What is Self Amalgamating Tape

What is self amalgamating tape, and what do you use it for.

You should use this from the cable, right over the complete connectors to the cable and back... this will then give you a truly waterproof seal over the connection... BUT DO STRETCH IT FIRST OTHERWISE IT WONT FORM A SEAL.

Stretching it with the backing plastic still on makes it easier to remove the backing as it will break the plastic leaving a nicely exposed end to work with... No more fiddly picking at the ends to do!!

I grew up with a kid who was one taping fool, I dont think he owned anything that didn't have tape on it, if he found something without tape stuck to it, by golly he would get it wrapped up like lickety split...lol and for whatever reason or another when I see someone using tape, I think of all the crap this kid taped together, and I associate the use of tape, with someone who doesn't know how to fix anything the right way, I think i was subliminally traumatized over the use of tape!!!🤣👍
Personally I would have used a double walled shrink tubing for something like this but, I know Scotch makes something like this called 2228.

i use this stuff for my antenna connections, far far better than electrical tape..just be aware theirs some cheap crap out there that seems to destroy its self in the sun after a few weeks.. Pay that little bit more to get the good stuff, you know it makes sense..Buy cheap, buy twice, lessons learnt on my side..

@@matildaadventurer41 just avoid the cheap stuff on ebay and amazon, its better to buy the dearer rolls than the cheap, buy cheap buy twice and you save nothing in the end..

Actually it has to be used WITH electrical tape if you read the manufacturer's instructions. This should be applied to the connection from bottom to top. Then it should be covered with an abrasion-resistant electrical tape like Super 88, again from bottom to top.

@@matildaadventurer41 Go with a well-known brand like Scotch 3M or any of the other recognizable brands. Just don't get a chinese knock-off brand.

@@nilpo I have been using it on its own for 5 years on my out door antennas..No water ingress and the seals are as good as the day it was put on. Nothing was used underneath it, I will continue to use it in the exact same manner for the next 5 years or so..

Is it much different to standard PTFE tape? I've got a leaky shower water hose I want to tape up the leak.

I've never tried repairing a shower with it, but worth a try. Is the shower hose leaking from the hose end thread, or on the actual hose?

I think you have to stretch it at least 6 feet for it to seal

Thats how to do it... the contraction that then occurs makes the seal tighter and waterproof.
