The Pod Mod can perform in small and big surf. Im in Indo at the moment and 2 days ago we had suddenly a big swell. My 6’0 Holy Grail was a bit to small, so tried the Pod Mod 6’2. It was crazy fast, in solid 2x overhead Indo waves. Thruster set up. I thought it would be a bit slow, but I got speeds of 43 km/h on some waves, so The Pod Mod is a good all around board😃
That’s epic and stoked you scored some fun indo surf. I agree - it’s a really versatile board and can def handle when it gets bigger. Only times it can be a bit challenging is when it’s really top-to-bottom and pitching, since it doesn’t have the most rocker and the torq material is esp stiff. That being said, we have some swell here in California right now and had it out in 6/7ft surf yesterday and performed great. Especially since it was a little softer on the face and you needed more volume to paddle in. Thanks for the comment!
It is similar to Surftech (I remember those - think was kinda light blue color?). In the end, I would not recommend if you want the PU feel. Torq floats well but is very corky and the board itself is very hard. So not as much flex. If you like the pod mod shape just search for a PU version.
Nice one, looking at getting the 6’6 as a mid board coming from a 7’0 soft top, looking at this or a TORQ , seems these are lighter and TORQ are apparently much heavier? Does it hold up to dings well? Thanks
Hey thanks for the comment. The 6’6 would be perfect for you I think. The board in this video being ridden is a Torq Pod Mod. Compared to a soft top, TORQ is prob a similar heft. It can be a bit heavy compared to PU (regular board). For you, the extra float of sturdiness of Torq will help. They are rather cheap too compared to the competition. The heaviness is a compromise to them being bullet proof and not dinging as easy as a regular board. I’d say give it a go - either styles of the 6’6 Pod mod will work well - the Torq being an easier transition to a regular board and more ding proof at the cost of being heavier.

I live in Chile and waves are usually on the real big side so maybe the extra Length is a good mood. Just wondering if I will be able to move it around a lot easier than the soft top which is like a log to me hahahaha
@@ekphotographyOh for sure, compared to a soft top, will def be easier to move. Especially in the tail region, you'll notice it will be a bit more maneuverable back there. Get a good pair of fins (I'd recommend a tri 3 set) based on your weight and should be good. Yes the extra length and float will help in bigger surf.
@@TravisVarga I have 2 options, a mint used 6'2 TORQ Pod MOD or a new 6'6 one, the used is 150.00 less but mint and wondering which do you think would be better for my weight and height. I am 5'11 and 1/2 and 150 lbs aprox, been surfing all my life but just recently getting back in shape after several surgeries and been doing great on a 7'0 soft top and need something that turns easier.. But do not want to struggle paddling and catching waves. Any thoughts? Thanks. does 4 inches make a Big difference?
My favorites are the AM tri-fin template in either medium or large, depending on your size (170lbs and under medium, 175 and up large, as a reference). Naked Viking Surf (NVS) makes an ‘AM Comp’ fin fun that’s great for it.
It can also go as a quad, but I find it ‘too much fin.’ And it can go also as a twin, but not ideal (altho I am riding it as a twin with a stabilizer in this video). It’s super loose and not designed to go as a twin, but is fun.
Hi! Great review of this board! I'm 52 and my shoulders are a bit tired, so I prefer nowadays board with more volume. More waves more fun! Right? As I can watch from here, in my best daysI have a surf level close to yours, so with my 6´2 height and 185 lbs, you recomend the model 6´6? Many thanks!!
Yeah for sure, that be perfect. Be really sick - and that’s the biggest size it comes in. The shape is great for riding like a fish/longboard- then can get a bit radical when needed.
Noob question: How much less glide would the 5'10 have compared to 6'2 in these conditions? I ride week waves most of the year currently on a 6'8 41 ltr torq mod fun.
Thanks for the comment. If you have your current board at 41L, that’s basically the same as the 6’2 pod mod, while the 5’10 has 36ish. So if you like that amount of volume I wouldn’t go lower. Generally speaking, more volume and length on the board = more glide - esp if same model of board. So the 6’2 I’d say. If you want somethin more for in the pocket and tight turning that can pivot quicker, go the 5’10. So prob 20-30 percent less glide if had to make it math lol.

I was actually watching this very video at the shop before confirming my purchase lol.. There was actually a 5’6” version of this I was so close to getting, but went w the 6’2” as the size and everything would fair better in the long run from Mushy to Overhead waves. Keep u posted for sure! Crazy how there is so much volume given the sizing.. The volume for this 6’2” board is equivalent to that of boards much bigger.
I’m 5’10 and 170-175 pounds. You could be up to 200 pounds and the 6’2 in the Torq material will still work great - it’s a bit more buoyant than standard PU. I like a little extra foam too - let me know if that helps and if you have any other questions. Can’t go wrong having one of these in your quiver.

Does the Torq feel like the original Surftech boards? Have you ridden a Surftech? I had one 20 years ago and remember not liking the feel vs PU.

How tall are you and how much do you weigh? I need information for understanding 6.2 channel island ...
