Uber Tesla rental for 1 week

- I drove Uber for 1 week with the Hertz EV rental program. There were a lot of pros and cons but by mid week I broke even and was able to make profit so it was worth it for the time being. Thanks for watching this video which is pretty random for me considering my page is mostly about my athletics journey. I'd consider this still to be a part of that journey because having this car allowed me transportation to practice and extra money to be able to get some treatment and good quality food.
Again, thanks for watching

I did this for a year last year starting April 27th working nights as a 2nd job from about 5-2AM. I was able to work my way up to buying a model Y last year and I’m now doing Uber black which is about three times more income with shorter rides. Keep at it and don’t listen to naysayers there is good money to be made and as long as you time it right you’ll make good money in the Tesla vs a regular gas car
You are doing this in Houston?
just the comment i needed

I how much are you making??
@@Vlad_Kalashnikon one of the days she only had 22 trips in 19 hours. That is so faqing slow.
What you make per day is way too low for paying like $500/wk for a car.The Uber Hertz thing is for people who drive 12 hrs a day and make a minimum of $250/day
I was not able to go home while I’m on my Tesla rental must sleep in the car plus the hertz nightmare billing…..no more rental thanks god I’m relieved

Never do this rental a car bs. 😂
I did this. It was like $400/week for me, I was making about $800 a week after the cost of rental and charging. And I only did about 40 hours a week, maybe 45 some times.
I'm so confused. You have to make at least 250 a day for this to make sense
Thanks for doing these videos. It really helps those of us looking to take advantage of the program.
Glad it was helpful!
how much for ???? most important point???
Thanks for a very honest video. Answered lots of questions I had.
More power to you 🙏. Keep up the entrepreneurial mindset! 💪
try putting the suprecharger into navigation and charge 10-80 or 85 percent 90-100 percent is the slowest and the destination prepares the car for faster charging
$20 a day charging is actually not that bad. In LA you would perfectly happy. I drive a Nissan rented through Uber/Avis and spend up to $45 a day in gas driving part time but that also includes about 90 miles of driving for my other job during the day. It would literally cut my fuel cost more then half. If you think of charging as your normal breaks you would take during a regular work day it’s not actually that inconvenient or unthinkable. Just imagine you get two 30 minute breaks like an office job.
And drivers that own a Tesla benefit more because the payment is smaller so $800 a week would cover payment and insurance then the other 3 weeks are all profit.
Love the background music 😍
Cool video with a pretty cool chic!
you are right i rented a tesla for 3 weeks here in miami and the price of electricity during day time is way to much same as gas plus you do not make extra because you are driving a tesla
Thank you ✌️
Love your positivity 👍👍👍
😊 thank you
It All Depends On The Model, you Probably Have Standard Range. As When You Get Long Range It Goes Up To 314 I Think. So Always Look At What Model Is Best For You
Dope video! Charging was definitely a con and the most major CON is renting HERTZ period cause it's definitely HURTZ pockets and extremely counter productive! Its smrter to just invest your own vehicle. Think about $1,658 month basically $20 grand im year!! That's a negative ghost rider
Having a charger at home makes a big difference.
Also from what I understand, you are far better off to buy the car than to rent from Uber/hertz. Can also maybe get a good tax credit.
250 300 a day goal is 6k a month keep 4k 2k rental
Better to outright buy a 2017 or 2018 used Model 3, have a car payment thats less per month than the Hertz rental and make a few private clients on the side paying you 100% in addition to a few Uber trips per day.
Having business cards handy helps ALOT!
@@eyevincast5440 Indeed
Private clients means the proper insurance to cover it. You get into an accident rider could go after you in court.
That's basic, I assume most venturing into it know this.@@EddieLeal
So i have a 2014 Nissan Rogue and I average about 15-20 I too like to do mornings. Here in Colorado Springs I average about 200 a day with about 225 miles a day. Right now im spending about 35 a day on gas because i fill from the half way point.
Man I have so much to say about this first off. I do Ober doordash and grub hub only food not people because you drive less miles. I have my Tesla that I charge at home right now last month it cost me $20 per week. I have the long-range I use the mile check not the percentage and if you charge at super chargers your pain.
About double as if you were to charge at home so I made a $1000 for the week worked about 37 hours and I think if you do it. Right a tesla is the best car to do deliveries
Are you renting though?
Yooo is this Houston? I noticed the skyline and the “BE SOMEONE” bridge.
I drive in Philly M3P. Usually in morning rush hour I make around 75 to 100 in about 3.5 -4.5 hours but some rides include surges. Shame though most are UberX and maybe 1 or 2 comfort. Year ago I would make roughly 180 to 220 in about 6-7 hours at close to 2 - 2.50 per mile with 90% uberX. In my market its mostly uberX
You could easily make $100 a day doing food delivery in a gas car for less than $25 a day in gas and less mileage.
Definitely out here in LA! I was doing that and more with my 2010 Infiniti G37X combined with amazon flex
I haven't driven passengers since Covid. Done mostly DoorDash part and full-time. I make a little less on deliveries but drive way fewer miles, so that makes up for the lower pay. My kid just got her driver's license, so I'm giving her my car and will probably rent a Tesla or a Bolt. I think I have to do a certain number of passenger rides, though. Most of the incentives are for passenger rides only, too. So I might be driving people again.
Been driving my 2016 Tesla since 2020 doing gig jobs with no CONS to report. Good research & planning is key to choosing a Tesla for this GIG lifestyle. I fill up at home while I sleep for like 12 cents per kilowatt, I only use the supercharger on my lunch break ( free supercharging...car is ready to go before I'm done with food /restroom), wait on rides/gigs at free destination chargers, hit my goal of $200 & up per day. I have been my happiest ever running my work life EV style. Oh....going the section 179 route is HUGE plus.
No cons here....know who you are, do your dd of research, be ready to adapt to the EV lifestyle, then pick the EV that has the best fit 4 you.
U got this😉
You should make videos bro sounds like you’re good at this. It’d be helpful for people wanting to start.
Thxx... I'll highly consider your comment, I am currently that guy in my circle answering questions on this topic & more. I appreciate you.
i agree Hertz and Uber is the only one making money i sometime charge 3 times a dayhere in miami it about 25 dollar to fill up
I ended up keeping the car for the next 3 weeks after filming this. To be honest i'll never do it again with an EV car. Basically all of my profits went to the car charging fee waiting for me upon returning the car. It was way too expensive for me especially since I wasn't able to drive up to 12 hours a day.
you have to be able to charge at home i have an electrical garage at home only gives me 7$ a day
@@noramonieit’s not even about 12 hrs a day. Where you live is too slow to do Uber.
Thank you for your sharing.
Thanks for listening
Elon said it takes just as long to go from 0-80% as 80-100%. On JRE. Used a parking lot analogy.
yeah it strangely always took about 30 min to charge
The key is EVgo & having a job that can be done remotely with no immediate turn around.
I manage & market a pastry chef full time but am ubering to fix my credit through the funds made.
Need to have your own cable and charge at home at night. Superchargers take your profits.
A mobile charger with multiple 110, 220 pigtail adapters is ideal.
When you rented the vehicle, did you have to get personal insurance added because I think when you’re off-line you’re not covered
Gas is not the same as electricity. Charging a Tesla at a supercharger should be done between the hours of 12 a.m. - 4 a.m. when KW are at the cheapest rates. Also you can charge for free at a destination charger.
when super charging is cheap, you must fully charge the battery to avoid charging again later in the day and at higher price.
She did the peak hour charges were the second charge after the battery finished
She received on average $20 tip for 20 rides. Ridiculously. cheap people there. Especially for such cute girl in such nice car. I hope this video brings you some csh to make up for those rides. Subscribed!
I appreciate you ! thanks for subscribing, commenting and watching !
Dont expect anyone to tip for a taxi ride.
You only save money on "fuel" if you charge from home. I have a Bolt EUV Electrify America $0.48 kWh. 4 mile per kilowatt hour on good day (not cold outside). When 87 octane is $2.80 gallon same cost to drive as vehicle getting 28 miles a gallon. Public Fast Charging is expensive.
Nice video
Worst thing about Model 3 for Uber is most people don't know how to get in or out. So they are grabbing all over the door and windows trying to figure it out = more work keeping it clean. And if they pull the manual door release it could damage the car.
Toyota Prius hybrid was by far one of the best cars in terms of milage for ridshare, with the exception it was only eligible for uberX somewhat limited in that regard. But I would argue that if you OWNED your Prius, had no car payment, you could do pretty well as a side gig. Tesla Ys are just a sort of simple beautiful though.
Your car is to small
You are correct. A 7 to 9 year old Prius is the best option for Uber. I paid $8k for my Prius. Oil changes are $60, tires are about $225, gas is about $27 a fill up. Maintenance has been minimal. Insurance is reasonable. I get about 44mpg (lot of hills where I live). I see the comment about it being too small. It it big enough I assure you. after i hit 280k miles i will sell the car for $3k and but another Prius for $11k. Having a car with payments for rideshare is cray cray.
@@KP-hi1om 100% I owned my Prius before even driving on the platform. No car payment also picked up some regular LAX private clients over the time driving. At the end of the day, for the time wasn't too small for my own system and style of driving preferences, and having no car payment is a huge difference.
@@FitnessConnect wow. I'm from L.A. I couldn't imagine driving Uber out there. I have to drive Uber for another three years (paying cash for our daughters college). My thoughts are to pay cash (no more than $11k) for a Prius. Run it to 250k - 260k miles and sell it for $3k - $4k and buy another Prius. I cannot imagine paying $30k+ for a car I am destroying.
@@KP-hi1om I drove from 2015 through Early 2020, and stopped in March 2020 after lockdowns. I haven't driven since. It was better years ago, not perfect but better. You have a plan, that makes a huge difference. Your price targets are pretty spot on. Just remember when buying used to keep track of UBERs limitations on how old or milage the car can be in order to remain on the platform. The great thing about the Prius these days is replacing the Hybrid battery no longer cost $3000+ grand. There are several companies now that do the service and new cells / battery pack in the area of only $1,600 - $1,700. and the car is good to go for years as long as you change the oil and other basic maint. 👍👍
You should try driving in downtown Dallas one weekend. Friday and Saturday. You can clean up
Doing Uber is 100% based on where you live. Vegas for example is so perfect.
It is pretty good on long island as well!
@@dynodyno6970do you prefer Long Island or Westchester County?
How is the Vegas market? I feel like it’d be the unlimited customer glitch. So many tourists, especially drunk… I imagine Uber drivers make a great living there?
Lithium batteries perform best when charged at 30-70%. It hurts the battery to be dead or to be fully charged. Thats probanly why it only lets you charge to 94.
How much does regular gasoline cost in Houston? This Driver seems to think that it’s cheaper that electricity
Did you need to charge it twice a day every day?
Yo, in a short snippit in your video, you were on the highway doing 85+mph of course for you its gonna drain hella quick lol with those driving habbits
I have no long comments in short is it depends your working timing what time you start what time you finish the very important which I have long experience about car service. It's your CITY. Which state you Leave. Thanks Good Luck.
The only way to make decent money while renting a car is puttin those miles on it workin long hours. I do it but I’m not saying all should…just if you rent then you gotta use to the full potential.
Yep, LONG hours. well up to 12 a day. uber has you take a mandatory break to rest after 12 hours.
@noramonie can you just switch to lyft or doordash or something at that point? Or is or somehow locked to uber only?
@@THE.Mr.Potato Not Lyft...I'm going probably rent one in a week or two..I'd like to do DoorDash, so I have to see. When I had a rental for Uber through Fair (similar rental deal) a few years ago, insurance only covered personal use and uber.
Hi , I have a Tesla model 3 and my payment a month is 850. I’m trying to test Uber. But never done it and feeling afraid of doing it. I live in Los Angeles. I like your video keep the good work up. 😀👍
Hey, 850 a month is such a Great deal! oooo Uber in LA should be some good money too! Thank you and good luck if you do decide to do it.
Dash camera & seat covers.
Hey remember this. With that $850 a month, you have to add insurance and maintenance, which is covered with the Uber rental. Also, with Tesla, you are in a higher bracket for rides. So that equals more $$$
@@Davetv6368 Depending on your market, keep in mind that UBER insurance has a $1k - $2k deductible.
You should purchase one and Uber lift therefore you get paid and you also own the car at the end of it with less maintenance than an ICE. Install a charger at home to be ready for the peak shift for pennies.
Dallas DFW is one of the best places to do Uber. I used to make (5 years ago) 1500 a week only 5 days. I did have friends that would make 2500-3000 a week especially from Thursdays afternoons to Sundays midnight. Fridays, Saturdays nights and Sundays afternoons the best time to do Uber. The best nights are during the last week of October and Christmas.
how much is the taxes and fee when you rent it from uber?
Honestly I just always wanted to try driving a tesla so I might try it one week just for fun, I know i'll make some profit lol
I switched over to drive whip this will be my first time getting a Tesla but I can drive for any platform with no minimum rides basically your leasing the car and they put your name on the insurance and everything so you have access to Tesla app so I’m excited because hertz is a hot mess never again
Just finish 1 week trying Tesla3 to compare to my 7 years driving ICE. Here key data...
1) $382 full rental.
2) $160 charging.
3) $900 gross revenue. $50 in green promo included.
4) 50 rides
5) 6 hrs @ superchargers ($20 each charge).
6) 28 hours online, 25 hrs active.
The 6 hrs wasted charging kills the whole deal. Take my 28 hrs online plus 6 hrs charging and 34 hrs to net $340 is a joke. No XL with model 3.
With my ICE I get $1,000 in 20 hrs with $200 in gas. XL and no payment make big difference.
Unfortunately you are spending more for charging at a supercharger, which means you’re paying a premium price to charge. Charging at home with the cars factory charger is how you save money. Which you get a full charge to skip the supercharger. Using a supercharger is just to help you along the way during a trip. Next time ask them for the charging cable that comes with the car.
Prices in London/kw it’s double. You guys are so lucky
So question, driving a Tesla for Uber what is it categorized as? Uber X? Or wjat
Yeah its categorized as uber x
I live in SA and wonder if it’s worth it here
You get a like for doing this video but honestly they ripped you off. You basically drove for Hertz n Uber. I drive a sporty Toyota Corolla and I make at least 150.00 a day driving for 7 hours.
I had to learn it the hard way unfortunately.
What i always say.... You need at home charging to make EVs make sense. The idea is to wake up every day with a full tank as it charges in your garage while you are at home or sleeping. If you don't have at home charging its a major inconvenience and not worth it in my opinion. Not to mention that charging at a super charger is 3 times more expensive than at home charging on average.
Oh, u local that's the easiest subscription for me🤘🏿
ppreciate that
You have to do it for at least a month and you have to be full time, you got to put the hours and drive the hell out of the car. You got the Y and that is like $700 per week for it to profitable you have to make $3000 per keek
Yep! 100 %.
I ended up keeping the car for another 3 weeks after this. I set a daily quota for myself of $120+ just so I could keep up and make sure I could make the payment($475) and at least $400 profit per week. This all while keeping track of my charing fees in a notebook.
Need to up to $150/day
150x7 = $1050 - $475 - $140 (charging) = $435/week assuming no other expenses. The good thing is that the $475 if fixed so if you can up your driving to $250-300/day most of the additional income will be profit!
How much hours
@@noramonie It would be nice to see; total hours worked, total pay, total spent charging, time spent charging, and total paid for the rental. I'm thinking of renting a Tesla or Bolt...Bolt is about $70/week cheaper, but not sure if I'd make up the difference in more tips/rides in the Tesla
Better buy a Tesla . 6, 7,8 even 12 to fully charge is good . V4 u fell it with 35 sh depending on which state. In my market I make about 3 :30 to 4 hours 110$

If you have an at home charger I think it could be a great source of income. I say go for it in that case.
Question do I have to have a credit card to rent a car are can u use a debit card
im not 100% sure but I used a debit
DEBIT, CREDIT CARD, EVEN A PREPAY WITH A MASTERCARD OR VISA LOGO WITH THE BALANCE TO COVER THE RENTAL FEE AND REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT.
Just wondering why you are renting? If your paying $447 weekly, that's roughly $1,788 a month. Seems like it would more economical to buy a Prius or Corolla. Your thoughts?
ALL YOU NEED TO RENT IS A CREDIT CARD OR EVEN A PREPAY. $200 FULLY REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT WHEN RETURNING THE VEHICLE. THE WEEKLY RENTAL FEE IN YOUR MARKET. YOU GET A FREE UBER RIDE TO AND I BELIEVE FROM THE RENTAL LOT IF YOU CHOOSE TO TAKE CONSECUTIVE DAYS OFF AND GIVE UP HOLD ON A PARTICULAR VEHICLE. INSURANCE IS INCLUDED. YOU ONLY HAVE TO ACCEPT A FEW RIDES EACH WEEK TO QUALIFY FOR THE DISCOUNTED RENTAL RATE PER THE AGREEMENT HERTZ/AVIS HAS WITH UBER OR LYFT. INSURANCE IS COVERED. WHEN THE CAR EVENTUALLY BREAKS DOWN, NEEDS ANY MAINTENANCE(ASIDE FROM BEING KEPT AS CLEAN AS YOU RECEIVED IT), THAT IS "NOT YOUR PROBLEM," MEANING THE VEHICLE ITSELF IS MORE OF AN ASSET(PUTTING MONEY INTO YOUR POCKET EACH DAY THAT YOU WORK) THAN A LIABILITY(TAKES MONEY OUT OF YOUR POCKET). TO BUY A VEHICLE, ONE NEEDS A DOWN PAYMENT(AROUND 10-20%), GOOD CREDIT(OR A CO-SIGNER), INSURANCE, MAINTAIN THE VEHICLE THAT IS TO BE USED AS IF YOU WERE TO COMMUTE 8 HOURS EACH DAY IN THE CITY. THAT WOULD MEANT A TUNE-UP EVERY MONTH, TIRES AT LEAST EVERY YEAR, AND THE CAR WOULD BE DRIVEN OVER 100,000 MILES EACH YEAR, HORRIFICALLY REDUCING IT'S LIFE SPAN. PLUS, IF YOU DRIVE FOR A LIVING YOU WILL AT LEAST BE IN A FENDER BENDER EACH YEAR. IF IT IS YOUR CAR IN THE SHOP FOR "X" AMOUNT OF TIME YOU CANNOT DRIVE IT. ALL YOU NEED IS A RELATIVELY CLEAN LICENSE, SOME EDUCATION ON HOW TO BEST MAKE RIDESHARE MONEY IN THE BEST MARKET NEAR YOU, AND LESS THAN A GRAND TO START. "RIDESHARE GUY" IS AN EXCELLENT CHANNEL ON UA-cam TO GET SOME ADVICE, AND THERE ARE MANY OTHERS. "MUCH LOVE, RESPECT AND GOD BLESS. THE DEMON WE FACE IS NOT IMMORTAL."
REALLY DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH YOU PREFER DRIVING, HAVING A VERY FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE(NEVER NEED TO "REQUST" TIME OFF, AND NOT TO SAY THERE ARE NOT GOING TO BE REGULAR ISSUES WITH UBER OR LYFT(CAN ONLY USE THE RENTAL FOR ONE OR THE OTHER, WITH UBER ALLOWING FOR FOOD DELIVERIES ETC.) BUT YOU DO NOT HAVE A BOSS COMING TO YOUR CUBICLE TO ASK WHEN THE REPORTS WILL BE DONE OR FLIPPING BURGERS WITH NO DOCUMENTED EDUCATION REQUIRED.
IF IT TURNS OUT THAT DRIVING(A LOT LOT LOT), HAVING A GOOD DEAL OF PATIENCE, DEALING WITH CUSTOMERS IN PERSON, THE ABILITY TO USE A CALCULATOR OR DO THE MATH IN YOUR HEAD/ON PAPER ETC., GETTING PAID DAILY, BEING YOUR OWN BOSS(NOT THE WORST WAY TO LEARN TO GET OUT OF THE RAT-RACE, ALWAYS DRIVING A RELATIVELY NEW AND FANCY VEHICLE, AND SO ON IS NOT YOUR THING AND YOU DO NOT KNOW IT YET, YOU ARE NOT STUCK WITH A 60+ MONTH CAR PAYMENT. JUST RETURN THE VEHICLE AT THE END OF THE WEEK AND EITHER KEEP UP WITH WHAT YOU WERE ALREADY DOING, OR LOOK FOR SOMETHING NEW.
IF YOU LIKE IT AND CAN MAKE ENOUGH MONEY(DIFFERENT MARKETS ALLOW FOR FOR FAR DIFFERENT RESULTS), CAN KEEP GETTING BETTER AND LEARNING HOW TO BEST USE YOUR TIME AND INVESTMENT, THEN GOOD FOR YOU. KEEP IT UP. I WILL SUGGEST THAT YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER HANDING OUT BUSINESS CARDS. IF YOU CAN ACCUMULATE REGULAR CUSTOMERS, YOUR $'S PER HOUR/MILE WILL INCREASE SIGNIFICANTLY.
If you lived in LA, our gas is almost $7 a gallon, you’d be thanking GOD for a Tesla and you’d make much more money.
If you do Uber in Dallas from Thursday to Sunday you will make more money than a whole week in cities like Houston. Ah the worst the weather the more money you make.
Looks like you're driving an LFP Model 3...if you don't have access to slow/free charging you should be charing to 90%+ off peak for the lowest rates.
Do you have to be 25 to rent a Tesla from Uber?
I think it depends on the state. In california, it's 25. They might let you do UberEats, but I don't know.

I work at Tesla you shouldn't charge it to 100% you shouldn't charge it over 80% the regenerative braking needs a place to put the energy that it produces if you filled up the battery your regenerative braking will not work
You may drive this time that you spend on charging. So, let's think we have 1 hour to charge every single day. But when you use regular car you can earn $25 for this hour. So thinking like this tesla is more expensive than any regular car.
Doesn’t make sense to rent a car to Uber. Yes, you may have a note but no where near the rental rates.

If you hit them early morning surges you wont have to drive so much. Uber is not a 9-5 job.
Hell to the no. Girl turn that Tesla in. You're not making enough money to pay $400 a week for a rental. If its taking you all day to make $100.00 Uber is not worth it!! Thats terrible pay and Uber should be called out for this BS.
