OMG! A Chinese radio that doesn't have a flashlight in the center of the top? What is the world coming to?
Finally!
I’ve already contacted XI Jinping and assured me that the matter will take top priority, he apologized for the design flaw 😂
@@cornbread-KO5RN It could indeed cause a major diplomatic incident.
The loss of flashing lights on China domestic products is inexcusable,
I have a Yaesu handheld that has no flashlights. It says assemble in Japan from Chinese parts and diagrams. There is no light on it.

One of the things that really bugs me about all of these newer radios with the fancy screens is that they can make the VFO mode numbers nice and huge, but when you switch to channel mode they have these tiny little letters that are almost impossible to read. Why can’t they just make them big like the other ones???
I agree!
Big difference in this radio and the BTech GMRS PRO, this one transmits on all VHF and UHF frequencies. The BTech is a GMRS only radio. Can’t any of these Chinese companies produce a radio with the map screen right on the radio like the Garmin Rino ? Can’t wait till they accomplish this feat. Thanks for posting, you are the only one that wasn’t afraid to show your location on the map.
No problems, come visit!
Hey boy that's why you can connect this radio to your smartphone !!!! You can control EVERYTHING from your smartphone without using that tinny screen!!!!
@@temporarilyoffline BTW Rhino radios are garbage and outdated products ;)
@@gastonbarouille767 I strongly disagree, my RINO radios have survived decades of hard use.
Well, I checked tonight, and I did see this when you originally posted it. In any case this is one of my favorite niches in Ham radio, so one is on the way.
You know I had to give you a hard time!
The future is here!!! I've using BTECH PRO (GMRS only) radios for about a year and half and they are great!!! I left the HT in my car and use it from my smartphone. There are ton of use cases for them
I'm the USB charger with a rooftop mag mount? The 1-ton radio shack!
It's OEM by VGC with that firmware. It's the same as the BT for the N7500 and the BTECH GMRS.
You got that right. I think Vero is making some good progress.
I have a few expensive radios but only use them at home or on vacation. I have 31 “cheap” Chinese radios in a little collection that I use on a daily. It’s fun to pick a different radio to mess around with on my way out the door to start my day. Then when I get home I spoil myself. The radio I carry along with whatever I pick out is the HAG1 as I use GMRS too. It’s taken a beating but still works great.
Excellent, these are a fun way to play around!
This looks like it might actually be good for APRS and not too expensive. Crossing my fingers!
I'll be playing with it more in a future video.
Interesting. Also, just saw a "presell" from Retevis on a "C1" model. Lots of features, USB-C, color screen. Looks like a bunch of new radios on the horizon. Let's hope they are clean. 73
I took a look... 🤞
Dont worry. Ill not tell. In fact ill not even watch it. Your safe!
Plausible Denial... I Approve.
cheap clickbait titles is the fastest way of losing subscribers and deterring a new ones. Bye

I usually give a thumbs down 👎
Unsubscribe,and block.
I like this channel and he dosent make a habbit of it. But i didnt watch the video.
@@KA4UPW @StringerBell - if you watch the video, I got the radio before it was a public product as an eval unit and just before the release date I had to re-do a segment about how it was available for pre-order. You can see it in the video. It was just a fun/happy vid about a cool new radio... its not like its CNN here.
@@temporarilyoffline Clickbait title is clickbait. Cheap way to attract attention.
This is all I'm critiquing. I do not comment on the content of the video, because I didn't saw it.
That is the same app for the vcg vr-n7500 I love it for the motorcycle
The tri-fecta - the Vero VR-N7500, the Btech GMRS Pro and the Radioddity GA-5WB.
@@temporarilyoffline vcg actually came out with a ht version according to the guys over on their FB page. Never saw it up for sale over here. The developer of that app does not hardly support it. There have been some IOS versions of that app as well someone put together.
Noice. It's always good to see new radios with some nice features, like USB-C, bluetooth and APRS. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more.
You and me both!
Neat. Thanks, Steve. I'm curious to see how APRS works & if it will support messaging too. Looking forward to your next one.
You and me both!
I came here to say the same thing. This radio has me intrigued.
Freaky: I was watching this and right after your added end part about pre-order started, the pre-order email from Radioddity popped into my inbox.
I wish we planned it that way!
Their not listening, it's just your imagination, lol.
Not seeing all the features. A lot of radio's have PTT-ID encode. What about PTT-ID decode so you can see who's talking?
I'll have to play with PTT-ID - I'm guessing its not an agreed upon standard, or its morse code and nobody is decoding it ;-)
I like the orange accent on the volume button and ptt, gives the radio just enough flair. Sounds good, tnx Man!
Yeh, Subtle... but there. I dig it.
In the good ol days, phones had a fm radio app, was good for camping.
Phones are weird man.... Almost as weird as radios.
This video will self destruct in 5 seconds...
Right!
Ok, this is a MUST have. Great demo of the features, and app.
More to come!
Next thing to check is compatibility with APRSDroid
With the included app you don't need APRSDroid - but I'm hoping that there is a way to winlink/aprs with it off-radio. I'll have a video on that when I get my digipeater setup.
APRSDroid is a must have. If you think this HT app is enough you don't use APRS much at all. There's a lot to be desired. No APRSDroid, no purchase for me. Not worth it.
"You guys don't care about the backside."
Sir Mix-a-Lot: 😐
He was a radio guy too
I'm sure we all love a big battery.
Interesting.. in the aprs screen you noted "passcode" I wonder if this means it can Igate or maybe digipeat? Is there another reason you'd need a passcode?
That's the passcode I think it is looking for. I'll show more of it in a future video.
Nice looking radio that. And as for that ht app I use it for my retevis rt78 and it works a treat loads to play about with it great review I can't wait to see this radio for sale.
I didn't know it worked with the RT78 - BONUS!
Really cool decent price for all features it has nice having aprs built it
Nice Rig in your avatar!
Dang this looks cool! I've been looking for a cheap HT that does APRS beacon and messaging, I might pick one up but my only concern is that the app is the ONLY way to program it (besides the keypad). If the developer of the app ever goes under or stops updating the app then that would stink, hopefully in that scenario someone else can make a workaround.
But anyways I'd love to see a demo of the APRS features more in depth! (I'm also curious about any spurious emissions and RX/TX filtering)
I think it will get reverse engineered pretty quick if the app goes away.
Hi. Can you check the APRS. To see if it is usable in the USA. Thanks 73
Will do that in a future video. Stay tuned.
Will do 73
Yes it is. I use the same app with my Vero VGC VR N7500 radio.
Now it would be cool if they put that into their mobile radios...
Vero VR-N7500 does it: amzn.to/3vZY3Nf
Does it appear to find a GPS location without the app connected, and if so does it take a long time to find its position?
Hayden VK7HH said in his overview of the radio that the GPS position didnt fix until after his phone was connected, but that he couldnt tell if that was just the radio taking a long time to obtain a satellite lock.
I'm going to have to test some more. I've also reached out to support.
Is this the same radio as the VGC and Btech? All the same features? Guessing the original is made by VGC, but when Btech gets it they make their own firmware and minor spec changes.
Exactly 100% correct.
It's a shame it doesn’t use a stock Kenwood style mic plug. That adapter will be a shortcoming. Something to lose or break.
Right, we need another standard! I'd be ok with it not having that plug as long as BT/USB was "public"
Very cool!!
I'm pretty excited. Need to figure out how to get some data in/out of it next.
I already know I want one!
I want another one!
Very cool! 👍🏽
I agree!
More radios have gloss screens instead of matte it would be so muxh easier to read outside if they were matte. This includes phones and tablets
Its almost like these people don't even use their products.
@@temporarilyoffline and not a bad price $179
@@Chris_KI4WCO Thanks for letting me know - you could see at the end of the vid it was still $0.00 for me and "can't buy". Yeah, that's not terrible for all you're getting.
@@temporarilyofflineIt's not DMR? APRS is interesting. Not complaining, as I don't use the DMR much on the one I have that has it.
@@John_Ai9D Nope, not DMR.
But does it have stun function and a "compander"? Never did figure out what the sun function even was...
I didn't see stun in this radio. "compander" is a noise reduction technique made up of compressing and expanding the signal.
Pre-Order price is up. $179.99 (before any discount code)
Awesome, not a bad deal!

Yeah I sent a support message. Nothing yet.
I sent my contact a message, hope it makes an impact.

Glad you think so!
((One of my pet peeves.) Why say call sign and "for ID"? FCC gave us a call sign for ID! No need to say "for ID" because when we give our call sign we all know it is for ID. Speak clear, BRIEF and to the point.))
Cool Radio, thanks.
Yeah, Its the local custom here man, just being respectful. Also, the UA-cam police get on me if I don't ID when I'm on the radio. Dif'rent strokes
Because when you've been chatting with 5 or 6 other hams on the local repeater and then realize that nobody has identified for the last half hour, giving your callsign and adding "for ID" makes everyone else realize the same thing and give their callsign, causing everybody to be within a factor of 3ish of following the law. If you don't say "for ID", many of them won't realize why you said your callsign and will continue going on without identifying.
Not that the FCC is actually paying attention, mind you. It's also not that, if it were, it would care about the difference between not identifying for 30 vs. 60+ minutes. But it seems to correct some sort of minor imbalance in the universe. ;)
Because the addition of "for ID" is so unbrief. 🙄
Is it a superheterodyne radio or a soc system on a chip
I haven't opened it. But I'd bet SOC
Looks like a neat radio!
I agree, more testing needed!
@@temporarilyoffline definitely!
Sooooo, it's basicly a VR-N76 ??
Yep - this radio was "first to market", then Vero with the original brought theirs direct to the public, then Btech with the UV-Pro. This is an older video. I have a whole series of videos on unlocking the potential of the Vero.
So if it uses the ht app and its a vero radio i wonder if the radio will act as an i gate with phone pairing like the dual band mobile
I have seen that igate feature in the app. I'm going to test it out in a future video.
Apple iphone has built in noise cancellation for both microphone and speaker !! May be on iphone it will be a little clear 😅
I wasn't really expecting an answer when I did the phone PTT, I was a little surprised.
It’s a mystery radio 😂
It's pretty sweet. I need to play with it more.
Interesting. But my Kenwood D7 still works.
Good radio!
Looks interesting
It sure does. I've been waiting for this ever since the N7500 came out.
Nice large screen!
I'm pretty happy with it.
Can this do APRS messaging via RF? :)
Sure can
@@temporarilyoffline Awesome. Think you can do a video on that?
@@M9A1MAN Its a pretty cool system - once this is connected to the phone its a digipeater an igate and does the messaging. Pretty slick!
and yes.

Looks like a Motorola 2 pin plug?
I can't afford motorolas... not sure ;-D
@@temporarilyoffline 😂 know anyone with a Yaesu FT-4X or 65? That speaker mic might work since it's Moto plug as well.
@@temporarilyoffline maybe there's some cheapies at the Brainerd Ham fest this weekend.
@@CQCQPurgatory maybe!
Does anyone really ever use APRS? No.
It sure is chirpy... but "use" is questionable. I'd use it a lot more if they made the GPS info optional. I can beacon out, get picked up by a local tower and that can relay messages to me... all without telling the world where my every movement is. That restricts a lot of my use.
Being able to send a "ham radio text message" appeals to me though.
MFJ Going out of business!!
Sad day!

I'm sorry what the heck was this video about 🤨
It was about a new radio from Radioddity that can be controlled by your cell phone.
Ya random radio
The 2nd best kind!
Wait...wait....nope. Still not awesome.
Just keep watching, osmosis will kick in soon. You got this!
Does that app work with a FT3D, or do you know of a list of radios the HT app works with?
I believe this is currently the only "ham" HT that it works with. There is a GMRS HT and a Ham Mobile Unit that work with this app.
Awesome Stuff! KO4HPC 73 :)
