    Really nice video! Our aftercooler vid is of a brand new AC, people keep asking us to make a vid like this of a well used AC. This is really good stuff!

    Hope that thread sealer is conductive, if not that zinc would be useless

    Why do you not put replacement strip on the core? The come in the gasket kit.

    How did you pressure test the intercooler core tubes to ensure there are no leaks?

    • @abredeson
      @abredeson  3 роки тому +2

      I took the aftercoolers to a radiator shop and they pressure tested them to make sure we didn’t have any leaks.

    How often are you supposed to service an aftercooler ? I had someone tell me every 2 years ,and that they should be pressure checked. What are your thoughts on that please ? Thank you.

    NEVER pus thread sealant on a zinc fitting. You do not want to electrically isolate the zinc from the housing!

    • @abredeson
      @abredeson  2 роки тому

      Yes, rookie mistake on my part.

      @@abredeson No problem using the sealant. If you measure the resistance between the fitting and engine ground, you will get no resistance at all. Meaning sealant has no affect on the contact between zinc and engine. Don't take my word for it. Take the reading for yourself.

    Thanks for the video. Although I have the QSB engines, the process is still the same. There is a drain hole, for lack of a better term. you could hook up a hose to it. it allows oil to come out if something happens otherwise it is dry. do you know what would cause the oil to come out of there?

    • @abredeson
      @abredeson  4 роки тому

      CaptSteveRussell , oil coming from the turbo I’m guessing. I’m not sure what a normal amount is.

      @@abredeson thanks. At 8:47 into the video, left side, it looks like a hose connector with no hose ever connected. I can't load a pic to show it but it looks like that.

    • @BennyTheWoo
      @BennyTheWoo 3 роки тому

      @@coastaljourneys2851 that is a condensation drain valve. Basically, its open with engine off to allow condensation out. It is closed under boost by boost pressure.
      A small amount of oily residue isn’t uncommon, emphasis on small.
      The valves benefit from periodic cleaning too.

    Dumb question: what do you do with all your dirty liquids when you're done, like the bucket of simple green with all the solvents and oil and nasties in it?

    • @abredeson
      @abredeson  3 роки тому

      I keep all the different chemicals separate and drop them off at a Hazardous materials drop off site near by.

    What's the age of these engines? I'm looking at a 1987 B4588
    Any concern about all that grease getting into the engine?

    • @abredeson
      @abredeson  3 роки тому

      These engines are 2001 Cummins. I don’t have a concern about the grease. On the air side it can settle to the bottom and can be drained out

    What kind of acid do you use and what mixing ratio?

    • @abredeson
      @abredeson  5 років тому +1

      JP Tec , I didn’t use any acid. I sprayed the cores with brake cleaner and then soaked them in simple green overnight. They were not very dirty.

    • @abredeson
      @abredeson  5 років тому +1

      The water tubes were clear. I did run a long stainless rod through them. They did not have much build up in them.

    Great Video. Thank you! Did you remove the silicone stripes on the side of the sides of the core?

      Soundview Millworks , Yes, the cleaner takes them right off.
