    I'm in a dry state and my home only reaches 30% on a good day. I've found that the more plants I bring in, the more my humidity goes up 😊 I used to have 2 cheaper humidifiers going but quickly learned that without purified water, it created a hard water film that got stuck to my walls, furniture and floors...well, everywhere 😅 it was also a pain in the 🍑 to have to refill & sanitize. No thanks! I did however adopt the Ikea cabinet to greenhouse trend and so all my high humidity loving 🪴 thrive there.
    Editing cause I forgot that I also have taken over our bathroom cause that's a great place for plants too

    There are two sides to every story......I am glad you approached the issue of too much as opposed to too little humidity as there are many other ways to successfully care for your plants and protect your living environment too.....

    Great advice. We have so much wood furniture and wood floors, there isn't really anywhere I could safely run a humidifier without damaging something. I do have a fish tank that helps a little, but I think you're right, watering plants sufficiently is the best way to keep them healthy.

    Good video. So true about humidity! I’m in Florida and with my ac on and a dehumidifier on my humidity runs between 60 & 70%. I have a Stromanthe triostar and some Marantas that seem to be doing well at that level.

    Spot on, I fell into that trap recently, prior to this I never worried about it. I noticed a strong earthy/damp smell in my dining room so I stopped using a humidifier there. In my green house I use a humidifier that brings it to 60% max and they are very happy.

      Yesss your home starts to smell like a rainforest. I also noticed that it’s less noticeable when the humidity is lower.

    I actually haven’t ventured into the higher humidity plants because I didn’t think they would survive in my house. I live in Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia so we have a higher humidity naturally, especially in the summer. My living room has a southeast window and I have a window seat under the window so I have most of my plants there, close together. That also helps bring up the humidity. One day I’ll get brave enough to buy Alocasia and Calathea.
    Thank you for explaining your views. It’s very helpful! 💜

    this is really helpful because ive been trying to nail the humidity for my calathea and its a bit of relief to rule that out. im in fl and it got pretty cold this time around but i was still trying to find the ideal placement, mediums and watering frequency. i have a compact humidifier now and plan to use it for generally now instead of running it consistently. our rainy days helps a ton and saves me refilling so frequently.

    I live in Scottsdale, Arizona - humidity today is 7% and going up to 16% overnight. Using an Elechomes humidifier am able to get the humidity to low 30s% but have to fill it twice daily. Didn’t start using a humidifier until July, 2020 and have plants in areas of my home where humidity is lower and they’re doing fine, including two calatheas. Like another commenter, I’m getting really tired of the grey ‘dust’ that settles all and sticks to everything over my house including glasses and dish ware in cabinets. Using 14 x 1 gallon jugs of distilled water every week is not going to happen, as even with distilled water there is still dust. Even with the extra humidity this summer, plants are needing their summer watering schedule - extra humidity has not changed much in the way the soil dries out. HVAC is getting a check up next month, so will ask if there is anything I can do about dust and humidity - from what I’ve read, probably nothing that is not going to cost $$$. Am going to try gradually acclimatizing my plants to less humidity. Like the new angle but you look good from any angle. How’s Saje and the birds?

    Hmmmm, very interesting and informative! I never bought humidifiers, and I almost felt guilty (almost) 😂
    But I appreciate both your perspective and experience on this topic 🙌🏾🙂
    I’m glad that you took care of that mold issue in your apartment too wow!
    PS- I like your new angle/back drop, but I have to admit, I love your decor aesthetic, so hopefully I’ll still see some of your wood furniture.

    Where I live in the Midwest the natural humidity in my home has ranged from 30% to 90%, and that's without a humidifier. I don't normally climate control unless it's very cold or hot, so everyone is at the mercy of mother nature and open windows right now. The average range does fall within 40-60% the majority of the time, though

  • @rebeccamrkve9013

    This is also my experience ! I have around 40% in my home, and my plants are realy happy with that. My calateas and stromanthies dont have much browing, i think they brown if you forget to water them.
    But cuttings do love and grow faster roots if given above 80%, wich is possible in a plastic bag ^^

    Definitely a well needed discussion and something I feel like I’m having an issue with and need to address.
    I’m in Houston and at this very moment 10a in June, it is 75% humidity outside 🙄
    My apartment is already not very well ventilated as I only have relatively small windows front and back, so I definitely struggle with humidity and mold issues inside, even without plants being involved.
    I’ve actually decided to put off getting a nice big humidifier for now, I only use smaller units strategically placed and have been running them a lot less now that’s it’s so warm out. And I keep all my fans on and air conditioning at night.
    I still think it’s too high and I def don’t think some of my plants like it but I’m working on it

    My downstairs has a humidifier hooked up to the a/c unit, and that keeps my downstairs at 40%. There is not one hooked up to the upstairs unit, so I put all my humidity loving plants in my bedroom with a humidifier in only that one room. I keep the humidity in this room at 60% is what I shoot for, but after we take our showers it can raise up over 70 for a short while. But this is where all my prayer plants and alocasias are kept.

    Thank you for another great video! Enjoyable as always. I live in Charlotte, NC and our humidity is adequate for most plants., we are fortunate. I also think that with me buying many of my plants when they were smaller, they adjusted to their environment and grew with the only climate they had ever known. There is something to be said for us being capable of adapting. Fortunately there are many beautiful plants available for those of us who are not inclined to purchase humidifiers. I do place plants that benefit from more moisture in areas of kitchen and bathrooms. I also use a few pebble trays and aromatherapy vessels. We don’t get crazy and It’s all good! 👌🌿🥰💚

    In NC the Summers are very humid, so no problem. However in the Winter the heat is on and the windows are closed. Often the humidity level goes down the to 25%. Then, even with a humidifier on 24/7, I'm lucky to get it to 50% in a closed room. My plants definitely need @ least 50% to be happy.

    • @RootingMindfully
      @RootingMindfully  3 роки тому

      Oh wow. 25% is low. Atleast the Summer makes up for it.

  • @mspurefunk5
    @mspurefunk5 3 роки тому

    First yes I like the angle. It’s nice to see the bigger space.
    Second, how come the humidity in your apartment is so high?
    Right now in my house with AC running my humidity averages about 60% or less.
    I don’t think my plants have a problem with the humidity it’s my watering that I haven’t got down yet.
    Lastly, it’s hard to give just flat answers as you know because the humidity levels & light levels change in house per season. Some spots where I get direct sun in winter, I don’t get in summer but then it’s for a shorter time. My humidity in winter only averages 30% so Inrun humidifiers.
    I feel the same as you. I think that humidity is fussed about too much. Watering is most important then light. I’m a heavy waterer so I’ve already had problems with spider mites, gnats & root rot. Not mold thank God.

    Thank you for this video.My moisture is 80 Percent only because its been raining the last couple of days its normally 50 to 60 percent And I have 2 30 gallon wish tanks and a mirrored waterfall I have 2 humidifiers but I dont use them unless it goes below 40. You would think with the 3 water sources it would be higher than 50 percent I am having to put water in my tanks every 2 days it that 3 gallons IM having o replace and the fountain omg every day it evaporates so fast . You have helped me save so many plants before I found you I was watching planterina with Amanda and she says let your plants dry out completely before watering all my Aglaonemas died my Maranta and calathea almost died but now they are doing better I will get some more aglaonemas I had a pink and red one but died letting them dry out too much I still have the emerald beauty its looking better . Because of your helpful videos all my plants are doing better from watering to lighting and humidity so thank you again for all the help. Yes I like your set up Its looks real good .
