one thing i found cool was that kicking in the compressor on clean setting pretty much restored all the color that the amp loses when you dial back the gain.
@@aegisreflector1239 I'd say yes, it's more than loud enough to play with a drummer. Though I am plugging it into a B52 4x12 cab, they're great and you can get em cheap. I can't go above volume 3 without the walls and windows shaking. So depending what kind of cab you are plugging into I would say your mileage may vary. But if you are plugging into a decent 2x12 you're good. If you are plugging into a 4x12 yeah you won't have any issues.
This is my next purchase. Awesome review, really got into the weeds. Loved how you showed all the settings with no pedals first.

Hey, i' m doing all band rehearsals and even club gigs in stereo with two of these awful little bastards, using a mxr compressor , wah-pedal and t-rex mudhoney II,-distortion in front and boss eq,-7, polara reverb, t-rex delay, ce-2 chorus and (for queen-covers) an eventide pitchfactor in the effect-loop to make the sound more versatile, because I' m playing in three completly different bands (A Bluesrock band, a cover band and a prog-metal band!). Everything works great and SOUNDS F-A-N-T-A-S-T- I- C!! - The micro-dark is really AMAZING, especially for THAT small money! Greetings!! 🤘🎸
I know it’s been 4-ish years that you wrote this comment, but if you have any chance to see this, I think that’s a hell of a rig you have there ! Plus, really helpful for me in a way, so thank you for sharing. Rock on 🤘🏻
It's pretty crazy how much you can get out of that amp. I used 120W head before Orange, and i gotta say i do like this one better. It can get noisy, but it can do so much more with lower volume. Through a 4x12 cab it's crazy. The tones are so pure.
I couldn't be much more satisfied with my rockerverb mkii but with that said the micro dark is prolly still the most fun and dynamic amp I've played and after almost a year of having it I still get so excited to play on it. 2000$ worth of tone under 200$ simply sweet as I believe the demo shows.. play soft get a nice dirty clean crunch out of it or play it hard an feel the overdrive come to life! what you put into it comes right back at you full force. buy one
The knobs are really sensitive......British man chuckles to himself 🇬🇧😂 Great review. This is my live backup if the Orange TH goes down (chuckles again 🇬🇧😂)
wow that compressor really gets out the mooosh. btw I have a rabbit that does what your dog does. she loves it when I play. she runs around, and lies down by my feet. she also loves when Roy Buchanan plays :)
Mick from TPS suggests using this amp with an overdrive pedal with the settings low, as a reduction of gain. He used the pedal for a cleaner sound and when he disengaged the pedal, it immediately gave him that big sound for solos. Amazing how usable these little things can be for the money.
Wow brother, i just got my Micro Dark, looked at alot of videoes on this, had the micro terror, was Awesome, and it its over the top for tone with my Les Paul,,but Im telling you, My Fender Strats have never sounded better in the like crunch mode settings on this little beast, i have an Ibanez ts808 made in Japan reissue which is Awsome, and paid nearly 200 dollars for it new, but i can get just as great tone on my micro dark with my strat, in the right settings as it..and you rock brother..Fantastic revue, thanks
best review of this awesome little amp I've seen! have a triple recto currently but thinking about changing things up. band uses in-ears so really just need tone, not ear-splitting volume. maybe I'll get two of these and do a kick-ass little stereo setup! Great job House of David!
Phil & HOD, you nailed it! This amp does it ALL! I have one and play through my Zilla Cabs Deep Small Vintage with 2 x 12 Neo Creambacks. I've put every kind of guitar through it from Gretsch Eddie Cochran to Strats, LPs... You can go blues clean to blues way dirty and on to chugga-chugga-death-by-metal and its all sweet. The cleans are the most unexpected delight. Just a decent guitar and this amp (no pedals) and you can go from Blackberry Smoke to Black Crowes, Clutch, EoDM, Metallica, SOAD... ANYTHING! I've also put pedals in the front and the Eff-Loop round the back and its just effing awesome! Worth every penny/cent!
Hamish Harper I use this as my main gigging amp. Use it with drive pedals in front, reverb and delay in FX loop. With a Panama 2x10 Cab and a Gibson Les Paul Studio. Can cover just about any ground and practically any gig that’s not outdoors. Sounds fantastic!
If only this amp had the aux in jack for home practice with jamming tracks... I might have to go with the Micro Terror instead. Maybe pick up the Micro Dark later.
Whoa, came for the amp, stayed for the jeans... what a guy! Do you think a 2x12 cab would be ok with this with a tube screamer in front for a bit more growl?
Tyler Rokks Absolutely on the 2x12. And with the tone cleaned up a bit (good rock n roll rhythm distortion sound), an overdrive would kill. Compressors work great, too.
This amp is sick! Small but, packs a punch. I place my TC Electronics Hall of Fame Reverb in the loop and off i go. Get a couple and just jam!! BTW...Killer jeans brother. Like the other comment, you do look like a young Zakk. Aloha!!
ForlornTrooper Hey there! It's a 2010 Traditional that I totally fucked up. Stripped finish and Duncan Whole Lotta Humbuckers. Now it sounds awesome. 😉. Thx for watching!!
I have this head but it doesn’t chug to my liking. Not in power but in actual sound. What pedals can I add to get this thing to give me more of a pantera sound for AC/DC or sabbath??
What about OD pedals? I like the tone but as you crank the gain it gets fuzzy in the low end. If you take the gain back to "barely crunchy" and slam the front end with say a Tubescreamer, does it tighten up or it still fuzzes out? EDIT: BTW, freakin' EXCELLENT review of the amp man! Great playing as well. Forgot all my manners!
Julia Speer Yes it does. I was very surprised at how well it reacted to the vol knobs. “Cleaner” tone plus compressor helps keep your highs when ducking the vol knob.
I am torn between this one and the orange micro , i am a metal and classic rock player but sometime you need to clean up for so chorus effect? what do you suggest?
CalitranoN Hello and thanks for the question. Don’t let the term “dark” influence you. It is a great classic rock n roll amp, too. I would suggest the Dark Terror, just to ensure that you have enough gain.
have you not ever been to somebody else's house? in that case, you would have been SuperSoepstengel, in the house of notSuperSoepstengel. strange, strange, but it happens :)
Lavabug it wasn't loud in the studio. That's my dog and he loves it at the studio. I was behind the camera. He was looking at me. 😀 Hope you enjoyed the video.
This is a really good review. I wish most reviewers were this direct and straightforward.
that compressor works miracles with this amp. pretty exciting
Guitars and dogs. What's not to like?
Óscar García Hinde Exactly. 👍🏻👍🏻

The amount of talking he does.

I watched this review, then immediately bought this amp. No joke. I am now a happy Micro Dark owner.
I just did the same. And found a great deal on their PPC112 1x12" V-30 cab for it too.
Is it good for playing with a drummer?
@@aegisreflector1239 It's adequate, but with miking these days, then yes.

Have you tried running the Micro Dark through the effects return of another Tube amp so its all tube then?
User Illusion why? My Randall has 7 preamp tubes.
I enjoyed watching this man. Entertaining sample, well done. That little terror sounds sweet!
4:42 “The amp isn’t designed to play clean.”
Turns volume up
“That’s actually a pretty good clean tone.”

so did you get one?

Hi Buddy and Hi Phil.
Nice review, nice trousers
Awesome review told me everything I needed to know
Isaac Allison Thank you!!
no problem, keep on ROCKIN!!
Dude is that a copper top LP or is it like a leathery brown/natural? It looks badass either way

Can you use it with frfr speaker?
young zakk wylde??

shiron b Definitely not too loud for that.

Of course you can sir! I'll be waiting!
It definitely tightens it up, I own one and a good OD definitely works well with it.
intro scared the sh*t out of me lmao
what speakers in the cab?
The top is The Bad Cat. Bottom Celestion GT75.
Thanks for watching.
Good Review, thanks
Hey David or anyone for that matter. Does the Micro Dark clean up well with the volume knob? If so I think I just found the perfect road amp.

amazing vid by the way

Just my opinion, but the Micro Dark sounds totally ass when played through anything less than a 4x12.

I find it isn't too bad with a good 2x12 but yeah especially the 8inch speaker that orange sells for it! Yuck!
