I cannot fathom that you put all this together yourself - this is literally “tv quality” production that would normally take a huge team, a bunch of time, and money - the fact you smashed this out is really amazing…!
If he does indeed do this solo then I’m very impressed (of which I am with most of, if not all of his content). Taking the footage is one thing, particularly shots of him driving by or leaving a car park, where presumably he just leaves the camera rolling on its own…..and hopes it remains when he goes back to get it 😂. However stitching it all together must be the hard part and without taking anything away I would assume at this stage that Sam has a person / small team working away on it for him to review and sign off before it goes live. He may even have a small crew with him on trips, you never know :-). As with the first video, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Unfortunately it was inevitable that it was the alternator. From experience, batteries rarely die when the car is running, it’s more after they’ve been left unused in the heat (which happens in my part of the world quite frequently).
Over 600k subscribers are huge, but I just don't understand why you do not have millions?! STG are on many levels the best automotive UA-cam channel out there... 🙌
I honestly think it’s bc he is harsh on brands he doesn’t like. He is not the type to say positive things about a car manufacturer for the sake of views or sponsorships. Therefore, his channel is not a favorite to the UA-cam algorithm and it doesn’t push his channel onto many ppls pages
He is smart with his money an TBH I would be the same way I love older vehicles an would stick with them maybe one brand new vehicle but other than that nah
What I love the most about Sam is his perspective. Even when he has gripes or a bit of a shock, he is still so grateful and sees the new experience as unique and an opportunity for growth and fun. I just love that outlook on life.
And it's a breath of fresh air in the car UA-camr world... There's so much entitlement and self importance from some other UA-camrs that shall remain unnamed.
Great show Sam. Thanks. I'm still driving my '98 986 daily in SA. Now on 250k (kms), its still pure joy and maintained by myself like brand new. Love it to bits.
Sam this trip was a breath of fresh air! Anyone could grab a Boxster, sort the belts and tyres then nip across all those stunning States. You don’t need to spend £100k plus to live your best life… All credit to Porsche for building them to last, and this was a supposed period of corner cutting!
Everyone saying he’s been “ripped off” has never owned a Porsche. I think if you shopped around it’s about a $1800-2000 set of repairs. A $500 premium to squeeze him in same day and likely work late and/or early the next day isn’t crazy at all. Labor is $185 and $195 per hour at the new dealers near me in the Midwest just as a reference point.
Whenever Hoovie and the like talk about cost of repairs it seems huge compared to the UK, so doesn't surprise me; but still a bit shocking when I'd probably have fixed it myself for a few hundred sterling.
It’s remarkable how something can be a profound experience for so many people, while others will just say, ‘Oh, that’s neat,’ and move on. The folks who feel emotional and humbled are my kind of people. I’m not a religious man, but if I were, I couldn’t think of a better example to point to as proof of God’s grandeur.
I met an American woman in Japan from Flagstaff city which is near the Grand Canyon, so I was excited to get her impression of the GC yet she claimed never to have gone there. Unbelievable!
Thanks. I heard about this trip on SCR, spikes car radio…& have thoroughly enjoyed traveling with you. In the spring of ‘25 I will be doing this trip in a boxster as well. My retirement gift to myself after 38 years. Am so looking forward to this. Thank you again. Cheers!
This is how I want to live my life. Taking my Porsche for a trip, with friends, seeing all these beautiful places the world has to give to us. Man, that was a great video, thank you for taking us along with you.
Seen Through Glass is definitely the best car UA-cam channel. Such beautiful camera work as always. Lovely to see a channel that isn’t obsessed with rattling off 0-60 times.
Sam, I can’t even begin to imagine how much work went into this (and all of the others) video. Amazing photography, videography, editing, production etc. To echo all of the other comments, it’s incredibly impressive the amount of work that goes into producing one of these videos. Also, from one new dad to another, I’m sure you are missing your family, so i hope you have a great trip and thank you for making this content!
What a lovely road trip in a good old Boxster 986. Spectacular shots and some nice little "christmas lights in the display" scary moments. Amazing, Sam. Can't wait for part 3.
I could have watched for another hour. You have a way to document your stories that keeps us hooked. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your experiences on this journey.
Thanks for giving the 986 Boxster some love! I've had my 01S almost twenty years. Its a wonderful car to drive and as you discovered, 4K RPM and above is the sweet spot for fun and a big smile. wait until you hit Highway 1 in California. Enjoy the journey.
I have a Cayman 981 GT4 which I don't think I will ever sell. Now, I want to buy a pre-owned, good quality Boxster and drive it across the US specifically because of this video. Amazing production and editing. This is really a "Hall of Fame" video from what I presume is a not-professional UA-cam provider.
Usually i just watch UA-cam videos, maybe like but rarely comment, but i think you deserve all the support you can get seeing the things you've been through, keep going sam ❤
Unbelievable quality videos Sam! We had a similar issue with a 996 Turbo on our channel! But... it took a Porsche main dealer wayyyy longer to fix and even more in cost! Looking forward to more videos!
Sam, this is one of my favourite videos you’ve done. Thank you so much for sharing this. Ii loved the glamming experience. This episode brought back many happy memories. Done so much of this bit of your trip myself. I had a magical time in monument valley, riding horses for 2 days with Navajo Indians. Glad to have been taken back with you. Wish my friend pip could have watched this with me.
Loving the Kara and Nate style coffee montage😂. This is exactly what I’m here for, great cars on great roads going to cool locations and accommodation. Superb Sam
OUTSTANDING video Sam!!!!! I've done road trips across Canada/USA a couple of times, just like yours so far, absolutely epic!!!! Looking forward to watching the rest of your journey.
I can’t say how much I enjoyed this roadtrip. Was out west myself 12 years ago, and Grand Canyon left me speechless as did the numerous viewpoints and the breathtaking landscape. Great car to do it in. Cheers, Tom
Belts alternator wiring labour suppose it’s not that bad a price considering it’s an import car & you got it done priority.. great content really enjoying this road trip 👍👍🙏🇬🇧
In the past 14 years my wife and I have purchased 10-12 Porsches (all used). Of those 6 have needed a new battery right off the bat. Like 4 have died within 48 hours of purchasing. Including two Cayman S's and a GT4. And I also specifically owned your make/model/year of your Boxster S and the only problems I ever had with it was electrical. LOL. Great vid. That little 2002 is just a gem.
ThanKs, Sam. So much fun to see you driving through my old stomping grounds (the 4 corners) in my car (I have a black '03 boxster S). Really enjoying this series of videos.
Quick trick I'm sure someone else has mentioned. An easy quick check to see if it's the alternator or not: Start the car, take off the negative cable while it's running. If the car dies, it's the alternator. If it continues to run, its the battery or something else, but not the alternator. You can touch the negative cable with your bare hands, just not negative and positive at the same time! haha
You're absolutely right about the grand canyon. For me it was breathtaking Ács made me ponder on life and discovered there was life before and after the grand canyon
You made a great choice for this drive! Fun and practical and most of all, reliable - other than rat chewed wires to cause the only issues. Looking forward to seeing more of this epic journey.
Sam you are just amazing. The most genuine car youtuber there is! I have followed you since the early days and loved every moment. Outstanding content!
Sam, awesome job with this one. Could have been an 3 part with this crossing the country for sure. Guess you have enough footage to do that. The quality of this all is just amazing.
Agree with you about the Grand Canyon you have to see it to truly appreciate it. I had pre booked a 20 min helicopter flight when I went but as I was on my own I was offered a one hour flight with another group for no extra cost which was amazing.
For those of us who REALLY enjoy a ride in the car (I spent 25 years driving tractor-trailer across this country and never saw anything but the interstate, with an occasional treat), you should share that itinerary. Some of those views are intriguing.

Watching this with production glasses on.... it is excellent and waaaay above solo youtuber levels of editing and drone image taking.
this
I thought you were talk rubbish ,, but after watching it I agree with you 100% .. very good quality , how he does the shots its just him in car ,,
@@markthoughtswithukrainemas2072because Sam is a perfectionist. He always has been . Just amazing

Sam doesn’t play the UA-cam game of buying lambos but he’s constantly had views over the last decade. That pays more in the long run imo
If he can't tell the difference between a battery failure and an alternator failure, then this is a travel channel not an automotive channel.
@@tn18977this may come as a shock to you, but some people can enjoy cars without knowing their workings inside out. In fact, most don't.

Easy to be like that on camera.
@@mattmorris2867 Do you feel like Sam is faking it? I’ve always got the sense he’s being genuine after several years of watching.

My thoughts exactly. I'm in the DFW metroplex and I thought the pricing he got was fair, given the circumstances.
Still expensive for an alternator change and knock sensor?? I woulda thought $1000.. couple of hours job and some parts..but then I don't know USA
@@UmmahGuidance It's a Porsche lol, $1,000 is extremely low imo.
Whenever Hoovie and the like talk about cost of repairs it seems huge compared to the UK, so doesn't surprise me; but still a bit shocking when I'd probably have fixed it myself for a few hundred sterling.
It’s high. I guess a convenience charge.

Boxster with the red rock canyon in the background gives old school Need for Speed vibes. Love it 👍
STG is the best UA-cam station 👍😁

I hope you're really proud of these last two videos Sam - some of your best on the channel to date. Really enjoyed watching them! 😊
I could watch 1000 hours of road trips in the American West and never tire of seeing it.
awesome photography that captured the scenery spectacularly... lovin it !!
Truly spectacular! You have absolutely outdone yourself with this episode. Better than anything else on UA-cam or TV.
this is good oldschool STG content, absolutely love it, went to america this summer and just was an epic experience
Stunning trip, as well as the narration and video content!
Awesome work Sam on this whole US road trip - loving the content! Just need a “Team STG” hat now 😂
Beautiful cinematography!!
That's a lot of scenery Sam! Fantastic! Thanks for sharing. Enjoy Monterey M8. Cheers, John. UK.
You always forget how beautiful your own country looks until you see it through someone else's eyes
Great video, this is the kind of trip that any true car enthusiast, could take, since it should not cost the earth, and yet be a great adventure.
Was having a stressful day in work this video really chilled me out just what I needed it’s got me looking for flights to the states

Thank you Sam for bringing us along on one of your adventures yet again 👌

Fantastic story telling and photography Sam, thank you...

Great storytelling and filming … great job sam and thank you !
Another great video Sam. Amazing content again and big well done. I have been waiting all week to see part 2.
Great editing, song selections and above else, what a great attitude you have. I've enjoyed both videos. Looking forward to Part 3.
Thanks for the entertainment Sam! Enjoy the shows
