    Been watching all your videos this morning! I just enrolled for the BA Honors History degree and am so excited to start it. I’m absolutely fascinated by The Tudors in particular so am very much looking forward to a deep dive into Elizabeth I in particular in the first half of the module. Your videos are so helpful. Thank you!!

      Spoiler alert Owen Tudor was a poacher who married an old Queen so they had a very poor claim to the throne. I too like Queen Elizabeth Tudor too a hard life despite being a Princess and then illegitimate and then a Princess and eventually a great queen 👑

      No problem and thanks for watching. I’m sure you’ll love A111. Being the first module for many students it’s a fairly easy going start, with lots of interesting topics covered

      Me too as part of Classical Studies. I am worried about the music and creative writing sections as very different to what I am interested in

      @@carlheffernan6104 Classical studies will be my fave i think. I am doing 'Introduction into the Classical World' so I have more of an idea what primary and secondary sources are. it has really helped. That is through OU, OpenLearn. Yeah, I am not looking forward to the music side of things, did that in college and I definitely do not have any interest in it haha.

      @@carlheffernan6104 I wouldn’t worry too much.. because of the way the assessments are presented you have an option of subjects to choose from. I found I enjoyed reading the materials for some of the music units and even the creative writing unit but I haven’t chosen to do the assignments on them, instead choosing to spend more time on the English, Classical and History units and choose these subjects for the assignments

    Hi I have bought a Christmas Carol and have been doing research. Do they expect you to look at it from a class perspective i.e. the rich and poor juxtaposition ? Or, are you allowed to find your own interpretation?

      Hi. As A111 is an introductory module and the unit on Charles Dickens is the first literature unit, it’s not as deep as looking into class difference, although this is mentioned and a comparison (albeit brief) is made between the way Dickens writes about the poor compared to Elizabeth Gaskell in Mary Barton. The unit focuses on Dickens narrating style and how he sets the scene, especially when introducing the different ghosts in the story. There is also some bits about adapting A Christmas Carol for the stage and students are asked to think about what parts of the novel they would exclude, or whether there are any parts they would add when adapting the novel for the stage. However, I do think it’s good to also get your own feeling for the text and think about what comes to mind when you’re reading it 😊

    Hi Dan - how did you structure your essays? 'Cause I am struggling to get my A111 TMA's.

    • @DanUniAndBooks
      @DanUniAndBooks  Рік тому

      So far for TMA 01 the word limits are quite short so not really like an essay as such where I’d normally have intro, main body, conclusion. I find so far I’ve just done 2 or 3 paragraphs highlighting the points raised in the guidance. In terms of layout I just use the layout I’m used to, using Ariel 12 and 1.5 spacing with a header (Name, PI number and TMA number) and page number as a footer

    Dan would you recommend doing a masters abroad? I want to study Anthropology but dont have the relevant background, also certain countries like Germany its free apart from admission fee

      I can’t say this is my area of expertise. I imagine any qualification from an institution abroad would be just as respected as a UK qualification. From the top of my head the only questions I’d have would be what language the course is taught in and would the fees be the same for international students as for home students (especially if it’s free for home students). If you’re interested in any particular courses with particular universities there’s no harm in contacting them directly to ask any questions you may have. Sorry I can’t be of more help but I haven’t any experience in overseas masters

    When you say skip music-does that mean there no assessment on it?

    • @DanUniAndBooks
      @DanUniAndBooks  Рік тому +2

      So for A111 every TMA or assessment has options to choose from… so for my next assignment TMA 3 I have the option to choose either doing a music assignment, a classical studies assignment, a creative writing assignment or an English literature assignment… so it’s not that there are not music assessments but because of having an option, it means you can choose not to do the music assignment and do another subject if that makes sense
