Winston Spencer Churchill, the greatest Leader and my Hero, the ' LAST LION ' ! I was most fortunate to visit his Great Country Home, and his final Resting Place, in October of 2019. Thanks for your Excellent, Video ❣ 🇬🇧 Roland Singh, Canada 🇨🇦
Hi Roland, Thanks so much, I am so glad you liked the video. We are very fortunate that Chartwell is only a short distance away, and we visit regularly to see the changes in the gardens, and it reminds us of how much a family man Winston was. We have also seen his last resting place in Westminster Abbey, but unfortunately, video isn't allowed, so we just have the photos from that visit. Once again, thanks so much for taking the time to comment. Stay safe, stay well and happy travels. Gary & Janis
Fantastic, have a great time - the rain should have passed by then, so you should get to enjoy the gardens - It's probably best to do the house first and then the gardens and prepare to get a little muddy - don't miss Winston's studio either. All the best, Gary & Janis
Hi Teresa, It is a beautiful place, and you get a real sense of Winston, the family man. I'm pleased you liked our video Long may it be kept in such wonderful condition. All the best, Gary & Janis
Thanks you so much Laura. It's a beautiful place to take a look around, with loads of history of a very interesting individual and his family life. All the best, Gary & Janis
Thanks Andy; it's a great place to visit, and there's a lot of interesting information about Churchill at Chartwell; you get to see so many different aspects of the man. I think we will be heading back in late spring to take another look around. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, All the best, Gary & Janis
Looks like a great day for a visit! Enjoyed my visit very much, I think it's one of the places where I've most had a sense of walking in the footsteps of history.
🙏 Thanks Jon. I agree, and also understanding a man we know so much about, and of course, Clementine. It's a beautiful place, and it's easy to understand why he fell in love with it. Thanks again for taking the time to comment
Actually, Winston didn't have a huge amount of cash, or more to the point, he could have been better at keeping it. He was born into aristocracy and had lots of influential friends, but by 1945 he was close to selling Chartwell because he couldn't really afford to run it. However, those friends raised the funds for the National Trust to buy it, and allow the Churchill's to rent it until their deaths. It finally passed entirely to the National Trust in 1965, and opened to the public in 1966. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the video, and thanks for taking the time to comment. Gary & Janis
@@OurWorldForYou Richer than your average Joe though, like politicians today so some things never change as always and yes I enjoyed the video, thanks for posting!
I’ve never visited Chartwell but I really should! This part of Kent is truly beautiful. Westerham, Sevenoaks, Knole park and Brasted to name but a few. Also the villages of Eynsford, Shoreham, Otford towards Bat and Ball and onwards towards Sevenoaks are gorgeous for walking. Another lovely video, thank you!
Lucieni, you really should, and this time of year, the gardens will look amazing. It's a great day out, and it's a beautiful estate to explore where you get to see the different sides of Winston Churchill. I don't think you've discovered our Darenth Valley Road Trip yet - ua-cam.com/video/VlxrVgIl8mo/v-deo.html The first part takes in Farningham & Eynesford, part 2 takes in Shoreham & Otford. Thanks, as always, for your comment; we appreciate them. Hope you've had a great sunny weekend in the Garden of England Cheers, Gary & Janis
Magnificent tour. Wish I could have visited in person. Do wish the audio did not sound like you are whispering to me while on a tour with a guide leading us through.
Hi, Sorry about that, looks like I may have to remix the audio for this, you're not the first person to mention it. The problem is you can't just replace the audio, whole new video needs to be uploaded. Perhaps one for the new year. Anyway, thanks for stopping by to leave a comment, All the best, Gary & Janis
The whispering voice is really quite appropriate - the estate is a 'hushed" beauty of great import - especially the marmalade cat - just kidding - but one does feel the many men & women who gave their lives for us all to escape the hitlerian horrors
Hi Peter, There appears to be a slight problem with the audio. There is another version with the audio corrected if you'd like to try that. ua-cam.com/video/YWlR15j90_4/v-deo.html (I wish it was as simple as just replacing the audio, but that's not an option.) All the best, Gary & Janis
Hi Tony, Apologies, that's my fault - Hopefully better on my later videos, always trying to improve. Thanks for taking the time to comment, and I hope it didn't spoil it too much for you. All the best, Gary & Janis
no problem, nice for all the detail which most vids dont have - visited once years ago when living in kent - interesting lead fake or fortune fiona bruce track down history of churchill painting - you tube - good job on chartwell -
Tony, I'll have to check to see if Janis has watched that, I know she loved the series. I love adding the detail, but the research takes time, and I try to make sure it's as accurate as possible, because once it's baked in, that's it. Glad you enjoyed it, now I have to get my head down to finish Chester. All the best, Gary (& Janis)
@14:14 I’ve only ever seen black swans at Trago, Newton Abbot but apparently they live around Dawlish too. Not native (Australia) but they’re absolutely beautiful. Trago NA also have wandering Peacocks and families of pale (Albino?) peahens and fluffy babies wandering around the premises (Saw them a couple of weeks ago, 2 mums with 3 fluffsome chicks each!)
Lucieni, there's some closer to home at the Friars at Aylesford, You get a glimpse in our video - ua-cam.com/video/nlyj37C1bYs/v-deo.html . Beautiful, but give them space because they can get a bit peckish

Hi Stan, I read that, he was a very hands-on man. Although, If you catch the BBC series on the Houses of the National Trust, you discover his ambition outweighed his skills. The good news is the wall he built has now been made safe and will continue to be part of the Chartwell Estate. Thanks for taking the time to comment, All the best, Gary & Janis

I went on a trip there in 1 grade now I’m in 2 grade
I hope you remember all the history of the house (and I hope I got it all right!)
He was obviously minted having a house and interior like that, it’s very nice!

Nicely shot video but have to ask why you are whispering as we couldn't quite make out some of what you were saying over the piano music

Churchill took to brick laying and he built the wall in1930s during what's called his 'wilderness years'.
