  • The Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS) is a sophisticated military platform that enables remote operation of various weapon systems, thereby increasing soldiers' safety during combat scenarios. Housed within an armored vehicle, this cutting-edge system comprises a stabilized mount, an extensive suite of sensors, a weapon station, and fire control software.
The sensor suite is equipped with a daylight video camera, a thermal camera for night operations, and a laser rangefinder, which together facilitate accurate target acquisition and engagement, even when the vehicle is moving.
CROWS offers compatibility with an extensive range of weapons, increasing its adaptability on the battlefield. It can operate a variety of machine guns, such as the M2 .50 Cal, M240B, and MK19, and even the M134 Minigun. It is also compatible with the M249 SAW, M6 LRSS, M230 LF, and the Javelin missile system. For close range and anti-vehicle purposes, it supports the use of grenade launchers like the M320 and M307.
CROWS' ability to operate these weapons under remote control substantially enhances soldiers' protection. Furthermore, by boosting the crew's situational awareness and reaction time, CROWS offers a significant strategic advantage in diverse combat scenarios, making it a critical asset for the U.S. military and NATO forces.

I'll wait for the CROWS 4 to come out before buying one.

Had these in Iraq back in 2007. Worked very well to fire weapons systems especially the .50 Cal machine guns. But any jams requires the crew to pull back and clear the exposed weapons systems.

How come the cameras are so exposed? Were they not destroyed by enemy return fire?

@@MrEagleeye58they’re harder to hit because the CROWS not only help the soldier fire the weapon while inside the vehicle but also increased engagement range due to the computer and cameras. The longer the range the harder it is to hit for someone who doesn’t have computer support. Besides anyone would take replacing an expensive camera to getting shot and killed so it is well worth the money.

Used one of these in Afghan... and fell asleep at the joystick (briefly). Being up in the turret keeps you sharper. I did like the zoom and thermal modes, though.

A Humvee and a High-Profile Crow is the most disgusting system ever period. Maybe a Low-Profile Crow is suiting for it.

Cool! But how does it clear stoppages?

No. Another reason to be up in the turret...

Stoppages often require manual intervention, but CROWS' design minimizes these instances through its advanced fire control software.
