew me completely away in "Black Earth Rising" (BBC/Netflix).

This was beautifully written. I agree wholeheartedly.

@Daniel Hostetler Uh, no... I'm talking about contract law. Hence my use of the phrase "in contract law." Torts are a separate issue.
Michaela Coel is STUNNING 😍
Her bone structure is straight from the Gods! Stunning is a perfect description. 👍

Netflix totally low balled this beautiful talented black women and I am glad she found a much better fit for her show than what they were offering. I hope this can serve as a lesson that you can't just say Black Lives Matter when you are not willing to pay your workers what you know they are worth.
Netflix is super shitty to their creators ... what a shame.
They didn’t just low ball her, they wanted to completely own the copyright to the show. She wanted to keep ownership, or at least a percentage of the copyright. I’m also glad she didn’t take the deal.
HBO has traditionally been friendly to diverse creators.

She is such an interesting and intelligent women! And beautiful! She's got a face that you would never be able to forget. :) Love the show, too!
Her cheeks goes on for days. The bald look is very hard to do right, but she pulls it off.
