    In my travels out and about I'd wager that about way over 50% of the 1/2 ton pickups I see towing are WAY over their rated capacity. They seem to do OK, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do. At least in Michigan it doesn't seem that police do much to enforce this with non-commercial vehicles.

    Very well done , more people need to understand and apply this thinking to their towing requirements. Additional passengers and weight in the bed also affects the whole set up. As you stated one person in the truck . Families on vacation are probably over limits all the time. I tow with a 2021 Silverado Trailboss and weight everything to safety tow my travel trailer.

    @Chad Ivan Great video! I bet your excited for the 2022 Silverado which offers the max trailering package with the 3.0 Duramax. I believe it will have 13,300 lbs of towing capacity.

      I am super excited about that package and I can't wait to get more details on what they have changed, in particular axle weight rating and gross vehicle weight rating. Those are the areas that I struggle to stay legal on.... It sucks that we are not able to get any inventory at dealerships but as soon as I can get my hands on one I'll do a view on what has been updated....

      @@CJIEngineering I ordered my 2022 1/2 ton Sierra just after Christmas with the 3.0 Duramax. Was exited about the max tow package but then learned you cannot get it with the X31 off road package on the GMC. I stuck with the X31 as I really wanted everything that came with that and the 9.000lb tow rating still more than enough for my needs anyhow.

      So you are getting the new interior/body style or the LTD version? I was shocked that you couldn't get the 2-speed transfer case with the max tow package, you can't get it with z71, just crazy :(

    Not sure if you will see this but i am curious what you think of the sumo bump stops. I have a 2024 rst redline longbed with the LZ0 and the max tow package and i regularly tow 13k lbs flawlessly but the squat is terrible and im trying to avoid air bags and was considering the sumo setup. Thanks im advance, hope you're doing well

    • @CJIEngineering

      I really didn't like the Sumo springs, they were better than the Timbren spring but to be honest, you should just put the air springs on. I used the Firestone units and you get the best of both worlds, smooth riding unloaded and 5 psi and level towing when you are at max weight. I had put in a couple of extra valves so I could isolate the left from the right, I figured it would help with a little more stability. The 2023 that I drive now is just factory. I want a gooseneck hitch and some of these things are not compatible and I don't have a gooseneck trailer yet so factory is good enough. Thanks for the question and for watching.

      @CJIEngineering I really appreciate the reply, I've seen a lot of people saying they use the sumos but nobody really shows results or measures for squat so I was curious what you thought. I absolutely love this truck and it's worth putting bags in, I'll isolate the left and right as well and rather than valves in the bumper I'm going with a tank and pump. It's not a ton more work but it's way more convenient. Have a great day

    How has the truck and motor in general been for reliability? I am looking at the AT4 with 3.0l Duramax. I just am on the fence due to prior bad luck with GM products. But I really love what the engine and truck offers for my needs.

      So far so good. No issues with the exception of the couple of recalls, seatbelts and engine calibration adjustments. I have had lots of people show concern about the temperature fluctuations but no issues there and one person has reported a high pressure fuel pump failure but mine has been working perfectly. I do believe it is the best 1/2 powertrain available in the market today, great mpg and is a towing beast.

      @@jonnyg44 you name it. Electrical issues, failed transmissions, rear main seals leaking. This is all on new vehicles with less than 20k miles.

    How about moving the weight back a bit on the trailer to reduce tongue wt.
    How’s the truck treating you any issues.
    How many miles on it so far ?
    Thanks for the video

    • @CJIEngineering

      I could have for sure move the load back a little bit but I'm not sure if I could have got the tongue weight down to below 1,000 lbs to not require the WD hitch. The trailer axles are pretty far back on that trailer making it super stable running down the road but doesn't do me any favors with an evenly distributed load like this. No issues so far, I have had to change the fuel filter once and had a couple of the service bulletins done to the truck but other than that it's been just normal maintenance and fuel. Really happy with it. I'm getting really close to 24,000 miles on the truck. Thank for the comment and watching. I really appreciate it.

    Did you have to adjust the weight distribution hitch after you installed the Sumo Springs? Thinking about replacing mine but not sure if I add them before or after the wdh setup.

    • @CJIEngineering
      @CJIEngineering  3 роки тому

      I'm actually still trying to figure out what should be done when the Sumo Springs are installed. For sure the rear does not drop as much but I haven't figured out if the front raises the same amount or if it is less and how that affects the load on each of the axles. I'm working on a series of test to show what affect the weight distribution bars have, I have multiple weight ratings plus the overload units. Probably won't have it figured out till some time in April when the weather clears up and I can run the test matrix all in one day. Sorry I can't help more at this time...

      Still working on that one. I was able to get all of the questions consolidated during the few days I have off around Christmas and will be getting them over to GM this week to schedule the interview. Thanks for your patience. I really hoped to get it out earlier but I also want to make sure it's planned out and gives useful information for everyone follow my channel...

    Do people have a lot of dot cops in their area?

    • @CJIEngineering
      @CJIEngineering  3 роки тому

      Michigan State Police Commercial Cops are always monitoring the freeways around my area. I can say they have never pulled me over but I want to try and help people understand what is allowed with different size trucks. I did similar towing with my Colorado Duramax and it was legal also. There are several UA-cam contributors that say you should use a 3/4 ton truck for this type of load or even for towing my travel trailer. I'm looking to help people understand what you CAN do and not worry about a ticket or worse a lawsuit if you do get in an accident towing. Sorry for the long answer... Thanks for the question and hopefully others will chime in also. I'm curious also.

      @@CJIEngineering I'm in Baltimore, and as long as you stay away from the bridge and tunnel they dont mess with you. Where I live I dont have to go very far to get anything fortunely. And not to pick on police but some police forces focus more on traffic stuff than others due to its profitability.
