This video is much better than a lot of the other videos on this subject because you actually explain things rather than showing just diagrams. So a thumbs up and thank you :-)
I'm pretty sure I have a problem with the ulnar nerve at the elbow from this and other information I have seen. A very gentle tap on the back of my arm just above the elbow joint can give me the not so funny "funny bone" sensation, which would normally require a lot more of a knock to trigger. I've been referred by my doctor but it's nearly a 6 month wait to see a neurologist for the nerve path tests that you described. It's concerning to me that this will cause muscle wasting as I have very little ability to move my fingers sideways as it is. The NHS at it's best :-(

Not sure if it's tennis or Ulnar because I only get needly prickly pain right at the elbow bone ( olecranon) when my arm is bent and I lay on my side. Dr, do you know for sure or have clear idea what this could be?

    What about tricep massaging?
The last 2 weeks to a month both of my arms numbs when i sleep.Basically in all positions. It helps very much to sleep on an incline position though.
When I flex my fist ,my pinky and ring finger kinda stuck for while in this position.
I stopped working out to rest my arms.
I can't figure out what caused it.All my life I was sleeping this way and I never had any pain when I was training.
I do many rowing exercises though.
The interesting thing is that my long heads of the triceps gets sore!
it seems that my long head of the triceps gets involved more in the movements that I keep my elbow straight or isometrically flexed.
    Are those things linked?
Is there something else that I can do?
Thank you very much for your content!

This condition is 2 weeks old for me. It occurred suddenly. It's really annoying. I'm watching videos like this and on nerve sliding. Was hoping for more instant results. I can feel the pressure in my funnybone elbow divit. It causes my forearm to feel tingling from the elbow to the wrist and numbness in the pinky and ring fingers as well as the fleshy part of my palm. I use an elbow brace with rods to prevent bending, but feel soreness by the morning.

Fantastic, lucid explanations. I have bilateral ulnar nerve pain at the elbow, and razor blade pain all along the ulnar to the pinky. No tingling or numbness, or wasting but lots of burning sensations. pain at the fleshy part of thumb, and around it, Different waves of pain, 1.5 years but mostly constant. 15+ years computer work. worse with computer/phone activity, keeping elbow bent, leaning hands ulnar side. Also driving hurts.
Saw 3 orthos who recommended decompression. then saw 2 peripheral nerve surgeons, recommended *against surgery, each did their own EMG. 1st: moderate to severe damage, 6 mo later 3 EMGs perfect normal. recent elbow MRI showed swelling/inflm at elbow and above. Tried PT/OT/ergo changes, rest. 3 surgeons say it's psychosomatic/depression causing pain. Yes pain is created in the mind, but this feels very specific, not like fibro or other vague pain. No clue what to do next. Any thoughts?

Hello Doctor Freilich. I hope you can answer my following questions. I have not gotten an official diagnosis but my primary doctors believe that I have this syndrome. I currently have it on both of my arms because I never realized my bad posture. I believe that it resulted from bad postures on the computer and leaning my arms on desks. I never knew the serious dangers of such things. Most of my pain comes from below my elbow and into the forearm, on the ulnar side of my arm, whenever I do most of my usual tasks during the day. That is the same area which I would lean on while on a desk. I have not felt tingling in my little finger or the finger next to it. My little finger is mildly numb throughout the day but most of that numbness did not occur until after I started doing the typical glide exercises. I would like your professional imput to know if I probably have this symptom or not, knowing very well it is my responsibility to follow my own doctor's advice. The results from the conservative treatment you mentioned are very good news and I thank you for the video.

I had the beginning stages of cubital tunnel syndrome from doing art work. I used the same approach as I used to get rid of carpal tunnel syndrome: A strong, north pole side touching the skin, therapeutic magnet taped over the affected area with Nexcare tape.
If my CTS starts to act up, the magnet makes the problem go away. Placing two high gauss (strong) magnets at the elbow in the right places also made that problem stop. I have also learned better ergonomics.

Hello its me again. So i fixed my cubital tunnel syndrom on my left hand. However, somehow, it happened to me on right hand too. Despite me being causious about having hands on table etc. I wanted to ask few questions:
    a) Does the ulnar flossing exercises work even when tests showed that my damage area is ~4cm below elbow (that bone)?
    b) Do you have any elbow split recommendation - I've tried like half dozen of them and to this day my fav. option is thicker tower wraped with medical wrap around it. and sleeping on stomach to have the nerve on top side and not lying on the bed.
I've done electro test and in month going for ultrasound or something "new" to see how the nerve works even better. So will have more details, will have to go to PT again, as exercises from last time were I presume more meant agaisnt muscle wasting. Last time it was severe damage, now its between mild to medium more to mild.

Hello Doctor Freilich. My main issue of the last few days has been irritation in the muscle at the side of the hand under the pinky (ADM?) Moment's of tingling and warmth but not much numbness. The symptoms are most noticeable when using a mouse for the computer (which I use a lot, sadly). I have extreme anxiety which helps make these sensations worse, I'm sure. Doing the muscle test you showed in this video might suggest it's weak, assuming I'm not over-worrying, while the thumb test you showed seemed nice and strong. The main giveaway for you though, may be the fact that I get these sensations over the back of the hand too near the tendon of the pinky. Resting on the side of the little finger is irritable too. I cannot remember if you said this was more a sign of Ulnar Tunnel Syndrome or Ulnar nephropathy. I have had a habit of banging my fist on my desk in the past year or so when getting stressed or angry at certain things, which I worry might have brought this on. At times I do feel some tenderness in my inner elbow too. Not many of the test stretches seem to make things worse, just mainly putting any sort of pressure on that little finger and the muscle along with it. I also play the violin, and hope that the elbow is not being troubled by the motion of the right bowing arm.

Hi Freny, not sure what to say but I'd be surprised if the nerve itself has been damaged. Alternative problems could be considered with the bones, joints, tendons or ligaments and perhaps a hand surgeon or rheumatologist would be best placed to give an opinion. Bw Simon

Hello Dr. Freilich I'm reaching out today because I'm seeking help for my condition. I have had carpal tunnel release surgery done on both wrists and cubital tunnel release surgery done on both elbows. The carpal tunnel surgery was 12 years ago and has been successful. I still have some nerve damage in my right wrist however it's manageable and at this time I do not believe I need a repeat surgery. Sadly the owner release and transposition surgery did not work as well for me. Before surgery I had numbness and burning pain from my elbow to the tip of my small finger and ring finger in a line that went halfway down to my finger and into the palm of my hand. The EMG tests I had done before surgery did not show any signs of all the nerve compression. However do to my symptoms and feedback to the doctor it was decided we would do an ulnar nerve transposition surgery on both elbows. It is also important that I mentioned that I was having neck pain for a while before my elbow surgery. I went to see a neck surgeon and he said look to your elbows first take care of those and then come see me again if the problem doesn't go away. Currently I'm at the 3-year mark post-surgery. I still have burning pain and numbness on the small finger side of my hand and down past my wrist about 2in into my form and I still have that line in the center of my ring finger that goes down to my palm. It's hard for me to distinguish if I have one or more nerve compression points and whether it's in my elbow my hand a forearm above my elbow where it can be in trapped in the faccia or my neck. Yesterday I had another EMG test my last one was a year ago pair. The test results were negative for any nerve compression. I had the pads put on my forearm and also the second part of the EMG was the actual needles through the skin and into the muscles. What is really confusing to me is they can see the carpal tunnel in my right hand however my symptoms are very light and easy to deal with I sleep with no braces at night on my wrist. I do know when I overdo it and I keep my braces for those occasions where I might need them but I've never had to wear them for more than a week. my symptoms from the ulnar nerve are far far worse and intense and I'm not being seen by the EMG. scans on my next show normal degradation for 51 year old but I can feel a tension in my neck and like a pressure in my neck in around the lower left side and lower to Mid right side of my neck. I don't want to be too long-winded here and I really appreciate your time and I don't expect much in return but it would be great if you could chimed in with your professional opinion. With no EMG report to support my ongoing symptoms what are my options. Can anything else cause these symptoms... Scarring etc...
Thank you in advance for anything you can offer.

@@DrSimonFreilich Hi and thank you for your reply. Yes Ive had three MRI scans on my neck in the last two years. It showed the nower keft side and mid right side has some issues... Degradation of the spine. I also had an exray that showed that the curve in my neck is not there... My neck is too straight. Add to that there are bone spurs at the tips of the vertibrae that are clearly encrouching on my spine.

Hi I was waiting to reply as I recently had an EMG exam performed. I was told it is 70% accurate when the conditions are at best. My ulnar nerve is showing no concerns. This test was done with the pads that stick to your skin. The next test was the acupuncture style needle directly into the muscle and that showed no problems in my neck for the ulnar nerve. I am still experiencing quite a bit of nerve pain I have been told that I may have permanent nerve damage however I was doing much better just three months ago I had a flare-up so it'll syrup tells me that I still have a point of impingement that can aggravate the nerve. I'm looking for some advice on how to proceed next as the tester showing I should be good. I believe it would be good if I knew all the common or possible impingement points. Then I could test each point to see where the actual problem lies. Any advice you could offer I would really appreciate. Thank you and talk soon

My doctor did no test like emg or something, just 'feel tests' like press this, do this. And sent me do some exercises - not much help... I am scared my nerve will 'be pernamently dead/demaged' by the time doctor decides to send me do emg or something. Btw elbow splinting was not advised to me wyth doctor sayng he is scared that nerve would become more pressed. Been 2 weeks now and you said 12 week - do the muscles/nerve not die that fast?

I did go see a neurology doctor - been attending physical therapy and electrotherapy. Movement ability has improved (stretch fingers apart is lacking most) and grip strength has improved too. The numbness has decreased and is replaced or complemented by pain in the area below pinky - palm (only if pressed ). Other than that I feel my elbow is stiff while doing exercises (from the doctor - not gym). They told me its a long journey but its improving. I hope its true and not some signs of nerves going bad even more. Oh, and I am on some strong B complex in pills and injections.

I have pain in my little and ring fingers, my elbow, not just the medial epicondyle, but the other side too, the boney part of the outside of the elbow. I also have pain in my index finger. I noticed I had what appeared to be an artery/vein pop to the surface of my arm on the inside of my forearm, up near the elbow. Ever since then I've had this problem. I've had a couple of ultrasounds to check that and they couldn't find anything wrong. Unfortunately, my gym days are long behind me now.
