I am very surprised and impressed that instructor/professor Kelly could actually do the physical work for the time lapse video. A true inspiration for anyone facing what would appear to be a disability. I am a real fan . I too am a technician as well as an R.N. It is one thing to teach but, also perform the actual tasks that are taught.
I was always told that it's a sign of a good mechanic when you can fix something and have parts left over. Thanks for the entertainment. Great series of videos.
wacth you working on the 2017 prius make me feel like I didn't know anything about car even I did work on them more than 30 years you are an iron man professor I respect your knownlege sir
I agree. It's pretty impressive seeing Prof. John Kelly hard working in mechanics. He´s an example for all those people who suffer some kind of discapacity 💪 ❤️
Mans got talent! The brains and the muscle! Very nice work! I like that there's more than just theory in what you do. Some ppl are all talk, but they don't get their hands dirty, great example of what techs should strive to become.
I'm always currious in pulling things appart to see how they work, but a new Prius, that's really extreme. I'm also glad to see you also left with an "extra" part :) Thank you for sharing.
WOW... That is just remarkable. At first I thought, in the battery and MGCC video, that the electrically operated chair was for maneuvering around the work table. Now I understand !! And here am I, retired at the mandatory 58, from an airline job, sitting at home with acute osteoarthritis of the hips and crying over it :( At the computer the whole day, in the very same chair that I presume, caused it in the first place. Well, sacrificed it for the wonders of the internet, I suppose. Like watching your videos !! But I think it was worth all the pain to be online, just to watch videos like yours !! Wish I could give you my nerves... Yes... I am in tears seeing as to how much work you do. You have motivated me Professor. Thank you for being in this world. Much Love&Prayers...
A great video! Thanks to your videos I now know something about my car. The respect how it takes care of my journeys has increased tremendously. With my sincere thanks.
Impressive to take this apart they way you did, put it back together and have the car drive away from the bay. My hats off to you. Thanks for putting this video together. Well at least wasn't a press car that you guys had to return.. lol
It all went together and I was wondering if you were going to end up with something extra. That's an awfully lot of parts. One thing is it's clean and new so there's no rust to have to deal with. Keep up the good work.
Very true. I ruined the Trans in my 2002 Camary wish I could fix it my self. Not worth have it done at all. I have no idea what trans is in either. But I'm sure they teach a lot of them.
Much respect and admiration for you , i will watch and learn from all of your films. Thank you for your efforts, if I could subscribe more than once I would do so many times.
@@WeberAuto your video is inspiring me , thank you for your sharing knowledge god bless your knowledge , your dedication for teaching and much love you so much from indonesia , solo jawa tengah ..
Say dude something I would do very rarely do I come up with extra parts but it does happen thanks for the response on the questions I had in the video used a torque multiplier on the crush sleeve I believe that is a necessity to do one of them correctly I didn't have one or have access to one but I was close enough to ground everything worked out thank you so very much for your time
Thank you! It is a Toyota Techstream base made by Snap-On. You may be able to find one on ebay. It has an extra battery and a DLC cable interface as well as a charging dock.
I have a 2008 Prius and my dash display will no longer power up. I purchased a used display from eBay and it still did not power up I was told that it was my main hybrid battery. The car starts with no problems and my speedometer works fine all my dash components works fine. The main problem is the display unit that controls my radio,ac,heater etc.. My question is “ does my 12 volt car battery powers the display unit or is it the main hybrid battery that powers the display”? I forgot to mention that my radios doesn’t power up and the digital clock doesn’t power up ether.
The 12V battery powers everything in the car except the transmission and A/C compressor. Check fuses and connections. Have someone check fro trouble codes too. Best wishes
Wow, when I saw you taking it apart in other video's I would never have guessed it could run again. So I guess you took all the yellow labels off as you assembled?
I had confidence it would work again ;) Yes, I took off all of the internal labels. I left on the external ones for my students to see in the future. Thanks for the feedback!
I heard Scotty Kilmer saying to leave the transmission alone if the fluid has never been changed in years. He said, if you tried to change out the old dark fluid and add new fluid it can cause the transmission to slip. What do you think of his response to this? Its a been a long debatable topic for years as many people say not to and some say to change it.
I have also heard that, but I have never experienced that. It makes no sense to me. The fluid viscosity might be different if the old fluid was a different specification compared to the newer fluid. That might make the transmission shift faster or slower, but it will not cause a mechanical failure. I could be wrong, but I would need to see proof.
Eman 08 can't really compare scotty kilmer to a real automotive technician professor. I respect Scotty, dont get me wrong. But he's an old school mechanic and most of his knowledge comes from back in the day, it feels like. I would rather learn from John than Scotty, but to each his own.
@Thomas Fooij I respect your response but please refrain from comparing people as that's not the point of my post. It was simply asking a question for an opinion from another automotive professional. I'm also a Mobile Mechanic myself.
hi just quick info im doing a major project on hybrid system i have a toyota estima//previa noww the thng is i want to convert it to a hybrid using the newer hybrid engine do you think that iss possible
WeberAuto it would be neat to do some kind of semi-scientific testing! In my very light-use experience, it worked OK enough that I didn't complain. Maybe they've improved formulations?
I have a question. I have a toyota and the antifreezer comes out through the muffler and it is not through the head, because I already changed the packaging and the old packaging was ready and continues to pass antifreezer through the muffler?
Dear John. You are strong, smart and kind person. Such people like you make America great.
Thank you very much

Thank you very much!
That is a daunting task, especially if it was taken apart months before putting it back together again, well done
Thank you, it was a fun and educational project!
Amazing technical skills Professor Kelly, your are an inspirational instructor. Thank you for your videos.
You were very impressive in the work that you did. I have even more respect for you.
Thank you!
It was good to see it put back together albeit in a timelapse video. Your videos are very informative.
I'm always currious in pulling things appart to see how they work, but a new Prius, that's really extreme. I'm also glad to see you also left with an "extra" part :) Thank you for sharing.

Amazing, how you work despite your condition. Big bravo to this.
Love your videos. 😊😊

I am a lifelong, die hard car guy. But anyone who takes apart a brand new working car has it much worse than me. Thanks for sharing professor.
lol, very true! Thanks for your feedback.

Thank you! I did have one left over part. We will install it next year when we take it apart again.
In a word....OUTSTANDING !!

awesome job Professor Kelly! Man I would love to be in your classes. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much!
The Disgruntled Mechanic yeah I would love to learn this stuff too. But I’m too old even be working on cars anymore.
I am old too but that is why I am want to know more about the diagnostics. Less heavy work with just diagnosing!

Quite a jigsaw puzzle!
Yes, but a fun puzzle
Outstanding Professor! What is the bumper/cradle assembly you have on your Panasonic ToughBook please?
Thank you! It is a Toyota Techstream base made by Snap-On. You may be able to find one on ebay. It has an extra battery and a DLC cable interface as well as a charging dock.
all good, thank you ...
Thank you!
would you use a small portion of high quality additive like archoil to the fluid?

only 1 spare part? not bad! i would have at least a handful of misc nuts and bolts! lol
lol. It was a little embarrassing to have a left over part!
Would have taken me a minimum of 8 months to have done all that :)
lol, it was an 8-month long project from the time I started it ;)
🔧👌🏼👍🏼
Thank you!
😍😍
Thank you!
Did you ever put the part back? Lol
13 hours r and r including trans overhaul ?
No, that was just reassemble and installation. I am a slower than your average technician.
that is not that slow no leaks no codes that is what counts
True, I avoided both of those this time
And the hire company will never know :)
lol We bought this car
C'mon, no low VOC brake cleaner?
In my experience, low VOC Brake clean is water. it does not clean well and is a total waste of money. It could just be the brand we were using.
WeberAuto it would be neat to do some kind of semi-scientific testing! In my very light-use experience, it worked OK enough that I didn't complain. Maybe they've improved formulations?
Hello how are you ?
I have a question. I have a toyota and the antifreezer comes out through the muffler and it is not through the head, because I already changed the packaging and the old packaging was ready and continues to pass antifreezer through the muffler?
I love you big espirit as mecanic

Yep, Cars are expensive to operate and repair.
Lol. 4 minutes😂
