    Dan Savage is so right, over the past 2 years and even during the campaign, he's increased America's tolerance of "impeachable" acts. And it's worked so well because of how soft dems have been during his first 2 years.
    Even with the new wave of dems with actual teeth, the damage has already been done and Fox News just needs 30 or 45 mins tops to downplay whatever disaster he creates.

    I'll always be a fan of Bill Maher, but in response to his ending monologue, I offer a quote by C.S. Lewis. "When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty, I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

      The best rebuttal to Bill Maher shaming adults for reading comic books: "Bill, you still spend time watching sports, don't you?"
      Pretty sure one's a lot better for the brain than the other.
      He's completely tone deaf on this one -- a TON of his viewership are nerds who like comedy and politics as much as they love comic books (which are a medium, not a genre, but he and a ton of folks still think comics are solely about superheroes and aren't aware that there're plenty written for adults-only). There's room for both.
      Yes, it's funny and we can laugh at ourselves when he makes fun of us and it's amusing when he makes fun of his own network's Game Of Thrones by saying it's ridiculous that a shit ton of people know more about the history and geography or Westeros than they do of the real world's history and geography, but his anger at people being unknowledgeable is misdirected. Comics and other nerd culture media aren't the reason Trump got elected. Also, I can walk and chew gum at the same time.

      NIK Maher escapes reality in a chemical way and stares down his nose at people who take a fantasy trip by book every so often. One is much healthier than the other for all that talk of clean eating he does. I have nothing bad to say about people who indulge but just remember that alcohol is also legal and not a good idea for chronic consumption.

    • @augustpedersen6182
      @augustpedersen6182 5 років тому

      Many have taken offense to his stance on comic books and their related movies, but I look at it slightly different: I think he might be open to the fact that comic books can be profound, his problem(or rather, criticism) is that they are most often not. I have read few comic books, so I am no expert on particular ones, but they mostly follow the same tropes that they have covered since the 40's, with exception to some of the social changes, like ethnic equality and women's rights. I have yet to read a comic book that really challenges a person's perspective, or introduces new ideas through controversial thinking, like what 1984, or Sophie's Choice does. I am sure they exist somewhere, but those are not the common superhero comic books and films we are talking about. The Marvel movies are good, they look nice and offer a pause from our world by dreaming a bit. They are not controversial, they are not profound. They are aimed at children. Now, I enjoy them as well, so it's healthy to embrace your inner child at times, with comic books, movies or games. But to act the child at all times, be a hardcore comic book fan at age 30-40? I don't know.. I am happy that we can relate to things across generations now, but we can't lose what it means to be an adult either, both in assuming responsibilites and having a more mature outward appearance. I am positive that there is a comic book out there that Bill Maher would enjoy now, but it's more effective to have a public stance by being black and white about it. Or who knows, maybe he hates comic books and manchildren with a passion. Sorry for the long comment.

    • @Kento_nanami_the_2nd
      @Kento_nanami_the_2nd 5 років тому

      @@augustpedersen6182 Maybe the biggest problem is his art is comedy. There are bad apples in every collective. Some will get the jokes and laugh. Just as some will get the message in comics and not only be entertained but be better people for it. That "black & white" stance seems best justified by comedy and not effectiveness.
      My 2 cents.

His whole comedian persona is being a "cut the bullshit" kind of guy with rude/funny remarks, so this kind of narrative just fits better with him publicly. Huh. That's actually very true and something I've never heard anyone mention despite the hundreds of hours I've probably heard people analyzing this guy.
      He legitimately has a superpower for grabbing attention but the things that he takes credit for being great at are all things that he's very plainly terrible at. Best people, best words, smarter than the generals, big ah-brain, etc. If you're going to brag, why not brag about the thing that you're actually really good at?
      I wonder if that's because he thinks if he calls himself out as a showman he thinks that breaks the illusion. Like pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Or maybe it's the Norman Vincent Peale influence where you constantly say the things that you want to be true until it eventually "becomes true."

    i think it is childish to determine for other people what is childish, and thinking you are able to tell them to ''grow up'
    but i do sorta agree, that not all of them are profound...and people thinking ''all'' comics are profound should expand their view..smoking weed is also perceived being chidish, which combines so well with video games and comic books by the way... do you, dont let anyone tell you what is childish or not... but ofcourse have a broad horizon...but there is nothing with some escapism-of-your-choice once in a while
