Soooo addictive... I've been collecting mostly small gaming statues for the past 5 years and until I started collecting 1/4 scale last year.. I couldn't stop.. Like almost everyday I look at statue photos and stuff on the Internet.. Rabbit hole has been dug and its deeeeeeep
The Overwatch D.Va statue is so far the most expensive statue that I own. I thought that was expensive enough and there is no way I'll ever be spending thousands on these crazy expensive statues. Recently I discovered an expensive Motoko statue that was sold out almost everywhere. After hours of searching I found a place that still had it in stock and was selling it for its original price, so I pre-ordered it... for 1100 euro... And now I'm considering pre-ordering the Prime 1 Gally statue. And I'm salty that I missed out on the Prime 1 2B statue. My mindset basically just did a complete 180 in how I see these expensive statues, completely out of the blue. Man these things are dangerous. One moment you're just casually browsing the web, then suddenly you see a statue or figurine that you really want and before you know it your money goes yeeeeeet.
How's the hobby going. I bought that NieR:Automata 1/4 diorama from prime 1 studios around a year ago and have had it for a while and it's an amazing work of art. I also have the creation studios A2. (The more recent one) And I also have pre ordered the prime 1 studios 1/3 2B deluxe. Statue collecting is expensive but I'm only a fan of NieR:Automata and the series in general so at least my spending is locked to 1 franchise.
Well thought through video. Pretty much covers the most invasive aspect, but the eternal battle for most collectors with their significant other. Also consider most chooses statues over other things, which could be more important, as all addictions can be about escapism.
I’ve had over 2000 transactions on eBay as both a seller and a buyer (two accounts). I’m not a Power Seller, just a personal collector. Have bought and sold tons of statues myself (Bowen statues and Horizon Kit models were the rave then). Been at it since 2001. You just to be real good as to whom to buy from...and if I get a buyer with bad feedback, I cancel the transaction and place him on my Block Bidders/Buyers List. I only had a couple of negative transactions and one really nasty one in 19 years of doing business there. I’ll take those odds any day.
My place used to belong to me but now, it belongs to my Collection!🤯 This video is SO full of Truth! EVERY WORD! But seriously I love it! When people come to visit, I'm "The Cool Guy!" Keep up the Great Work on your videos Mr. X, we appreciate you! 👍🏼💣💯😎
“One of Us….” 😂. I’m glad I have retrained myself because of space. I have stuck to one character presentation for the most part and love my old pieces as new ones come out. I can honestly say I have broken one piece by moving it but not noticeable. And one other because of my nephews 🤦♂️, and ever since they have been cautious. Cool video
My favorite top 10 list thus far, you hit all of them! We can never stop, the pieces get bigger and better, space is literally only issue but we find a way no matter what!
Your last point summed me up today perfectly. I'm only new to collecting and told myself I wouldn't spend more than $1000 on a statue regardless of what it was. Today I purchased the 1/3 doom slayer by prime1. My rule has been broken and now I fear of this slippery slop. Also do not regret purchasing it by any means
Statue collecting works best when you exercise discernment! Also, space isn't an issue if you don't buy those massive statues, quite frankly they're ridiculous. Remember, collectibles don't have to be high end to be good, there's a load of great pieces at reasonable prices that are just as good, if not better than those mega bucks statues.
You could do an educational top 10 list on best/worst/most common materials statues are made of. Sideshow lists a whole bunch of materials I’ve never even heard of (ABS, POM, Vinyl, PC, other plastics like PVC). Then you have polystone, cold cast porcelain, polyresin, fiberglass, metals like bronze or steel, mixed media of different fabrics, clay, and even freaking rubber. It would be nice to know the pros and cons of these materials, and which ones are more durable with the most longevity, since last thing you want is your statue crumbling or cracking or melting after so many years, $3000 later. Plenty of information on the internet. But it would be interesting to hear how, say, a rubber statue compares to a polystone one, or if resin lasts longer than porcelain, or if a cotton cape wears out faster than a velvet one, or if dust collects more on certain materials, or even if paint applications fade or thin faster or look better on certain materials.
I don’t have problems with multiple lines as I only collect Alien and Predator. All that other stuff, superheroes, animé, etc, don’t really interest me. Mind you, I appreciate watching other people’s different stuff. Having said that, even in my limited line of interest, my Alien/Predator collection is non-stop. I keep wanting more. But aside from that, chipped, partially broken statues, especially from the secondary market, does not bother me as long as the seller is honest and describes all the imperfections. My main pet peeve is lack of free space for both statues and the damn boxes...especially those damn boxes. My basement is full of boxes...can hardly walk through there. But unfortunately, you have to keep them in case you want to sell them later...as that styrofoam is a must if you want to avoid breakage during shipping. And I have a rather small man-cave. Imagine if I had Mr X’s numbers, I’d go insane.
Love the channel Mr .X. Another great video, always appreciate your honesty and reveiws period. Ive only been collecting for a year but am totally addicted. I am currently going through #8. New member in your amazing YT Channel 🤩 I want to take the step to collect statues, but I am very concerned about their maintenance and especially the appearance of the paint. Is it complicated ? Have you ever experienced paint fading on your figures due to heat? Humidity? This really worries me
Once you pop, you can’t stop. The only thing going for me is that I live in a small place - which is so full that I have no choice but to slow the f@ck down when it comes to buying statues. Though it brings out my creative side to figure out where to squeeze another statue or five 🤓
I buy mostly comics, now getting into higher grade slabs. Also addictive. I remember when I was buying my 1st statue (all 1/6 th scale or less) the store owner actually warned me against it. I get it now. Between you and Gem I'm feeling pulled toward the high end stuff. Just don't have the income to afford comics, my home and high end statues...well maybe if I sold a kidney...hmm?

I think I mentioned this on a previous video recently, besides the money, space is an issue for me. Display space. I currently have that problem with just some 7" NECA & Diamond Selects (movie figures like John Wick and Ash Williams), Gundam, etc.
Well, the main problem is keeping focus and choosing a theme for your collection. If you don’t do that, the rabbit hole will keep on growing until is completely out of control. Also I have to give bonus points for the K’s Choice reference!
Number one is so true, the rule I usually follow is if I see a piece and it doesn’t jump out to me I won’t buy enough though I still think is a good piece. I like to collect pieces that are unique and rare to me.
I totally agree. I wonder why its so addictive. I go through cycles of thinking I dont need statues. Then I'm scrolling through new releases and I've 3 new PO's. The thought of getting rid of my collection is also like cutting off a limb. Why is this? Mental.
i think Mr X can help statue buyers and sellers to build a platform website and app for them to sell easily without the fear of being scammed as all their personal details are in the account which creates a trustworthy enviroment...it can also be a platform for local photographers to take photos of their statues and post it as listing and Mr X could get a cut out of every sale rather than buying from evil bay n interacting with scammers! its too risky !
I know this is old I'm trying to catch up on your vids but have you ordered a piece on ebay from China thats close to or better than original custom? Have the venomized Wolverine coming hoping for the best
Another reason to avoid statue collecting is all the dusting you have to do to keep your collection nice. Also you may have to buy more furniture (display cases or shelving) to put your collection in. Which means more money spent. 💸
Mr X ( and comment section) just asking for some advice, I want to get a turn table with decent weight capacity and wondering what you ( and everyone else) uses. Thank you in advance
Search Amazon. Lots of options. A non-motorized 18" is about $20 that can hold 50 lbs. Then you can get more fancy with bigger, automated, more weight capactiy, etc.
I just started collecting June 23rd and my gf tells me I have an addiction problem..... that's when I tell her, "no honey, I gave up drinking, remember?" Then she smiles in approval and I remove my 65 inch tv to add space for more statues...... next up... the king size bed.... addiction, my ass.
You are so right with top one. I have one statue in order and i seen an other and now i'm thinking about it 😱 i'm thinking about it before the first have arrived... shit! I'm infected. Infected with predator stuff 😱🤣
Fortunately or unfortunately my # restraint is my wallet and space! So for know I just enjoy looking at all of the statues here and online. Maybe one day I will get an Xtreme statue for now I'll settle for the few small ones I own. And no thats not what she said!😁
So addicting! Then you go into a depressive state when a statue comes in and then you're stuck waiting on the other ones to be shipped or completed, but you get excited to get the piece in. Its a vicious cycle
You nailed it. #1- it's an addictive virus. My hubs started and somehow he gave it to me. Our biggest issue is the space and new lines continually coming out.
It really is time consuming stalking ebay all the time stressing when you dont have the money to get a deal that pops up. The addiction is real the money you spend is crazy. It's for real a blessing and a curse to collect. I just collect mainly horror and my favorite characters from marvel and Sf I buy a lot of kits to save money and have it look how I want. Wouldn't reccomend starting it's a long road lol
Idk why but I haven't been able to find any videos on the injustice 2 black manta prime 1 statue does anyone know anything about it, it looks really nice just want to know more. This video makes me want to buy statues more lol
Why, yes! It's a magnificent statue. Here's a video from the wonderful Sisko: ua-cam.com/video/Z0go15gC07U/v-deo.html As far as it being reviewed by the general public, I think it's in the process of being shipped. Some people will be getting it as soon as today.
Hi Mr X . Can you give me some advise on what display case to get for the upcoming predator big game jungle hunter statue? It’s 27” tall and want it to be lit. I’d like it to be displayed at eye height so could be placed on a unit or perhaps there’s a large display case that’s got two levels to it? Was thinking of displaying the statue at eye level and below it some predator memorabilia like the steelbooks, comic etc. Any advice would be great !!! 👍🏼
Statues are like drugs....you start small (1:10, 1:8, 1:6).....and you gradually move up to bigger things (1:4, 1:3, 1:2, life-size). Before you know it you're selling the cat and half the furniture to buy your next piece.
Well that's it you've talked me into it. I'll start my collection today.
Lol

Absolutely #1 is true. While back I realized I had a bunch of orders on payment plans. And I'm wondering "Where's all my money going?"
I just started collecting June 23rd and my gf tells me I have an addiction problem..... that's when I tell her, "no honey, I gave up drinking, remember?" Then she smiles in approval and I remove my 65 inch tv to add space for more statues...... next up... the king size bed.... addiction, my ass.
lol
You are so right with top one. I have one statue in order and i seen an other and now i'm thinking about it 😱 i'm thinking about it before the first have arrived... shit! I'm infected. Infected with predator stuff 😱🤣
great advice.., it is extremely addicting...
Better stay to a theme of your choice and have them continue on the next upgrade version of them..
And due to the addiction, spending money you don't have... IE : being broke but having plenty of amazing statues
@@thirtyacres7504 oh lol didn't know it was just released
@@maxaltieri1576 It's not your fault. This statue has been teased since 2018. Lol.
Patience should be up there, if you're not a patient person you will be suffering on those pieces that take years to arrive lol
Yes i have a problem with the number 2 reason. I tend to trade up into better statues so i agree but this is why i dont have a crap load of em.
Moducase makes a couple tall ones like that.
Thanks for the reply man I love your content and been subscribing for quite a while. Appreciate the videos
Statues are too expensive
Another good top 10. 👍👍
I just started collecting and I'm addicted and I also have a $#itload of ebay alerts.
I guess, you will never stop buying more statues. Great concept for a video.
Can’t resist a good old fashioned Mr. X countdown.
Good video.
Extremely addicting.. went from 1/6 scale Hot Toys to statue collecting
Same here, I though I didn't have enough room for my Hot Toys boxes, now Statue Boxes?!?🤯🤪🥴😵
I love #10 “you will be a nerd”
Great information
Nailed it
Statues are like drugs....you start small (1:10, 1:8, 1:6).....and you gradually move up to bigger things (1:4, 1:3, 1:2, life-size).
Before you know it you're selling the cat and half the furniture to buy your next piece.
So so true
LMAO!!! well....I have 2 cats and a dog for sale if you're interested...
1 broke during shipping 1 fell from shelf bsi is love
Price and size are the biggest detractors for me. I collect Minimates 🤣
