Try some Darn Tough socks. They are made from merino wool, naturally anti bacterial making them odor resistant. Much healthier for your feet too. The backpacking community loves them so I tried a pair. I was skeptical but now that is all I wear. No more stinky feet, motorcycle or work boots.

I agree - once I tried them never looked back. My son, a green beret for 20 years and served 28 yrs calls them smart socks and also recommends them.

bass pro used to sell some " forever socks, they were the warmest fluffy sock but they weren't wool but super warm and no stinky feet .i have 4 pairs of them and if i have shoes on, which isnt alot i have them on and ive had them for years.

Darn Tough socks are the BEST! And, if you do wear then out, they can be returned, even without a receipt, and they will be replaced without cost to you as they're guaranteed for life.

    • @mikebittner9546

    • @takeaim420
      @takeaim420 2 роки тому +2

I second this. I wear them every day, even when I'm not adventuring. Plus they wash well in a hotel sink.
A bit pricey, but they have a lifetime guarantee and last for a looooong time

One thing I found heading east on the BRP from Maggie Valley is it can be tough during sun rise hours because at some turns I encountered the sun right in my eyes. If I’m to do it again, I’ll head east after 9:00 a.m. Maggie Vally is the perfect place to have a motorcycle rally. They have it all! Hotels, a great field in town to host a rally, Wheels through time, restaurants, and some of the best motorcycling roads east of the Mississippi.

Glad you are riding the Blue Ridge. I have lived in NC for all my life and started riding it in the 60's. There is too much to see in one trip on the parkway. if you get a chance, stop at Doughton Park and eat at The Bluff. In 1949, The Bluffs became the first dining establishment to open on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Doughton Park does have a campgrounds also.

I will have to ride the BRP on my bike, but I just retired and plan to start a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in Feb of 2023. In March of 2019 I hiked the trail for 10 days from Troutville to Sunset Field on the BRP. Up in that section, the trail wanders back and forth across the Blue Ridge. It was great and I can hardly wait to see it again. A motorcycle ride of the entire BRP will have to wait until after I make my thru-hike.

Woke up in after camping outside Cherokee on the morning of 9/11/01. Went into a small place for breakfast and everyone was huddled around a radio saying "America is under attack". We hit the road to head home to PA as we had no idea what the gas situation would be. Rode the entire length of the BRP and never saw another vehicle. Did not adhere to the 45 mph speed limit. Everyone was glued to their TVs. Will never forget that day and that ride. It was erie, like the world had ended and we were the only survivors.

A little rain is fine. Me….I got caught southbound in a high elevation in NC near the VA border, in a thunder and lightning storm with heavy downpours. I literally thought I might die! It happened so fast, I didn’t put on my rain gear. Big mistake. Anyway, I did survive, but couldn’t wait for Cherokee. I stayed in Little Switzerland too.

I rode the Blue Ridge north to south and back from CENTRAL NEW YORK in early June. I also rode Skyline and the Blue Ridge again in late July. My ride into N C was canceled because of the rain coming but I rode VA's claw of the dragon for 2 days. The Jefferson National Forest area of Virginia has some very good mountain twisting roads. The road known as The Back of the Dragon from Marion to Tazewell is a must ride 👌

I love the BRP and the 45 MPH speed limit is perfect (assuming people actually drive at that speed.... many drive cloer to 30 MPH which can be very annoying...) Skyline Drive / Shenandoah National Park is also a nice way to continue the drive/ride on the north end but it has a 35 MPH speed limit and they charge admission for the 100 mile road.
One recent downer for the BRP is the campgrounds - some of them have been neglected and need some series work. Crabtree Falls Campground (where you are staying) is one of them. I like Mount Pisgah due to the higher elevation. Julian Price is another one that needs some TLC - at least as of last year.

Over the past 40 years, my wife and I have ridden every mile of the Blue Ridge with some of it several times Such a great place to relax while riding. One year ago we moved on to a HD Try Glide Ultra. At age 70 it is so easy to ride and not having to worry about falling as much. It also can carry a huge amount of travel gear and the 114 M8 will haul the mail. Enjoy the parkway, we sure have. Actually we were there 3 weekends ago from Irmo South Carolina up US-321 straight shot to Boone/Blowing Rock and Grandfathers mountain.

The Parkway is a great ride. The 35 mph sections in Va. seem so slow but it’s still pretty. Y’all should consider taking the road almost to the top of Mt. Mitchell, there’s a short paved trail to the top of the mountain from the parking lot. The campground is nice too, it’s on the right part way up the road. There are only about 10 sites, the sites are an easy walk from the small parking area.

Internet has made certain road ways the, "dragon tail" popular, so many want too experience roadway too. You remind me of biker friend. She rented small place in Oregon City then took a white windowless dodge service van with Yamaha 750 Virgo on bike trailer. This is what reminded me of her, she'd say, it's not the road but the region or county, always look at bigger picture. Try too check out whole area then move on. She had white hair, black leather riding suit with truck an bike always in immaculate condition! Marjorie Bird was a true female biker before her time, logging years an thousands of miles on motorcycle immersed in your life style!

I was going to ride the Natchez Trace this spring, but couldn't find the motorcycle I want. Waited and waited for a Honda NC750x DCT at any dealership within 100 miles, but no luck. Finally went to order one two months ago just to find out Honda doesn't allow it. I put a deposit down and get the next one that shows up. It was supposed to be in last month, now sometime later this month. At this point I'm just hoping I can break it in with enough time to ride the Natchez Trace before it gets too cold. Spring will be the Blue Ridge Pky if the motorcycle gods allow.

I rode from front royal, va via skyline drive to Waynesboro then the brp to the end in Cherokee took 3 days. Left the next morning headed home in charlotte and caught the edge of a hurricane. The brp is a lot of chipseal pavement. When freshly done there is a ton of gravel on the road

Nice tent, love the mudroom porch area.have you seen a utuber from Australia who invented the motorcycle camping tent? Mototent I believe its called.simple to put up but has a porch to house the motobike.keeps it "garaged".out of rain.easy to pack up and keep dry.or could be used as a bathroom area.sells them all over

My commute home from work is from Asheville to Bull Gap at mile marker 377. I’ve not stayed at Crabtree yet either. Love the new tent!! Did you stop at Mt. Mitchell?
