actually it's an interesting video - BUT : per favore, do *never* ever again put comments on the irrational and absurd panICdemic in one of your videos, it's absolutely *destroying* the atmo and good vibes ! IF you want to publish your personal opinion about the panICdemic, just put it in a *separate* video - besides that, I've been liking your vids quite a while now, they're of great help :)

Interesting video tutorial. I picked up the Behringer Poly D Clone of the MiniMoog a few weeks ago. Spent an entire day experimenting with all the knobs trying to figure out how the device worked. In the beginning no matter what I did, I got no sound from he device. Then I just got clicking sounds from each key. Thought the device was faulty. Then bang! The device started to produce many different wonderful sounds as I was discovering what each knob can do. This video has helped put into perspective all the things I was doing. Hopefully now I can learn to love this synth as much as you do. I msy need to watch this video a few more times to understand what you were talking about as my skill with this device improves.

Great demo on the basics of analog synthesis and the Mini Moog is an ultimate classic. I have a software version that I use with my set up, as well as an OB-X software synth. The cool thing about the software Mini Moog (Minimogue) is that it has an arpeggiator, gate sequencer and some other functions that the original model D doesn't have on board. Although nothing beats the real thing. Back in the eighties I had an actual Cat (by Octave) hardware unit that I used primarily to learn analog synthesis. I also have several videos performing with my set up. For me it's mostly a hobby but I enjoy playing as much as possible.

Great video. I have had a Behringer Model D for a few months now and am slowly, but surely, getting to grips with it thanks to video's like yours ;-) Perfect viewing for lockdown. Although I appreciate Bob Moog liked to pronounce it Mowg... cows go MOO ! Iv'e seen Rawhide on TV and cows go MOO ! in America too. Stay safe everybody.

In my mind, I count the noise generator as an oscillator, because it's another waveform you can select or mix in (depending on how the synth is designed, of course).

Great explanation of this great synth, also for people using cheap copies! Now I understand the knobs and possibilities even better!

I am currenlty rewatching you video and I have my Novation Bass station 2 to test all your tips in real time. I am very happy because I can reproduce 80% of what the Moog is doing :)
Oh and BTW I LOVED the Chips part!!!!

I have a Behringer Model D. It's not quite the same, but IMHO it works fine.
It can give you a great satisfaction with a very cheap price.

45:25 reminds me a bit of the second track of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds... "Horsell Common and the Heat Ray" and "The Artilleryman & The Fighting Machine" in particular - there's some fabulous synth stuff in that whole album actually - they used the Minimoog and an ARP Odyssey and near the end of production a Yamaha CS80 to redo some of the earlier parts

I love those War of the worlds synth sounds. Along with the Arp, Moog and a modified CS80 it uses a Freeman string Synthesizer and Ken Freeman custom synths that were called 'Thunderchilds' . I've never seen a 'Thunderchild' and have always been curious about them.

The square/rectangular/pulse waveform probably sounds "computeresque" because computers and video games have historically used it for music, especially in the early days, of course. Even today, because of history and culture, we still associate that sound with computers and electronics.
Those who owned a Commodore 64 back in the day, however, had music based on triangle and sawtooth waveforms, as well, since the built-in sound chip, the SID (Sound Interface Device), which was created by a musician, was designed like an analogue synthesizer (it even had a multimode filter with resonance, ADSR envelopes, ring modulation, hard sync, and sample playback capability). That's why this computer is so legendary for its music, as rough as it might sound today. Most every other computer for a long time only used square waves, and most had no envelopes or any other synth-like features.

The Noise generator wouldn’t quite qualify as an extra oscillator but I think it could be used as a modulation source, like on an Odyssey, etc. Maybe I’m wrong.
I have a Sequential Circuits Pro One and it’s honestly not very far off from the MiniMoog, minus the extra 6 keys, pink noise, 3rd oscillator (although it has a dedicated LFO, like most monos) and its filter isn’t nearly as nice. The overall sound is pretty similar.
