I taught my 16 yo son to shoot 357 mag with the 6.5 inch barrel and it is a great revolver for the money. I also own S&W and once had an issue with a Taurus revolver in the past many years ago. The new models especially the Tracker has redeemed itself. Way better QC!! Very short and concise great review!
Taurus got a bad rap in the past and it was deserved, they turned out a lot of crap in Brazil years ago. QC is much improved now days and they make very good quality firearms.
My 4inch 627 was shooting 4 inches low right out of box. I bought a laser bore sight to set it around the house aiming it at different things. I had to raise it a good bit, feeling much better about the sight picture now.
Liked... 👍 This is my first handgun. I like that it has some weight to it (I've fired a Glock 22 about a week ago and it felt far too light). I also like that it doesn't have as much recoil as others, and it's simplicity as a revolver; should be a great gun! 😃
@@progun45 Thanks... Yeah, I'm definitely thinking that it is. Originally I was going to go with a 10mm revolver of some kind, but I saw this in a few shops around town. I eventually wound up buying it from a shop owner who had basically handpicked it for me earlier - after I told him what I was looking for in a handgun (I'm loyal in that way). Brand new, at that... $589.00. Not bad at all - considering how expensive Rugers and Smith & Wessons are. I like it's matte finish and everything about it so far... It does seem surprisingly meaty; a little larger than I had originally seen it as being, somehow, the third time I held it once I got it back to my home. But this is a good thing; it feels solid and stable in my hands. .44 Magnums and up are in the hand cannon category, as I see it; I didn't want anything exactly like that - but still with decent power - so this is perfect for me.
The only thing I really don't like about my 627 is the obviously lower metal quality when compared to my beautiful 20 year old 617 which uses the same frame. Otherwise I love it.
@@tedsplaylistwindish3015 I said Taurus Semi-Automatics suck. I always liked their revolvers. I still wouldn't trust my life to a Taurus semi-automatic.

It's a great gun, it's just hard to use with a speed loader. I bought on because I couldn't afford a S&W.
That is where the 7th round comes in handy.
@@progun45 Harry Callahan would've had some fun with that😆

I like mine a lot. It's a great value. Cleaning the port is a pain but overall it's a great gun.
Thanks for the succinct review.
Thanks, glad you liked it.

Great gun for the money and has nice weight to it. The ported barrel really reduces the recoil.

Cool gun like mine alot!
Great value for the money.
Just bought a new 6.5" for $495 and have no issues .Taurus states not to dry fire without snap caps.
Any modern revolver can be fired without snap caps. I do use them anyway tho.

For the price, it's still a very good gun. Cleaning the port is a bit of a pain tho.
Does the matte finish lend itself to more corrosion than the ‘brushed’ or bead-blasted stainless on the 686 or GP100?
I don't think the matte finish is any more prone to corrosion than any other finish. I always keep a light coat of oil on all my guns to prevent rust.
Im looking to buy a Taurus..Does anyone know how this compares to the Taurus 66? Tried to look at S&W 686 but dont want to spend 1,000 on a revolver.
The Taurus Tracker is beefier than the 66 and has a ported barrel. I love this gun.
I've got a Taurus model 65 that shoots just as good and is just as reliable as my 686 smith or my ruger redhawk.
Is that you, Frank?
Yes it's me. Not a fan of Taurus semi-automatics but love their revolvers.
When I got my RI 206, you warned me not to. Surprised you embrase Taurus. BTW, love my snubby.
