Crossing the Gulf always brings some trepidation for Loopers. Whether you go "straight across" as we did for a lengthy crossing out of sight of land, or take the "Big Bend" route which brings you in closer to the coastline for about three hops beween Apalachicola and Clearwater Beach, the key to a safe and comfortable crossing is selecting a good weather window. See why we went at night rather than in daylight, why we altered our course and speed, and whether those strategies helped us avoid uncomfortable conditions (spoiler alert: They did not!).
