Why are so many riding some of the best roads? The Blue Ridge Parkway is one

- It’s time to ride the best roads and get on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Cherokee, NC and head north. This ride will go down as one of those very special routes as we get to experience the magic of motorcycle riding on what’s called “America's Favorite Drive”. We immediately discovered that it’s possible to slow down, leave our frenzied lives behind, be outside, take a deep breath and open our hearts to our surroundings.

Did you two stop in the wheels through time in Cherokee? It is an amazing experience
Not this time. We have been there before and made a video of it. It’s an awesome place for sure
And it's in Maggie Valley, not Cherokee.
But still very cool place
@@xtphreak you are correct. Cherokee is about 10 minutes ride away
Try some Darn Tough socks. They are made from merino wool, naturally anti bacterial making them odor resistant. Much healthier for your feet too. The backpacking community loves them so I tried a pair. I was skeptical but now that is all I wear. No more stinky feet, motorcycle or work boots.
I agree - once I tried them never looked back. My son, a green beret for 20 years and served 28 yrs calls them smart socks and also recommends them.
bass pro used to sell some " forever socks, they were the warmest fluffy sock but they weren't wool but super warm and no stinky feet .i have 4 pairs of them and if i have shoes on, which isnt alot i have them on and ive had them for years.
Darn Tough socks are the BEST! And, if you do wear then out, they can be returned, even without a receipt, and they will be replaced without cost to you as they're guaranteed for life.
I wear them every day.they are 👍
I second this. I wear them every day, even when I'm not adventuring. Plus they wash well in a hotel sink.
A bit pricey, but they have a lifetime guarantee and last for a looooong time
Glad you are riding the Blue Ridge. I have lived in NC for all my life and started riding it in the 60's. There is too much to see in one trip on the parkway. if you get a chance, stop at Doughton Park and eat at The Bluff. In 1949, The Bluffs became the first dining establishment to open on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Doughton Park does have a campgrounds also.
The blueridge parkway is absolutely beautiful
My neck of the woods!! Northeastern Tennessee has the best (or pert near the very best) riding in the entire country!! I've been through 49 states, and I have yet to find riding like here in northeastern Tennessee. Moved here two years ago, and the riding opportunities are endless!! Ride safe. Ride well. Ride often!! Thanks for sharing!!
Right on!
Never ceases to amaze me what y’all UA-camrs do to film.
Yes! The music is awesome. I agree with Road Glider. The Blue Ridge is a very nice ride. Glad you all got to experience it and share it with us!
Rain or shine is a pretty bold statement on the BRP. I've ridden my whole life but the BRP is where I fell in love with riding. Love the videos
nice sharing my friend..watching from malaysia
Over the past 40 years, my wife and I have ridden every mile of the Blue Ridge with some of it several times Such a great place to relax while riding. One year ago we moved on to a HD Try Glide Ultra. At age 70 it is so easy to ride and not having to worry about falling as much. It also can carry a huge amount of travel gear and the 114 M8 will haul the mail. Enjoy the parkway, we sure have. Actually we were there 3 weekends ago from Irmo South Carolina up US-321 straight shot to Boone/Blowing Rock and Grandfathers mountain.
I live 1 hour from the Parkway and my wife and I ride it often. Enjoy your time and take time to look at other roads in the area.
Awesome video
nice video - enjoyed watching - last time I was in America was years ago - I was travelling down the coast road to California - this is really beautiful - have a great day
You guy's have fun,I enjoy your Vedios.
Loved the video! Glad you enjoyed your time on the Blue Ridge Pkwy. We have always enjoyed our time on that road over the years.
I drove the complete Blue Ridge Parkway last year, specifically for the reason you stated -- to slow down, and yes, it is a hiker's paradise. Thanks for taking me along with you on this trip.
That old tree is amazing! Great video stay safe and thank you for sharing.
The BRP is my favorite ride by far. Ridden end to end 3 times and just sections many more times. Enjoy your ride and stay safe.
I’ve been playing catch up for the past two months since I happened upon your channel. Chris and Rich, thank you for what you do! I have evolved as you have in types of equipment and camp set ups without the pains of learning as I go! You both have inspired me to start weekend travel pulling my 1250 GS with Jeep and camping and exploring on the motorcycle . Thanks Again !
Awesome Steve you are welcome. So glad we could help. 👍Love it.
Driven the parkway on day trips from Northern Virginia in my 1931 Model A Ford Coupe. The best ever scenic drive in a 90 year old automobile.
The Parkway looks like it’s a great ride. I’m going to have to add it to the bucket list when I get out east. Be safe, ride safe. 👊
Thanks for taking us along on your adventure !
love the new music guys! one of the prettiest roads ive ridden was from BRPKWY down to Pisgah Forest in the fall...omg!
I ride that all the time I live near waynesboro. Great ride!
By the way I hate tunnels!
Great video and your a great husband and wife team..travel safe
My wife and I rode a lot of the parkway in the early 2000s when our kids were in college in Ashville, lots of great memories.
I love the BRP and the 45 MPH speed limit is perfect (assuming people actually drive at that speed.... many drive cloer to 30 MPH which can be very annoying...) Skyline Drive / Shenandoah National Park is also a nice way to continue the drive/ride on the north end but it has a 35 MPH speed limit and they charge admission for the 100 mile road.
One recent downer for the BRP is the campgrounds - some of them have been neglected and need some series work. Crabtree Falls Campground (where you are staying) is one of them. I like Mount Pisgah due to the higher elevation. Julian Price is another one that needs some TLC - at least as of last year.
It was very nice to meet both of you during my trip to the Kickstand Lodge. A place that is very dear to my heart. I've camped there every year since 2006. Mo and Bobby are like family to me. Kind of cool seeing my truck and trailer in the background of your video. Wishing you both safe travels and lots of adventures in the future. Jay
Awesome Jay. It was great meeting you also. Cheers.
I KNOW MO! Mo and Bobby are good people. Great place to stay.
I was going to suggest that you folks put more and more stuff on those bikes. I mean it looks like you might have left something at home and, as we all know, the less stuff you bring along, the less fun you have. LOL.
Ok, I'm kidding. This is a great video. I love your style.
Nice video!!! And yes I'm jealous!!!!
You folks put out some really nice vids of your adventures. I’m sure it helps traveling on such beautiful roads. That looks like such a nice practical tent. A screened sit in area. I’m sure you wish it packed up smaller but sacrifices must be made and being on the road; on a long haul I’m sure you are grateful for its pluses. Getting to put pants on standing up. :)
I’ve been out on a ride and stopped to take a break and watch y’all on my phone haha almost like we are riding together well not really but kinda
That’s awesomeness.
That’s awesomeness.
Did this ride in April. If you’re planning on camping, check the dates the campgrounds open, most were closed until May.
BRP is so beautiful. Love it every time I ride any part of it. New Tent? Look like a good one. Be safe.
One thing I found heading east on the BRP from Maggie Valley is it can be tough during sun rise hours because at some turns I encountered the sun right in my eyes. If I’m to do it again, I’ll head east after 9:00 a.m. Maggie Vally is the perfect place to have a motorcycle rally. They have it all! Hotels, a great field in town to host a rally, Wheels through time, restaurants, and some of the best motorcycling roads east of the Mississippi.
Must stay at Willsville Motorcycle Campground in Meadows of Dan Virginia.
Always enjoy watching your videos..my wife and I getting ready to head out for a road trip...not camping though. But still excited to get on the road..heading above Pittsburgh to motoamerica races...joyful
Thanks for the ride along and video i am putting the blue ridge on my bucket list
When it cools down a bit and you’re out this way, check out Coronado Trail; over 400 curves, plenty of turnouts for slow Harley riders 😉
I ride it 4 times a year; it’s an all day ride for me from Cochise county
I really enjoy your videos! Id be interested in seeing a vid on the things you carry on your bikes. I am a solo rider , so I can't carry as much.
This is one of my bucket list rides. Drove a good bit of it in a car years ago and loved it. I remember Crabtree Falls being a nice hike and gorgeous views. Stepped out the door of our motel room in Blowing Rock and we were looking down at the clouds. Couldn’t even see the walk in front of the room let alone the car. LOL Ride safe and have fun. 👍🏻😎
If your ever back in the Cherokee area stop in Maggie Valley and stop in at Wheels through Time... A must stop.
You probably already know, but a section around Roanoke is closed. Has been for two years now. I’ve been riding that from end to end every year since 2004. A good place to reset.
You should visit our Blue Ridge Mtns. in the fall when the leaves have changed colors. Nothing more beautiful in all the US. Enjoy our mountains.
My favorite part of the BRP is between the highest point on the motor road and Mt Pisgah…. I’ve not camped at the Pisgah Campground, but I’ve been through it, very nice!!!
LOL, I have ridden to/driven to the BRP on 4 occasions. The first time, late June , Virginia, in a camper. Loved it so much made plans to return. The next time, mid April, Norh Carolina..............Oh Noooo, Road closed. Snow in the mountains. Third trip, July, NC, Oh Nooooo, road resurfacing with tar and gravel. Motorcycles prohibited. Fourth trip, June, NC ................AGAIN, road resurfacing, motorcycles not allowed. I give up.
You guys should visit wheels through time in Maggie Valley
Thanks, I rode part of it near Cherokee, will do the hole stretch at some point!
Enjoy…✌🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Looking forward to seeing you ride the rest of the parkway . Last time we rode it was 1992 !
After waynsboro it turns into skyline drive which ends in front royal Va
My apologies for a negative comment. The visuals were fantastic. The music w/vocals on the other hand…
Glad to see you in my part of the country. I can tell you really enjoyed the Parkway... FYI lots of awesome riding in SW Virginia as well. IE ..Back of the Dragon
SW VA is phenom for motorcycle riding.
How you like having the Harley compared to the adventure bike I was thinking of an adventure bike like the bmw but was scared I like my wing and Harley but you had both and you guys do my type of riding most road but some off road is great to thanks for the videos
I love my HD the GS is a great bike but for me I like the way my arms are positioned.
Loving. It.
The wife and I were there last week on our tri glide
Its a great ride , you'll not need that cruise for the whole ride ! lol
Back on your "A" game. you guys always have good music on your videos. Thanks.
Absolutely beautiful and I LOVE the tent, so spacious, wondering did it take up more room or about same?
I was going to ride the Natchez Trace this spring, but couldn't find the motorcycle I want. Waited and waited for a Honda NC750x DCT at any dealership within 100 miles, but no luck. Finally went to order one two months ago just to find out Honda doesn't allow it. I put a deposit down and get the next one that shows up. It was supposed to be in last month, now sometime later this month. At this point I'm just hoping I can break it in with enough time to ride the Natchez Trace before it gets too cold. Spring will be the Blue Ridge Pky if the motorcycle gods allow.
My commute home from work is from Asheville to Bull Gap at mile marker 377. I’ve not stayed at Crabtree yet either. Love the new tent!! Did you stop at Mt. Mitchell?
You should drop down to Toccoa Georgia and see the training site for 101st airborn as seen in the movie Band of Brothers...great museum
Where are you guys now? I’d love to catch up with you for a day!
🙏🙏
The pavement around Grandfather Mt sucks 😕. I can be on the BRP in 45 minutes! I love it !
Good morning, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia time. Welcome. You can visit my country in these fun days and forget about my amazing towing trailer 🥹 You are welcome at all times🌹
Nice tent, love the mudroom porch area.have you seen a utuber from Australia who invented the motorcycle camping tent? Mototent I believe its called.simple to put up but has a porch to house the motobike.keeps it "garaged".out of rain.easy to pack up and keep dry.or could be used as a bathroom area.sells them all over
Were on the Parkway now. Aug 14. Maybe we will catch up to you if this wasn't recorded too long ago.
Been on the parkway many times but never ridden the whole thing
Haha, best roads? for a minute there I thought this story was about Oregon!
It’s a shame it’s so slow. I love Cherohala Skyway before it’s fast and flowing with higher speed limits.
My back yard. :)
Come to India, ride above 19000 ft above sea level 😎.
We would love that. 👍👍
Love this video ❤😉, great scenery, great roads and a great couple who know how to enjoy each other and what God has given them 💑 🏍🏍! Btw: what music 🎶 is that? Love the love you share with us. Another bucket list ride. Ride safe and enjoy your adventures. 👍🏍TX "WindSister"
what is the name of the tent
In This video it’s a Colman but that tent had failed zippers we have and live the Eureka Base Camp now. Here’s a link
amzn.to/3PtAznd
I have a question???
Do you guys miss the trailer for the HD/Miss Alice
It would seem to me that it would handle the gear better.
Be safe
I would agree with your 'lead-in.' You have no idea!
Do you use an app to find campground?
If so which one do you recommend?
Thank you!
Hey Chris, I noticed you have an aftermarket windscreen on your Tiger. What is it? I'm looking to replace mine.
I use an mra xcreen. that's what it looks like and works great.
nice views, but why not atgatt?
What happened to your GS?
Email address?

There is one thing I don't like about your video. That is I'm not riding with you.Have fun.
Oh, I love the Blue Ridge. You guy are doing a good presentation of it on video. Thank you so much
I am lucky enough to live less than an hour away from BRP. My wife who also rides, and I have ridden it end to end 3 times and enjoyed every mile of it. I have missed this whole season of riding due to rotator cuff surgery, but the parkway will be one of my first rides when I am able to get back on the bike. Just watch out for the animals.
A little rain is fine. Me….I got caught southbound in a high elevation in NC near the VA border, in a thunder and lightning storm with heavy downpours. I literally thought I might die! It happened so fast, I didn’t put on my rain gear. Big mistake. Anyway, I did survive, but couldn’t wait for Cherokee. I stayed in Little Switzerland too.
You went through Maggie valley, and you didn't stop at wheels through time like I suggested!?!? You missed a huge opportunity. Jayman...
We did stop last year we have a video on it Jayman. 👍
I sure do miss riding the Parkway. I guess my last time up there was in 1997 on a Heritage Soft Tail
Great video, awesome music, thanks for sharing.
Well , really enjoyed this video, mainly because we did the similar route , and your map comes up with 3 knobs overlook , remember it well , In 2013 we flew into Washington DC hired motorcycles from eagle Rider for a couple of weeks and rode down to Deals Gap , what an amazing country you have , very envious of you at this time , not the camping though 😂 stay safe , GL ,
I will have to ride the BRP on my bike, but I just retired and plan to start a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in Feb of 2023. In March of 2019 I hiked the trail for 10 days from Troutville to Sunset Field on the BRP. Up in that section, the trail wanders back and forth across the Blue Ridge. It was great and I can hardly wait to see it again. A motorcycle ride of the entire BRP will have to wait until after I make my thru-hike.
The Parkway is a great ride. The 35 mph sections in Va. seem so slow but it’s still pretty. Y’all should consider taking the road almost to the top of Mt. Mitchell, there’s a short paved trail to the top of the mountain from the parking lot. The campground is nice too, it’s on the right part way up the road. There are only about 10 sites, the sites are an easy walk from the small parking area.
Good luck getting a spot up there.
I tried for several years before managing it!
But I can't imagine riding by without going up.
That's my every Easter ride to declare winter's end .... If the road is open lol
Hi Freinds, I am just one of the many friends you have and you don't even know us. You are part of my Sunday routine that I look forward to every week. I do have a question about finding tent camping sites. I am going on a 1700-mile Cruze and have been looking for camping on the way.MD, IN, TN, NC, VA then back home to MD. Do you use mapping software or just wing it?
Thanks for being with us Tom. We do just wing it, but we do try to move camps on a Sunday and / or Wednesday
I rode the Blue Ridge north to south and back from CENTRAL NEW YORK in early June. I also rode Skyline and the Blue Ridge again in late July. My ride into N C was canceled because of the rain coming but I rode VA's claw of the dragon for 2 days. The Jefferson National Forest area of Virginia has some very good mountain twisting roads. The road known as The Back of the Dragon from Marion to Tazewell is a must ride 👌
WOW!. beautiful views. lots of motorcycles. loved that old tree. all those tunnels is pretty cool. and, i love that tent. like a small apt. too big for me, i do have a 3 person tent, but i figure 2 can be real comfy, instead of 3 to close together. anyway, neat ride, good mello tunes, see you on the next installment. be safe.
Thanks for this. I’m in my planning stages for doing this in June. I will be running a north to south and planning to camp. I’m the minimalist (compared to “Old Guy on a bike”) I will be in search for trees to hang my hammock. ;). I toured with Jim last summer in Newfoundland, this will be my adventure for this year. Hoping you both are recharging and that your dreams and projects are going well. Cheers
Watch out for deer on the side of the road or jumping out across the roadway
Awesome road. 👌
I have looked down on top of a lightning 🌩 storm from the Blue Ridge.
Great video you guys.
You guys are back to real camping...fantastic...Rich back on the Harley...I am subscribing again!
You're in for some good riding now. I've lost track of the number of times the wife and I have ridden the Blue Ridge. We've camped multiple times at The Parkway's beautiful campgrounds Have fun!
