I still keep coming here and listen to this wonderful version of this great tune. And it just keep on hitting me right between the eyes,- Daniel..... if you ever need a new band member, just call me.......
This tune should be played in schools and kindergardens every morning to let kids know what music is all about......... Wow. This is just a killer song in a great version.
Such beautiful harmonies and Daniel's masterful atmospheric instrumentation. Brought back fond memories of seeing him play at a Northhampton, Massachusetts club some years ago. The quality of this Q Studio clip was stunning ! Thanks for sharing....Peter R.
agreed, fucking gorgeous guitar, which he plays wonderfully. and that knowing smile at 0:21? conveys the entire emotion of a performance like this in a split second
Got a letter from a messenger I read it when it came It said that you were wounded, You were bound and chained You had loved and you were handled You were poisoned, you were pained Oh no, oh no You were naked, you were shamed You could almost touch heaven Right there in front of you Liberty just slipped away on us Now there's so much work to do Oh the door that closes tightly Is the door that can swing wide Oh no, oh no Not expecting to collide For a minute I let my guard down Not afraid to be found out Completely forgotten What our fears were all about Oh no, oh no There's no need to be without There's a chance and I will take it This desire I can't kill Take my heart, please don't break it I will crawl to your foothill I'm frightened but I'm coming, Please baby, please lay still Oh no, oh no Not coming for the kill Oh no, oh no Not coming for the kill Oh no, oh no Not coming for the kill
+don white did u know jimi hit the charts with 3 covers...hey joe, wild thang , all along the watch tower ... no shame but hommage to great music that last beyond a life time. think beethoven n mozart...still played today yet long ago in the grave
@stogma I respect the effort by Tea Party, but as a long-time Lanois fan, I prefer the vulnerable rawness of his version more. To each his own. I'm thrilled that other bands are performing his songs, and making them their own.
Blackhatter LOL...I am sure that someone else besides myself will hear it too...I was just sharing my experience. By the way, it was only in this song that I thought Lanois sounded like Clapton...so maybe the resemblance has more to do with the style of song than his voice.
BjGard: "Tea Party was a much superior version but i really respect the original as well... " I love The Tea Party version, but this one is growing on me, to a point where I am not sure which version is "better". I suppose the point of this is that Daniel Lanois is a great producer because he is, in fact, a talented musician. I think this is one of the reasons why The Tea Party was such a successful band in Canada.
@nmg18ismuzik I saw Black Dub last night at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. They were superb (even without the bass player-extraordinaire, Daryl Johnson -- I couldn't catch the replacement bassist's full name...Tio somebody, from Tijuana...but he was more than adequate). And, as a lifelong drummer, I am continually amazed at the drumming of Brian Blade. His signature playing is immediately identifiable. Bottom line...How nice to witness great musicians at the top of their game.
@yoyomasta47 Actually Daniel Lanois wrote this song and released it in 1993, the Tea Party remade it, this is just a more recent version by Daniel Lanois.
I think that Jeff Martin has a much richer voice than Daniel Lanois. I'm not saying this version is bad, rather both version ought to be judged on their own merit .
Tea Party was a much superior version but i really respect the original as well... Rarely does a classic get covered properly.. With such piles of ass disgraces like AFRICA and really anything by a rapper/ hip hopper
Wow,-what a tune, what a band and what a performance.... this is just wunderfull to watch.....
Gorgeous harmonies.
Gorgeous guitar solo.
Gorgeous P90 tone.
I LOVE that album, the Beauty of Wynona! Glad I have it.

Is there anyone cooler than Daniel Lanois? I think not!
Yes
Just heard this song on CBC radio and loved it! Sweet.
Cette chanson démontre une tendresse douce entre les amoureux. La façon Daniel joue de la guitare électrique est tellement originale.
schooling angels with that harmony
Leaves me breathless!
Great great Daniel Lanois !
This tune should be played in schools and kindergardens every morning to let kids know what music is all about......... Wow. This is just a killer song in a great version.

I found this video by accident, and wow. I'm super glad I did :)
Heard it on radio. Wondered what it was...so good
Got a letter from a messenger
I read it when it came
It said that you were wounded,
You were bound and chained
You had loved and you were handled
You were poisoned, you were pained
Oh no, oh no
You were naked, you were shamed
You could almost touch heaven
Right there in front of you
Liberty just slipped away on us
Now there's so much work to do
Oh the door that closes tightly
Is the door that can swing wide
Oh no, oh no
Not expecting to collide
For a minute I let my guard down
Not afraid to be found out
Completely forgotten
What our fears were all about
Oh no, oh no
There's no need to be without
There's a chance and I will take it
This desire I can't kill
Take my heart, please don't break it
I will crawl to your foothill
I'm frightened but I'm coming,
Please baby, please lay still
Oh no, oh no
Not coming for the kill
Oh no, oh no
Not coming for the kill
Oh no, oh no
Not coming for the kill
God I love this.
Rock on, Daniel!
It really is isns't it. Just so passionate.
What a tune...
Solo una palabra: excelente!
Loved it
Well, this isn't a version. This is an original. I prefer this one.
Lanois produced "Joshua Tree" for U2 and many other epic albums.
Beautiful...
those two voices matches very well!
Real Music right here.
this shit is weak
***** ok
+don white did u know jimi hit the charts with 3 covers...hey joe, wild thang , all along the watch tower ... no shame but hommage to great music that last beyond a life time. think beethoven n mozart...still played today yet long ago in the grave
WOW! I have been a fan of The Tea Party, since their early years, and I didn't know, until now, that this was a cover song!
Thank You Jian, this was a classic show! Via Con Dios bud...
@stogma I respect the effort by Tea Party, but as a long-time Lanois fan, I prefer the vulnerable rawness of his version more. To each his own. I'm thrilled that other bands are performing his songs, and making them their own.
gorgeous
Awesome!!
If I closed my eyes and someone asked me who was singing...I would say Eric Clapton. Anyone else hear this? Love this performance.
Nope, only you.
Blackhatter
LOL...I am sure that someone else besides myself will hear it too...I was just sharing my experience. By the way, it was only in this song that I thought Lanois sounded like Clapton...so maybe the resemblance has more to do with the style of song than his voice.
*****
Thanks - relieved that my hearing isn't going...lol.
*****
As did I ...and I am also a fan of both of these amazing musicians.
love it....
Superb!

JIM WILSON is brilliant!
Is this song about a specific event? Its so beautiful.
,,MASTER!!!!...Saludos!!
and that's the messenger's message... open the bar next time...
lol, best musician to come out of my nick of the woods (Ottawa-Gatineau)
very nice
@nmg18ismuzik I saw Black Dub last night at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. all right !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@yoyomasta47 Actually Daniel Lanois wrote this song and released it in 1993, the Tea Party remade it, this is just a more recent version by Daniel Lanois.
Quoi demander de mieux!!
very nice ! です.
Wrong. . . the title is: For the Beauty of Wynona
class act
Daniel wrote this song and the Tea Party covered it from him
It's always fucked up how much U2 I hear in this. Either Lanois influences U2 or the other way around. Either way, it's fucking great!
Yes it is.I love "Orange Kay"...It whispers here and sends you to hell in "Orange Kay".
How bout an appearance on Whisker Wars?
Checkout the version of this song by Trihouse.
i never knew Castro could play so well... lol
I think that Jeff Martin has a much richer voice than Daniel Lanois. I'm not saying this version is bad, rather both version ought to be judged on their own merit .
Ahhh with Mother Superior or Rollins band Mark 2.
uplilting.
👍
@revton3197 Lanois produced U2 to what they are. I prefer Lanois
I'm fully aware of this. What I'm saying is that I suspect Lanois is in on much of the writting process.
Don't understand it. This original is so much better than The Tea Party's version - it's got way more soul.
Very reminiscent of "The Ground beneath Her Feet", truth be told.
Well, the other way around naturally...
I sing your song "The Messenger" in Minà, the togolese language. Do you want to do a duet with me
Linkin Park - The Messenger
Hi
How nice it would be to have this kind of messenger. The only thing better would be if he arrived with chocolate.
Check out Chris Finch's excellent bio piece on Daniel at lifeasahuman
Reads lak quite a resssamaaay areckin sur.
You're an idiot. This song was written by Daniel Lanois and first appeared on his 1993 record The Beauty of Winona.
Who are the 14 a$*holes who don't like this??
This isn't the original. The Original was by The Tea Party, But a good cover.
Tea Party was a much superior version but i really respect the original as well... Rarely does a classic get covered properly.. With such piles of ass disgraces like AFRICA and really anything by a rapper/ hip hopper
